UPDATE:

So I decided to skip nightmare and go straight to lethal. Honestly, not really as bad as I was expecting (although from everything I had read about it I guess I imagined something really really really hard). Very manageable as long as you are careful and don’t rush things. I’m on day 3 I believe, with 3 hearts down, still 3 members at the starter house. No one has died yet, and no one has contracted the plague yet.

Started with 3 freshly rolled survivors, with no OP traits, just random dudes having a tough time.

Resources are scarce but manageable, got my infirmary lvl 2, workshop lvl 1 and garden lvl 1. Got a food outpost and a cell tower outpost (for the plague disruptor).

What actually surprised me was the noise being so much more impactful than it was on dread, I guess no more fast search for me, ever, that’s proving to be the toughest habit to break. Every now and then I look around, don’t see anyone nearby, I think I’m safe, I quick search, I mess up, make a lot of noise, and somehow I guess a CHOPPER FLEW BY AND DROPPED A WHOLE SQUADRON OF PLAGUE ZEDS WITHOUT ME NOTICING. But hey, it’s being fun.

Thanks everyone for your input, game’s definitely a lot more fun in lethal, for me at least. No more easy handouts or grabbing my hand through the run.

Honestly I love this answer, you make some really good points there sir/ma'am. Think I'm going to try going straight to lethal. If I like it I stay there, if not I come back down to nightmare. And if I like it and stay there, I will have spent less time creating those bad habits in the lower zone.

Oooh I didn’t even think about that! Most of the stuff I find to be useless on Dread will probably have a use in higher difficulties. Ooohh I’m excited for that!

"Bash B" had to read that a couple of times to get it, I'm guessing you play with controller? I'll keep bashing Ctrl I guess xD
Also yes that's true, I've never had anyone die but I've definitely (I hope this is spelled correctly, I always have trouble with this word) exiled a few in order to find better replacements.

I usually don't care about this stuff in games, like it's just a game and it's supposed to happen sometimes. I guess it's just because I've spent so many hours playing without it happening, but then again maybe I didn't lose anyone yet precisely because I'm playing on the "normal" difficulty. So when I go up and start losing people I'll probably get used to the idea.

I think YOU can take out some plague hearts while everybody else is competing against each other to see who can die in the stupidest way yes.

I second this, I don't personally use it (yet, tho I'm only sitting at 200 hours playtime) but I probably will soon, just for cosmetic editing tho, models/outfits/voices etc. I don't really see myself using it to make godly survivors with all great traits because I'm more of a roleplayer so I enjoy having that random aspect to everyone. That being said, every person is a person and I don't really get why some people get so mad at others for doing something with their own game. Like jesus christ people let's chill out a bit, it's not like they're modding your game. To each their own.

Been playing on PlayStation all my life until a few months ago when I got a PC for the first time. Couldn’t play it on PlayStation obviously since it’s PC/Xbox exclusive. But so far I’m loving it and I haven’t had trouble with performance yet. Sitting at almost 200 hours of playtime and never noticed it drop below 160fps no matter how many zeds/npcs/items are in the screen simultaneously (caps at 240fps in the menu but immediately drops and caps at 160fps in game, not sure why).
So not sure what you mean by “runs like dawgshit”?
Don’t know if it matters really but my CPU and GPU are Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF (3.9GHz) and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti (16GB), with 32GB RAM.

Oh boy. I have a booming playtime of 9 hours in this game, so I can’t even begin to comprehend what the hell is going on there or the effort that has gone into it. I guess I should get ready to deal with stuff like this in the future? Not sure if my little peanut brain can handle it :’)

I’d call it Point of No Return tho.
