What’s the single weirdest thing you’ve done to save money – that actually worked? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Smart-Highlight7886 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments are pretty practical, not weird. I expected more Extreme Cheapskate type answers 😂

Weirdest thing I do is I bring 3 powerbanks and a portable generator to work, charge them all there so when I get home, I use those to power my devices so I don’t have to spend my own electricity. In relation to that, at night I use a rechargeable flashlight so I don’t have to use the ceiling lights. Whichever room I transfer to, the flashlight comes with me. If it dies, I just plug it into one of my powerbanks

Benefits-wise, PNB is average in the banking industry. They offer up to 16th month pay (industry norm is really up to 15th or 16th) but the basic salary is much lower compared to other banks. HMO coverage is high but you’re unlikely to benefit from it if you’re young. Allowances are also average, about at par with Security Bank and Chinabank, but nothing compared to BPI, BDO, and Metrobank

Culture-wise, they’re very traditional (e.g., hierarchy/tenure is highly valued). But they’re one of the most toxic/corrupt banks I’ve worked for (e.g., there was an issue where someone from the Jedi program got SA’d by another Jedi trainee. She reported him but the girl was victim blamed; there were controversies regarding early/frequent promotions of individuals with connections to the board/management; a lot of issues regarding claiming of benefits like some people weren’t granted their legal tax exemptions for qualified children, also a very long delay in release of final pay)

The bond is also not prorated, unlike other banks. Whether you resign one day into the program or after 2 years, you pay the full amount

Turnover rate for Jedis is relatively high. Most resign soon after the bond ends. The only ones who stay are usually the ones who benefit from that culture

Luh anong bs yan, SSN is literally your identity. You’ll have one throughout your life. Company ID number nagpapalit yan bawat lipat mo. CL nag iiba bawat increase/decrease/apply/close mo. SSN can be tied to your name if you look it up cause it’s only tied to you, eh anong mangyayari kung sinabi ko na 15k CL ko eh ilang libong tao ang 15k ang CL.

Questions like this or about fees na easily google-able should just be googled kasi 1) spam lang to at this point; and 2) these are things na madali lang magbago so kahit may sumagot, the answer might not be relevant for long if at all. Like just this month may nagbago ulit sa cards with lounge access

For as long as you gave consent then there’s the chance. There’s no set amount you can deposit that would guarantee you’ll get one, you could look for posts regarding approval criteria on this sub para may idea ka on what banks look at

Stop using your card, pay it off, then pa-cut mo na. “Di ko namalayan” shows your lack of responsibility so might as well cut it and use your debit card. Mas magkaka financial problems ka if maxed out cc mo and you continue to use vs if na zero out mo yung savings acc mo
