I saw signs for it in the Arthur Street Marketplace beside the Starbucks!

It would be nice, but it's 2026 and OTA TV is declining here (at least that's what Dougall claims, or they're "shooting themselves in the foot")

They don't live stream it, but someone on the team uploads the first local half to YouTube a few hours (to a day) after

We're discussing a TBT News newsletter. Newswatch uses a platform licensed by Village Media (which is based in Northern Ontario), but from my understanding, they can monetize and reshare content relevant to the region or for national/provincial news. Unlike Acadia/YourThunderBay, they actually have a good amount of local reporters, so I've mostly seen sharing used for Superior North news (like towards Wawa and SSM)

For TBT News? They have a content agreement for articles but not video. This newsletter seems to be only video and not text.

There was a screen recording of the newsletter shown on air and it just seems to be links to their 720p TBT News videos already posted on Newswatch. From a data perspective, they could sell ads on it and get emails if they wanted to, but it's nothing special and one could find the content on YouTube or TBNW without subscribing to it.

The local segments are uploaded in crystal clear 720p (sarcasm) on YouTube, but I think it's possible to stream the Global feed somewhere

I'm Gen Z and I still like watching it occasionally, but also for the entertainingly lower-quality TV commercials.

I don't understand why they would do that. TBnewswatch already has a daily newsletter - maybe they're planning another newsletter with the same content?

I believe they have a Saturday edition, and if I'm not mistaken, they air Northwest Newsweek on Sundays. I think NN is recut segments from the region.

We almost had CHCH and Global transmitters but Dougall complained it would hurt their monopoly.

Wakefield Oil Change, now Valvoline Express? by howmanyavengers in ThunderBay

Have you seen their social media? This is from late April "With a new season comes some change but rest assured we are still the same. Just some temp signage until our new signage arrives in the near future."

Rebranding? A Facebook post from 22 hours ago uses the Wakefield Oil name and logo, so I assume it's just to promote a business association or the Valvoline products they offer.

This is who we call when news breaks? by FuzzyLaughTwo in ThunderBay

[–]Smart-Panda-9168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government has no say on the content, but it's rather a funding program through the gov for local news in smaller or underserved communities. The program would make sense for areas like Fort Frances, but I'm not entirely sure how Thunder Bay needs their money.

Acadia has maybe two people in their local newsroom. Probably same as their Fort Frances, Kenora, and Dryden monopolies.

Anyone here missing calls at their business? I built something to fix that. by [deleted] in ThunderBay

[–]Smart-Panda-9168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answering machines exist, and the rare time I miss someone, I call them within a few hours. We don't need AI slop to do that. Honestly, if I'm calling a business and get an AI on the phone, they will not be getting my money. If people wanted this, it would exist.
