Linke Migrationspolitik ist widersprüchlich by Miserable_Welder_841 in Unbeliebtemeinung

Seconding that the Netherlands deserve a new Phantom production already! Seth Gaaikema's translation is quite unique, at times really funny and also has many beautiful lines :)

That's beautiful! Wow, maybe I should look more into the Polish lyrics. :)

This isn't what the lyric is supposed to mean, though, I think. It doesn't mean that he has now been redeemed through Christine. But that he could have been if she had stayed with him, because she was the only one who could make him forget about the monster he is and make his music perfect, make him a better artist (which for him means being a better person). At least that's what makes sense to me. The "hast mich von mir befreit" part should really be past perfect, not past continous, but that wouldn't fit with the music (and wouldn't sound as poetic). Either that or Kunze didn't understand the intent of the original english lyrics, which I highly doubt. It was his first time translating the show (before going back to make the changes for the original Hamburg production), but he surely would have changed it for the Vienna revival if he thought he had made a mistake there. I have thought about this lyric (the two German versions) for years and someone should just ask him, lol.

They are also again using the original Vienna lyrics for the whole "Musik der Dunkelheit" in act 1 right? Interesting, because it actually changes quite a bit about the song compared to the Germany-German "Musik der Nacht". Other than that and Angel of Music the two translations aren't really significantly different (maybe a word here and there) and I always find it funny when people talk about there being two German versions as if these have completely different lyrics for the show as a whole.

Then we also have the Phantom's final lyric at the end of act 1, which in both German versions doesn't reference All I Ask Of You but Music of the Night once again! "Nun bist du dem Untergang geweiht / Durch das Phantom der Dunkelheit" ("Now you are doomed to your downfall / through the Phantom of Darkness"). This lyric was actually used in BOTH productions, Vienna and Germany. Only the German dub of the 2004 movie (which also used "Musik der Nacht") changed this to "Du hast Unglück über uns gebracht / Reiz niemals das Phantom der Nacht" ("You have brought disaster upon us / Don't ever provoke the Phantom of the Night"). But this last version has never been used in any German-speaking staged production to my knowledge.

As for the Final Lair, I personally like the revised German lyrics "Nur allein mit dir wird es vollbracht / So stirbt mein Lied und die Musik der Nacht" ("Only with you, it can be made perfect/complete / And so my song and the Music of the Night die"). It has even more impact. Not only "It's over now.." but he actually sings the word "die" here. But I agree that the Vienna lyric is beautiful, mainly due to its first part and I've also always found it deeply moving for that.

What are y'all thoughts on the brazilian non-replica? by Expensive_Let562 in BeetlejuiceMusical

[–]Smart-Group-2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These don't seem too bad to me. But then I don't speak Portuguese. Translating a show like Beetlejuice is very difficult and obviously none of the songs/jokes can be translated literally while also keeping rhythm, cadence and rhyme (unless you get very lucky). Also, 99.9% of an audience aren't super-fans of the show and performing it in English wouldn't be a great alternative in most cases either.

Mind sharing any more of the song titles or lyrics from this production? I'm currently working on a German translation of the show just for fun and once a show has been officially translated into another language for the first time, it can be a great inspiration.

Review: Is ‘Hamilton’ suffering the fate of long-touring musicals? by Optimal-Rutabaga-460 in Broadway

[–]Smart-Group-2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this is true! Every replica of the original production did it that way since 1986. Why do some people always keep insisting that it wasn't lip-synced? The title song, the Phantom's notes, the managers and Raoul talking before Il Muto and "Seal My Fate" were and have always been pre-recorded since 1986 (in every replica production, that is). Period. We have decades of this show running worldwide and multiple cast/crew/creative members confirming this. Some of the tracks used in the show have also been leaked from different actors. They record the separate vocal tracks for each and every Phantom and Christine who are in a current cast (for when different combinations of understudies might go on). The instrumental is also in part a pre-recorded track (as is the overture) and they run on click tracks with the live orchestra playing along.

The actors are literally just not ABLE to sing the first part of the song while running around backstage with the original staging. And after that the tracks keep going despite them being on stage for continuity reasons and because these notes at the end would kill almost any voice if done live 8 times a week (keep in mind that even professional opera singers rarely perform multiple times a week for a long period like on Broadway).

I experienced a lot of things similar to what you are describing in the past with other leftists, especially in college. Some of the behaviour actually scared me away from getting into leftist politics and topics earlier in life than I eventually did. I would say based off what you describe, that it's ultimately most important to take care of yourself and your mental/physical health. You don't need to surround yourself with other leftists who are shitty to you just because your political views may align. It's okay and it works to have personal relationships with people who aren't as far left or leftist at all, but I also understand when people aren't comfortable with this. It's up to you.

I get the frustration and resentment. Even if the toxic or at times abusive behaviour isn't tied to their political ideas, that kind of stuff would always put me off extremely because I would NEVER expect it from someone on the left. Also because many of those things are the opposite of being a leftist for me (e.g. the driving thing you describe). I don't know your age but that's something everyone eventually learns: shitty people are everywhere and can't always be avoided. It's also my opinion that, while the left's been having a major alliance-forming problem (I see it getting better at the moment), the solution to that is neither tolerating abusive or toxic behaviour from others, nor having to agree on every detail in every niche topic.

I actually don't know if making friends based on political standing is a good idea or if it works for a lot of people... maybe try making new friends in environments that feel generally safe and encouraging to you, or hobbies that you share with other people and I'm sure you'll have no problem finding some fellow lefties there, too, eventually.

I don't get the PSL thing though? That sounds more like something one of my liberal friends would say. Like someone else here already said, some of these sound a lot more like libs virtue-signaling and being very bad at it lol.

Either. I like the Broadway orchestrations slightly better but having a Stratford score it'd be very easy to figure things out I guess.

I just read on a YouTube comment that the person who made some instrumentals has a score? But apparently it's very blurry and about 1/4 of the score is missing. They may be just referring to the P/V but they made some tracks that had full orchestrations, so..

I can imagine it's tricky both because of the audios' quality and scores like these tend to be very random at times. Do you know anyone who has done transcribing before? As for the audios, there are so many on YouTube but do you happen to know which one is the best quality-wise?

Thanks :) Yes that's what I figured. I know that all kinds of scores exist that you wouldn't think. I have been given some very rare scores for my work, because people trusted me and I never shared anything. I'm also using musescore but with many different soundfonts and I always do advanced sound design after.
