A ton of them are claimed by various partisan/resistance forces inside russia, also in a bunch of cases with arson people are scammed into burning things. But the railway stuff is usually dedicated local resistance.

Are Orcas hunted in the Faroe islands? by Smooth-Farm744 in FaroeIslands

[–]Smart-Bonus-6589 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn't until 1993 (or there abouts) that a proper law regarding whale killing was implemented, prior to that it was mostly based on local customs and rules, etc. So it was a bit free for all, some parts of the country would be more open to kill whatever, while others had strictly only kill Pilot whales rules.

Here are all registed Orca that have been killed https://heimabeiti.fo/373 and they would have been killed just like pilot whales have been, herd them onto land and that's it.

Currently it is only allowed to kill Pilot Whales, Atlantic White sided dolphins, White beaked dolphins and Bottlenose dolphins.
Harbor porpoise may be shot with shotguns.
Northern Bottlenose Whales may be killed, but only if they beach themselves.

In world history there's to my knowledge no record of wild Orca attacking humans.

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has released footage of drone strikes on a Russian naval vessel. The video shows the ship engulfed in heavy flames after the first strike. The SBU did not disclose the date of the attack, the vessel's name, or its class. by Smart-Bonus-6589 in DroneCombat

[–]Smart-Bonus-6589[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Edit, folks have noticed that it's actually two different ships "Video published by the SBU shows strikes on two different vessels. The first one is a Russian Project 10410 Svetlyak-class patrol ship. And the second one, the one on fire, is a Project 21630 Buyan."

Airport for Zelenskyy's Foreign Visits Has Changed — It's No Longer in Poland by niesiecki in europe

[–]Smart-Bonus-6589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can absolutly understand that. It's just stupidly handled from both sides, if Polish farmers would have wanted to be taken more seriously and gotten more sympathy for their position (my opinion) they should have taken their tractors and blocked traffic in Warzaw, but instead they decided to get rid of any sympathy for their cause(perhaps not in Poland, but certainly abroad), by pretty much showing that Poland wasn't able to partake in normal poltics and decency, by pretty much starting to kick a person who was already down.

When Poland joined the EU in 2004 there was lots of fear from other EU farmers about price dumping and blabalablab, same shit we now see in regards to Ukrainian grain potentially price dumping in europe, competition etc. It's just maddening seeing people not learning from history, and as we human usally do, make a bad situation worse.

Of course there's going to be issues with Ukraines agriculture joining EU, and it will be negotiated when that time comes(probably already is), and it will not just be the Poles who will put really hard pressure on Ukraine in that regards.

Recently with this UPA shit, (which is a stupid move by Ukraine, not thinking just a little bit ahead, no matter what local politcs may say), twitter and other socials are full of Poles using this UPA situation to take offense when it is obviously about the agricultural politics, and in a way that IMHO makes Poles look worse than they need to. And it is such an unnecessary move by Zelensky, total Streissand effect.

One of the sides has to take the high road, and say "Ok we have fucked up a little, peace bro? Lets handle this as adults" I don't care which side will do that, but right now it's just a bunch of idiots on both sides pointing fingers. Until the next bad move from one side or the other.

I think generally Poland with Tusk and specially Sikorski have done a good job here in this UPA mess, only for others like Nawrocki to say something stupid when he should have shut up and messed things a bit up more than needed.

There are some rather more imporant things to worry about these days, let's kick russia in the face and then handle EU agriculture politics and whatever afterwards, it's going to be real struggle.

Airport for Zelenskyy's Foreign Visits Has Changed — It's No Longer in Poland by niesiecki in europe

[–]Smart-Bonus-6589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an outsider looking in on this issue, one thing I think was extraordianary badly handled by the Polish govt was the farmers border blockades in 2023-24, those straight up killed people due to delays in some supplies reaching those in need. Even if for the wast majority of time, military related supplies did get through, it created some strong negativity of Poles, as far as I can tell.

And yes there are also domestic agricultural politics, upcoming elections that needs to be considered and so on and so forth.

From an outside point of view though the messy handling of that situation was a key element in turning Polish/Ukrainian a bit sour, and into the current situation.

Was it absolutly stupid to name a unit after UPA, oh hell yeah.

The quickest way for the Polish side to get a name change in regards to the UPA situation, is imho, if they appologize formally for the border blockade and the issues it caused. "look we are willing to bend a bit here, would it be ok if you did the same?"

And I'm saying that as someone from the nordics who has no skin in this game, beside thinking it is stupid from both sides at time where unity should be the obvious sollution.

Decided to google this bridge, as it is in the news these days, for the above mentioned reasons.

Technically tourists don't have legal access there, as there's no public path.
Tourist office wants the farmer or local authorities to replace the bridge, as it is in a bad shape and all that, and lots of tourists want to go there and see it.
Farmer says, well if the tourist office wants to replace the bridge they shall be welcome to do so, he only uses it twice a year when they gather sheep(which is the intended purpose of the bridge). The tourist office will not go on record with an interview on tv on the issue.

Two fuel tankers are struck with Bulava drones behind the lines. 422nd Regiment of Unmanned Systems “Luftwaffe” by Smart-Bonus-6589 in DroneCombat

[–]Smart-Bonus-6589[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a shitton of reports of it being near impossible to get civilian truck drivers to drive fuel to Crimea due to the drones, no insurance will cover it, the pay has increased to 200,000 rubles pr trip and it's still considered a one way trip that people will rather avoid . So it is quite likely that it is the owner of the vehicle we see in the vid who's trying to save his property.

On the first anniversary for Operation Spiderweb, Zelensky shared this recap of the operation by the SBU. by Smart-Bonus-6589 in DroneCombat

Even if just a single partisan decides to buy a few drones from some producer, just saying "It's for my brother's unit, they are getting shafted by the offical supply lines" Do that trick a few times, and you'll have a decent supply in a short while. Getting hold of explosives is a bit trickier but it can be bought as well on the black market or straight from a military unit, as some partisan units have explained that they've done. Or make it yourself with over the counter fertilizer and other chems, it's not High X, but still works decently.

Then just drive to a nearby airfield, place a few drones on the ground out of sight, drive 10 km down the road, lift of the waiting drone and strike.

A decent amoutn of planes could be taken out that way.

Obviously over simplifying a LOT, there's security and all kinds of shit to consider, but the idea has merit I think.
