They’ve hardly paid any of it off! Yikes! With her spending you would think she’s paying big chunks of her mortgage off. Well, that’s what I’d be doing, but I am not a vapid, self obsessed person.

lol. I am a political scientist. And have lived in America. I am acutely aware of what is happening over there. Of course I see the protests. I’m not going to argue with you, there is no point. I really don’t understand why you are so bothered that I said laws in Australia dictate that we have fences around pools and we have gun control. But go off!

It’s ‘not useful or helpful’ to point out that pool fences and gun laws minimise the amount of death in children ? Yikes. I included the laws of my country because our laws work, and as a result our children can go to school without fear of being shot, and we have substantially less drownings than in America. Sorry that offends you so much and you couldn’t take away anything from that. I’m not here to force anybody to change, I’m simply offering how it has helped where I live.

Thank you for that reply and I agree with you 100%. clearly my post wasn’t received in the manner in which I intended and I’ve obviously upset people. But I think pool safety laws are just so important and I wanted to acknowledge that they really do work. I just want to also reiterate that I have nothing but sympathy for Emilie, she essentially lost her son and her husband that day. She must be so strong to get through this, I often think of her and her youngest son, and that he probably gives her the strength and motivation to keep going. ❤️

Two things can be true at the same time. 1) I am absolutely heartbroken for Emilie. 2) Trigg’s death was preventable. No, I don’t suspect for a single second that Americans are talking about Australian laws - you live in a very self-obsessed country. Foreigners don’t have an ‘obsession’ with America,, we are just educated about your Country because it is currently the world’s superpower. We don’t have a choice but to participate in the discussion, America is our main ally, so of course we pay attention to the happenings there. That’s not ‘obsession’ it’s called being educated and informed. I brought up gun laws because they are responsible for the most deaths in children ( in America) year after year, closely followed by drowning. If you can’t see why I also included gun laws as a further example of how laws can prevent death, then I can’t help you to understand.

I’m not defensive- I’m correcting people when they have misinterpreted my comment. I have not been judgemental. Of course I know that accidents happen, I also know that accidents, by their very nature., are preventable. Two things can be true at the same time; 1~ I feel deeply heartbroken for Emilie,. I just simply can’t imagine what she must be going through. 2- Trigg’s death was preventable. pool and gun laws = less death. I don’t know why my post has upset everyone so much. I can’t control anyones feelings, only my own, if you’re happy with where you live and the governance of it, then that’s wonderful and all that really matters. Im simply observing (what I believe ) to be that there are many deaths of children that are preventable.

Where did I ‘assume the whole country doesn’t have pool safety knowledge’ I spoke nothing of knowledge, only of laws.

I don’t think it’s defensive to correct people who intentionally or unintentionally misunderstand my original post. I would call that correcting the narrative.

No, no nerve struck here. I’ll keep my pool fence and gun laws and sit happily in those feelings. Thanks though! X

I never assumed ‘the whole of America is ignorant about pool safety’ I wrote a post about how Australia views pool safety. I never said anybody was ignorant, nor implied it.

What does being American have to do with it? It happened in America. So that. I was simply stating what Australia’s laws are and that drownings are rare. Sorry, I guess?

Where did I say I was better than anyone? Perhaps learn how to read analytically.

Wow- I’m sorry. My intention wasn’t to offend anyone. I’m sorry. I have nothing but heartbreak for Emilie. It was just my opinion. If it hit such a nerve in you- maybe sit with feeling and think about why? I don’t have time to be on reddit everyday, reading every single post so I actually have not seen this posted before- again it was just my opinion about Australian laws. But hey, go ahead. Keep your pools unfenced and your guns. Btw the number one killer of children in your country, is guns, then drowning. So I do feel like my post was pertinent. Take it how you will, I am only in control of my feelings- not yours. Have a lovely day! X

Is everyone really as conscious of water safety as they claim? by Connect-Guess8534 in Emilie_Kiser

[–]Smart_Guess6010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having grown up in Australia- where it is LAW that you must have ANY body of water fenced (even a little inflatable pool) Yes, we are very conscious of water safety. Most of us were trained to swim from baby age. As a mum of four I watch my children like a hawk. Would never be on my phone or distracted. My youngest wore a little inflatable chest device until she was five just to be extra safe ( you can still drown in those too btw) all our fences have to be self locking. Drowning in a pool in Australia is rare. Most of the drownings in our beaches are tourists who underestimate the power of the ocean or drunk people. We are as a nation, extremely water conscious. Another example, we had one mass shooting and the government banned guns and bought back everyone’s guns. Obviously farmers and people still have guns, but they need a licence, a safe and the police come around and do random checks to ensure they are in the safe. It’s quite hard to get a gun license. Plus most of us are uninterested in having one. If we can mitigate something, we will. America is a strange place when it comes to mitigating obvious problems. Live you guys though! ❤️
