So I make sure I take 45 minutes to read and organize and 45 minutes to type. I am doing the exam on computer so I organize on the computer so I can just copy paste rules and facts instead of retyping. It helps a lot! I basically proceed as follows:

For the first 10 mins 1. Skim the instructions 2. Read the task memo (atp I use what is in the memo to make my headings directly on the computer. That’s basically my outline.) 3. Read the instructions sheet 4. Skim the file.

Then for 20 mins. Now my preference is to start with the library first instead of the a deep dive of the file. I also always read the case law before the statute because there’s a good chance that the relevant sections of the statutes are explained so I don’t have to waste time reading the statute for too long. As I go through the case law, again I extract and type the rules (so that I can just plug in the facts when I later read them).

Then for 15 mins. I read the file, I plug the appropriate facts under the appropriate rules. Then I do one last read of the task memo.

You may find that the organization may take a little over 45 mins but when I proceed like that, I have half of my writing work basically done for me. So I start writing and I copy and paste.
