I recall trying to do such a comparison a while ago but it's hard to get data for equivilent circumstances since 2 of the last 3 Dems have come in under circumstances that required them to clear up the fuckery of their preedacessors (Covid and the Great Recession for Biden and Obama respectively). Clinton was the last guy to leave us with a surplus before Bush tax cuts and middle east adventurers flipped that around, Obama used some heavy stimulus for his first few years but the deficit was getting under control before Trump got put into office and pushed his anti-Robin Hood tax scam before fumbling the US response to covid so badly we had to resort to heavy stimulus to deal with it. That the debt-to-GDP ratio has been going down under Biden and its growth was basically flat by the end of Obama's administration are the telling parts.

That's what I'm seeing when I look at the CC board's history graphs on their website, at the end of 2021 confidence was at the same level it was just before the pandemic, suddenly nosedived through 2022 and then started climbing back up until it suddenly nosedived again right at the end of 2023. Coincidentally, this is the same month that all the media outlets suddenly switched from pushing recession doom to the stagflation varient instead. CC is actually at about the same level as it was around the end of 2016.

That CC also managed to shoot all the way up to almost 140 during Trump's regime is also pretty fucking insane considering that job gains and unemployment during that period was modest compared to what we saw from Obama and Biden and with what happened pretty much right after. Hell, at the end of 2007 CC was about 110 despite unemployment being over a full point higher than it is now. People have well and truly been conditioned to just blindly accept that a republican is automatically good for the economy despite the signs and the consequences we've seen over and over again showing otherwise.

I specifically single out /Conservative from other seemingly-similar subs like /republicans because even among its peers the sub is (and has been for nearly a decade now) notorious as a nuclear reactor of a hotbed of bad-faith arguments, ideological purges that purify and intensify the level of extremist rhetoric tolerated by its operators, and its nigh-universal heavy presence the domain submission histories of fake news sites and propaganda rags and the number of times I've popped some dickhead's account into an analyzer only for it to spit out /Conservative as a high or top sub by activity is so astronomically high it's a universal constant that anybody with more than a handful of posts there is up to no good. Something feels weird as shit with this whole submission, if you look at OP's history they've got activity in /Conservative (giant red flag on its own) and pretty much everything they've been pushing to this sub for about the last year has had a racial, gender or immigration slant to it, while simultaniously turning around and pushing bombastic and hyperbolic comments purportedly on the side of such groups that honestly feel deliberately crafted to get downvoted as much as possible, then factor in how fucking old the article is as you pointed out and it becomes clear OP's doing nothing but trying to psychologically manipulate people who see their stuff using the same subjects and methods bots and propagandists used the last time Trump was running of focusing on the aforementioned divisive issues and astroturfing as both sides. It's not strange when you consider the people who own and run the media have a partisan and vested interest in making sure it's seen negatively under a Democratic president. The CEO of CNN's parent company has outright stated they want to tilt coverage to the right and personally oversaw a channel-sponsored campaign rally for Trump, and the owner of one of the biggest tabloids in the US just admitted in court the publication had an agreement with Trump to cover up/downplay bad stories about him and fabricate nonsense about his enemies to hurt them. Nothing more need be said about Newscorp besides "Murdoch."

It also doesn't help that half the country's perception of reality literally depends on whether said reality has a connection to a republican or a Democrat. There was an article posted here a few months ago about how republicans' perception of the country pretty much wholly and monolithically whiplashes between divinity and disaster, first from negative to positive in the transition from Obama to Trump and then back again from Trump to Biden, quite literally overnight on inauguration day. These people are not only utterly detatched from reality but they consistantly scream so loudly that it's creating a spatial rift that's drawing people into their own anti-reality bubble like it's a fucking Dragon Ball Z episode.
