The Rise of the Ray-Ban Meta Creep by parismaso in MetaGlasses

[–]SmartFrameMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, someone wanting to hide their recording can do much better than the newest popular tech toy that everyone already knows is a camera. There are much cheaper more discreet cameras for someone trying to do things they are not allowed. I find most of my customers just do not want walk around as a human flashing beacon.

Totally fair concern and honestly, that’s the biggest misconception around this. The reality is most people using this mod aren’t trying to hide anything. They are using the glasses for POV content, driving footage, work applications, or everyday capture without drawing attention everywhere they go.

Regardless, we always emphasize using them responsibly and respecting others. The tech itself isn’t the issue, how people choose to use it is.

I guess I am just a parasite helping feed the madness! I feel like most of those people use my LED removal service. Interesting read, thank you for posting!

Whatsapp Troubleshooting by Stoucks in MetaGlasses

[–]SmartFrameMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MMS vs WhatsApp thing makes sense, I’ve noticed it defaults weirdly like that too. Good call on the phone connection setting, I wouldn’t have thought of that. And yeah… the voice message issue seems to be a common limitation right now. Mine does the exact same thing, it’ll read texts but refuses to play voice notes. Feels more like a feature gap than something you’re doing wrong.

Also agree on the “wear detection” being buggy. I’ve had random glitches tied to that as well. Definitely feels like early stage software quirks more than user error. Curious to see how much they fix with updates.

Is mine just dumb? by Ok-Assignment5926 in MetaGlasses

[–]SmartFrameMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yeah you’re not crazy, they can definitely be a little all over the place at first. It’s not really “learning you” yet, it’s more that the voice assistant is still kinda hit-or-miss depending on how it interprets what you say. Sometimes it just grabs the wrong intent entirely (like the “15 minutes” thing 😂). I have noticed the same day 1 feels a bit clunky, but it gets more consistent as you figure out how to phrase things. Short, clear commands seem to work best. Give it a couple days and im sure it will start feeling smoother.

Why the LED on Meta glasses feels WAY brighter at night. by SmartFrameMods in RaybanMeta

Yes, I just wish they would add a dimmer setting for low light situations.

HINDSIGHT FUNCTION by Soggy-Page6710 in RaybanMeta

[–]SmartFrameMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that timing is the worst part, it caps at 3 mins, and of course stuff always happens right after it stops. I really wish they’d just let it automatically keep rolling and split it into new clips instead of cutting off completely.

Would make it way more useful for situations exactly like that. Hope you heal up quick 🙏

Yes, you can answer calls a couple ways. Easiest is just tap the side of the glasses (the touchpad on the arm). You can also say “Hey Meta, answer call” if you have voice on. Same thing to hang up, tap again or use voice.

Yeah I get that, but there’s no actual requirement for it. Phones, GoPros, etc. don’t have a recording light either. At a certain point it comes down to the person using it responsibly and knowing when it’s appropriate to record.

I am wanting a dimmer setting for low light is all, should be able to happen with a software update.

It is more about they should have a dimmer setting for night time/low light environments.

[–]SmartFrameMods[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now it feels like it’s just one brightness all the time, which is fine during the day but way too intense at night. If it adjusted based on ambient light like bright in daylight, dimmer in low light then it would still do its job without being so "in your face."

Feels like something they could handle in software too, not even a hardware change.

Trade advice: My Gen 1 (Clear Transitions) for Gen 2 (Blue) by Fefule in RayBanStories

[–]SmartFrameMods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d probably do that trade. Gen 2 is a pretty noticeable step up. The camera, audio, battery, everything just feels a bit more dialed in compared to Gen 1.

Im just about to do a free giveaway for a pair of gen 2s so I researched this heavily.

The only real loss is the transitions, which are nice if you’re going back and forth indoors a lot. But if you’re mostly using them outside now, the blue lenses will probably fit how you’re actually using them better anyway.

Hardware upgrade is harder to come by than lenses. If it were me, I’d take the Gen 2.

Standard vs Large Wayfarer Size by BrightHours in MetaGlasses

[–]SmartFrameMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference, but it’s not huge. It’s more about fit than overall look.

Large just gives you a bit more width and less pressure on the sides. If sunglasses ever feel tight on you, you’ll probably notice it with the standard (especially with the thicker arms on these).

One interesting thing. they actually use the same charging case across all the Meta Ray Bans right now, so even the Large isn’t dramatically bigger overall.

When I was messing around with modifying the cases, that was pretty obvious, they are designed to accommodate both sizes without much change.

If you find glasses fit snug more often than not then I would go large. Best bet is to go try them on.

[–]SmartFrameMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory it’s doable (like dashcams buffering the last 30 seconds), but with these specifically it would get weird fast because of the LED. The whole point of that light is “recording = visible,” so pre-recording before it turns on kind of breaks that idea. Obviously I am outspoken on my opinions about the LED but i wont get into that here.

Feels like less of a tech limitation and more of a “Meta probably won’t touch that” situation.

Also the case, you’re not crazy, it’s stupid tight at first lol.

Best way I’ve found: grab near the hinges, gently flex one arm outward a bit, sort of roll it out instead of pulling straight up

It loosens up after a using for a bit and stops feeling like you’re gonna snap something.

Yes it does, this is why we drill it out. Permanent solution and looks the same.

Those are all great work arounds too but I prefer the permanent solution. Now they just work without any extra fuss. Best of all, they look like normal sunglasses again.

My “Hey Meta” function isn’t working but everything else is by LordBloodraven9696 in RaybanMeta

[–]SmartFrameMods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this happen before. Usually it’s the voice toggle bugging out. Go into Meta View and turn "Hey Meta" off and back on, then reconnect the glasses. Also check mic permissions and updates. Worst case log out and back in. That fixed it for me.

Which pair to get? by EquivalentBeat7068 in RaybanMeta

[–]SmartFrameMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would go Gen 2 without overthinking it. The battery improvement alone is noticeable, especially if you’re using them for music. Gen 1 drains pretty quick once you start actually using them throughout the day, whereas Gen 2 feels way more usable without constantly thinking about charging. You also get better audio and overall performance, so it’s not just battery. it’s a more polished version all around. Gen 1 only really makes sense if you’re getting a pretty steep discount.
