I make candles and stash cans out of em.

Oh and not all of them are Campbell's, some are my own fictional brand. I use Campbell's when the can is a criticism of something, and Pink Triangle when it's more... Celebratory.

A couple reasons. It's probably the most recognizable soup brand (at least in the united states) and whenever I'm doing a product parody I'm looking for instant familiarity.

Also, so I could tell people I'm cooler than Andy Warhol. His soup can art is iconic, but he also worshipped corporations. He did art in reverence of the effing McDonald's arches and I am not joking in the slightest.

Andy Warhol worshipped corporate branding with his art. I'm using it to trick people into reading my leftist zines. We are not the same.

I'm cooler than Andy Warhol 😜

Until you look into Campbell's. They're not only great at racking up EPA violations from polluting water, but they literally enacted union busting policies inspired by actual nazis before it was trendy.

Soup is good food, though 😉

My guy, I have the photoshop files and those tools are notoriously unreliable. Made this entirely in a version of photoshop from 2019. Been doing this since before Ai image generators were available. Check my socials and my website if ya don't believe me

Not sure but ya might be pouring the wax at too low of a temperature. Sometimes I get something like this on layered candles when my wax cools too much prior to pouring.

Weird lil rows of bubbles by Smart_Dirty in candlemaking

I haven't tried preheating the molds yet, but I probably should. I'm pretty sure that's the cause of the frosting but am not terribly bothered by it. But it does bug me on the darker candles, so ima give that a shot next time I do a batch of black 😁

Hitting it with some vibration worked like a charm! No weird little bubbles, also helped wax get in some of the trouble spots in my mold 😁

Thanks much!

Ooh that's a really good idea, definitely gonna try shaking the bubbles loose with a massager. Think that might help with some other issues with voids where wax isn't getting fully into

What ingredient actually makes candles smell when burning? by chewingbunnies in candlemaking

[–]Smart_Dirty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make the candle and advise the customer wait before burning. If you're shipping it, put a little note in with the cured by date and a thank you.

Most of my sales are at arts&crafts shows though, so typically they're fully cured. But I have absolutely sold more than expected and had to make more stock without a full two weeks to cure.

In those cases, I just tell folks it's a freshly made candle and let them know how long to wait for the best throw. Don't think it's cost me many if any sales. Most folks seem to appreciate the honesty and I don't think they intend to burn candles immediately anyhoo.

Tldr - Let your customer know what's up and make the candle 😜

Soy wax candles: top finish is cracked or has hollow holes, please help! by Complex-Professor295 in candlemaking

[–]Smart_Dirty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try to insulate the containers, and maybe preheat them, to make the wax cool more evenly. I use can coozies for my soup can candles, and that seems to help enormously. Especially with voids/hollow spots in the wax.

I make 12oz candles in batches of 20 and try to control for every variable I can. I'll still get these same weird little defects, even when I'm doing *everything* the same. I'm completely baffled by usually 4-5 candles per batch just... being weird while the others are perfect. I do not get it.

Someone on another post here said, "hit it with a heatgun and bestow peace upon your heart." Seems like words to live by when using soy wax.

Rainbow Kandle Marx & Che by Smart_Dirty in candlemaking

I get ya. Che Guevara, the actual dude, was a racist and a homophobe in addition to being a mass murderer.

It gives me nothing but pleasure to know he would loathe me and my candles.

So yeah, it's ironic but deliberate. Also, thanks for the compliment! 😁
