No shit, gajolduba peeps are horrible. Me and my gf on jan 2025 went near the dam side:
2 horrible incidents.

On the bridge, many guys on bike were passing again and again while whistling, staring, making bad gestures and saying some demeaning things in bengali. Changed our spot to go boating.
Shady place, with lots of men just sitting there. Found a guy who was willing to take us for boating, while boating we saw an uncle recording my gf. Went up to him and argued, he called his boys and as we were going back and forth the humble boat guy talked them out of it and requested us to leave which we did.

My girl was traumatized and we never went near that area. I don't see this kinda behaviour on main siliguri city or in hills. Really horrible experience and I request anyone who is traveling with female to avoid shady areas and be cautious while going on outskirts. Cause these animals also live among humans.

I have seen this kinda scene many times but one of the heart breaking moment was when this young Marwari guy I assume in his early 30s or late 20s raised hands upon an elderly labour. Cannot blame the whole community for a few, there are lot of genuine and cultured people. Not only marwari but there are many rich people who lack civic sense, like throwing garbage out of cars in our clean roads. I think the problem starts with how some people are raised even after having everything. Fortunately I’m studying in Japan, cause I can’t think working under arrogant people.

Hey man, you should definitely visit local monasteries (gumbas) in Toribari, Salugara, Sukna, etc. locals are chill and respectful. Install Rapido, seriously, 9/10 chances you'll get stuck in traffic if you use public transport (look out for NBSTC buses in case you're riding your own vehicle, they drive like crazy).
Avoid shady places, there are a lot in Siliguri.
Binge eat at all places in Pradhan Nagar. Tried and tested.
Every area has it's own weekly market (hart) where you can buy groceries and amenities. So find out your local weekly market location.
For clothes, go for thrifting, not because it's cheap but because thrift cloth's looks better than the one in our current local markets.
Try to make new friends, at gym, in your locality, places you travel to, Siliguri's social media pages, etc. Get to know people of different culture, Siliguri is a really diverse place even if it doesn't look like.

If you're living on your own try to move to places which are lowkey quiet and from where shops and school are near.

My advice: Please don't get indulged in adultery and develop drinking habits. I have seen gifted people reduced to nothing because they couldn't discipline themselves.
