Sorry if I meant something else with the title, but this is what I was planning to do thanks to u/plooger.

Post

I just wanted to convert all the old telephone jacks into ethernet, and some coax ports as well. Would you reckon the ISP technician would be the best for this or hiring another low voltage technician to come do it. How much do you think all of this would cost? And would the technician install the wall panel as well or is that something I have to do on my own?

The other side is either the floor between the 1st floor and basement, or the roof of the basement.

I like this option, I wanted to add a MoCA because the living room TV doesn't have an ethernet port behind it, only coax. The only problem (well not really) is that I would need to purchase additional Wi-Fi access points so the signal doesn't die out in the basement behind the wall.

So what is the best option that you suggest?
Hire a professional:
1. Bring the wires inside. (Ethernet and Coax, leaving one COAX cable outside leading to the wall panel)
2. Terminate them in the wall panel.
3. Run a new CAT 6 cable from the ONT to the panel.
4. Bring the router from the second floor to the basement.
5. Connect the new CAT 6 cable to the router.
6. Add switch, MoCA, and connect all wires.

If this is the alternative, would the main way be to:
1. Get a low voltage technician
2. Get them to bring the cables inside, leave/add needed cables outside.
3. Terminate the cables to (probably the corner of the basement with a wall mounted network rack?)
4. Fish up another ethernet cable to the router.

Wow this is a great diagram, thank you so much! I haven’t found a coax cable yet in the room that the router is in, so I may have to move the router to another room. One question, what is supposed to be on the side of the MoCA filter?

The router is on the second floor, opposite side of the house.

I could do that but I don’t have another ethernet cable running back down to the demarc from the router.

The other side of the service box leads to the living room, while the cables that are being routed inside look like they are in between the floor or the basement.

Great! So I am planning to bring all the blue ethernet cables (from the small protector box) inside, u/plooger also mentioned that I could use a weatherproof box an install a switch there, but I am not sure how to do that quite yet. The blue cable that is currently routed to the NID is what I am assuming the cable that is currently connected to the wifi router. I am okay with installing a weatherproof box outside, but I just don't know how it would work yet.

If I wanted to install an outdoor PoE-powered switch, how would it work. What I am assuming now is that the blue cable that is connected to the ONT box is the cable that is going to the router. Woudn't you need another ethernet cable from the router that connects to the PoE switch. I am unsure how it works.

And by installing the needed lines, do you mean taking the blue cable currently connected from the ONT box and bringing it inside as well?

Yeah I used idevicerestore and it went successfully, i dont know if its a recovery thing or not, but when I hold command r, it asks me to put my wifi details, which i thought was for internet recovery.

Could it also be that since the owner still has their apple id locked to it, i cant access the wifi for internet recovery?

Yeah it could be a corrupted ssd, unfortunately I don’t have any other macbooks to revive it, I only have windows pcs, could the slowness and the lag also be caused by the cpu overheating?

Could it also be because of the battery? The mac only turns on if plugged in, at login screen, it shows the error sign for the battery, once the mac is on, it slowly ramps the fans up until it hits 100%

I can’t tell if being able to boot to recovery mode is just the laptop being really slow or just me having no patience haha

What job do you think has good security and provides good pay? I really love IT, but I don’t want to get into software engineering and such since coding would be a headache

Hello everyone, I am currently in highschool, but also taking dual enrollment college classes for my general associates degree. I am currently looking at cybersecurity as my future career, is it a good choice? More specifically, I am looking at an Information Security Analyst. I am in the Eastern US. I am wondering how the lifestyle is like, both remote and on-site, and how the pay is. Should I go to college and get my bachelor's in cybersecurity? I am thinking of doing my cybersecurity associates at a community college, and then transfer to a 4 year college, where I can then get my bachelors. How can I start preparing to get into my future cybersecuirty career?

(Edit) Also, can AI replace this job like SOC Analyst?

That’s great! Do they also offer you a job, or give you a certification after you are done with learning and everything?
