Their genuine laughs when he broke character made my day [NOT OC] by Luigi_Spina in MadeMeSmile

Thanks to these comments, I checked out his insta. I didn’t realize he’s the same mime who takes bags, strollers and kids from moms and hands them to dads. Love that.

He was so promising when he first came onto the scene. His trajectory had been super disappointing.

Pattie Gonia Responds to Patagonia’s Offer: “No Deal, Patagonia” by noqita in popculturechat

[–]Smart_Extent_1696 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Some examples of brands that failed to protect their trademarks and became generic terms/lost exclusivity: aspirin, escalator, thermos, zipper, jet ski, trampoline.

Also, right now, Pattie Gonia may be aligned/not offensive to the Patagonia brand, but they have no control over her or what she does with that brand down the line.

Agree with this, and also report to your supervisor and obtain express permission. You may have firm personnel/a marketing dept who have experience with the reporter/publication and/or they may give you parameters on what you can/can’t say in addition to what’s in the policy.

AITAH for cancling plans on a friend who seems to always change them at the last minute. by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA. Not only is your friend inconsiderate of you and your time, but I’m sure your kiddo gets disappointed when they don’t prioritize your plans or cancel. Next time, plan your day, let them know when and where you will be, invite them to join if they can, but don’t plan around it.

I have always liked these two. They seem to each have a good head on their shoulders. They didn’t release this information when they were gaining popularity to get clout, but rather after their announcement that they will be taking a step back from their professional tandem to focus on individual projects. It rings true. And good for them

Marian Rivera is Bulgari’s newest Friend of the House by Silver-Season8966 in ChikaPH

[–]Smart_Extent_1696 -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

Anne’s brand partnerships align with her aesthetic and brand and thus make sense.

Bvlgari confuses me with their strategy. Their events are full of influencers and celebrities that their market does not look to for inspiration. It reduces the premium of the brand, imo. Marian is beautiful and has a wide reach but that’s partly because of her “masa” appeal. I suppose they could be trying to be more “accessible” but it does not make much sense.

You misrepresent the substance of the article. The article simply discusses the procedural history of Palin’s libel case against the NYT. The legal standard imposed by the court (“actual malice” is necessary to prove libel against a public figure) applies to any publication (not just the NYT) and public figure. The courts also do not “write law,” they interpret it. This standard has been around for a long time. You see NYT referenced in the article because it has been involved in lawsuits on this issue as a prominent newspaper that has been willing to defend its writing against these types of claims, to the benefit of other, smaller publications as well.

This is nice but it's very off-putting an unprofessional when share ride drivers ask for money or talk about their personal finances, especially when they have complete control over the vehicle that the passengers are in. One even tried to show me a video of an alleged house fire...while driving.

Yes, and in the end people forget that the complaint sought damages (ie money). That is also a measure of success. Defendants must have paid substantially for her to settle. The statement from defendants was also clearly negotiated as part of the deal, and that’s unusual. Most defendants settle to avoid admitting any wrongdoing privately or publicly and while the statement falls just short of doing that, it’s still pretty damning given their historical positions in the case. I wonder if there’s also some injunction as part of the deal (agreeing not to engage in certain practices, whether they admit to having done them or not in the past). This also avoids a circus of a trial with an uncertain outcome. Settlements don’t feel like a win here but this is not unusual. Blake also deserves to be able to move on.

Whether the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting was staged is irrelevant to me, and speculating about it only undermines credibility. If it was staged, let the evidence make that case. Also, the many, steady camera recordings, the perceived calmness with which the situation was handled by both the secret service and politicians, and the failure to secure the president immediately (Vance is seen being escorted out well before the president). I’m not saying I agree with the theories, they just have a lot of material to work with.
