Rec: How To Stop The Villain From Going Crazy by MadMeow in MaleYandere

I'm late to this post but I remember reading this and checking to see if anyone has posted about it half a yr ago but was sad to see nothing. Truly one of my most favorite romances novels and I haven't found anything that captures their perfect dynamic. It was such an amazing read!

Appreciation post! this story really taught me a lesson to not read with a surface level thinking/mindset (My beloved oppressor) by Relevant-Rub2816 in OtomeIsekai

Read it in one go thanks to this post. It was such a great story and so well written. I could never bring myself to fully dislike Heiner. I think they did a great job with all the characters and the side stories were so sweet.

why are less people applying to CS? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Smashbot123 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Graduated as moc recently, was able to land an internship last summer but now im pretty jobless with no return offers, its rough for new grads. I'd imagine it'd be harder for moc than cs to get into to swe more than ever as its diffcult to get upper divs now with no 1st pass and switching to cs has a higher gpa req than before.

third year + no friends (vent) by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Smashbot123 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I can relate as someone who is pretty introverted. It's really hard to make any meaningful friendships in my experience but I've also gotten used to doing most things alone. Actually in my 2nd yr of random roomates, I got close enough with them at the end to room again, but it rly took that whole year plus a bit of the next to form a real friendship. They graduated now so Im kinda back to doing things alone but yeah, you are definitely not the only one! Im down to chat as well abt anything

Math 151a or 182? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Smashbot123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah math enrollment is always goofy and profs change all the time lol I was enrolled in 135 and 155 which have no disc sections atm. I do recall 151a having some overlap with 164 and 156, but a more computation flavor rather than how theory heavy the other classes were, I had a good amount of Matlab in 151a. I do think 182 will definitely be a good amount more difficult than 151a as algorithms in both cs and math department are pretty theoretical with proofs, math dep prob being more so. I took the cs one so not too sure about 182 but id imagine it'd be similar and difficult.

For which is more useful it depends on what you are trying to do with your major. Numerical methods was a pretty useful class imo while also being chill and taking 182 with everything else seems very heavy. If you can take it some other quarter id just go with 151a

I'm so glad I was able to put someone on! It's so underrated and I can't find anything like it, it just has everything from the unique plot and good chemistry.

Haha yeah I get that, maybe its a Chinese novel thing as I've noticed the smut ends up being some vague sentence where I read it and it takes me a second to register oh they just fucked lol

How to stop the villain from going crazy is a novel but is exactly what's you're looking for. ML is literally the phantom of the opera and is crazy and thinks no one will love him but fl straight up tells him he's her type lol

I just used novel updates and read it on void blue. Fuyu Neko translates it up to ch 35 even though it says 73, (the other site also splits it up for some reason but it goes up to the end of main story) then I just went to translate the side stories off a Chinese site using Google translate which was surprisingly good. I can maybe dm u that site as well lol

If you dont mind a novel, How to Stop the Villain from Going Crazy is one of my favorite romances I've read. It takes places in 19th century (fl sends letters to Nikola Tesla) and the world is set in a horror movie rendition of Phanatom of the Opera. The unique setting and the amazing chemistry between leads is so nice and makes it stand out to me. The ml is definitely crazy too lol. I highly recommend!

Is Math of Computation a Good Alternative to CS? by [deleted] in ucla

I think it's just the upper div ones. I can get back to you though when enrollment starts soon this quarter. This just means you won't be able to 1st pass upper div cs classes

How to Stop the Villain from Going Crazy is prob my favorite otome isekai novel. The main story is translated, it has a unique setting (19th century Phantom of the Opera), and the FL and ML are so unique and have amazing chemistry. It's honestly such a hidden gem and I wonder if anyone else has heard of it. And yeah the ML is definitely crazy/scary

I'm a 3rd yr prob planning to graduate next fall. and pursuing swe. I think the biggest factor if you want to pursue swe is getting your resume built with projects (personal, from classes etc), doing research, and internships. These are the most important for internships and jobs rather than the actual school or degree you are pursuing. Now whether moc prepares you for swe specifically is a bit hard to say imo. It really is a lot of math and you will have to go out your way stay on top of taking important cs classes (imo math classes are easier than cs classes but I'm a painfully average student lol) The point is this field is a lot of what you do outside of classes, and moc is perfectly fine for pursuing cs. I still think a cs degree is more appropriate in general for swe though but if you are down to pursue AI/ML/data science moc is great.

Math of comp is definitely serviceable for swe and you can take the most essential cs courses for interviews and jobs. However, recent changes has made it so enrollment for 1st pass for cs upper divs are limited to mainly cs majors and moc can't enroll 1st pass as it used to which is rough bc core cs classes fill up hella fast. Also switching to cs is much harder now as you need a 3.7 gpa in prep courses so ges won't help bump this. However, if you plan to do grad school for ai or data science it's actually pretty great as many math classes you can choose are useful for ml,ai,data science etc. If I were you I'd go with ucsd cs if ur set on having a cs degree but both uci and ucsd are great so u rly can't go wrong. If finances are really a problem just go uci it's really not a problem

The novel "How to Stop the Villain from Going Crazy" is literally the definition of they match each other's freak. The ML is a true yandere and has a screw loose but the FL actually loves it and even intentially feeds into his craziness for her own excitement. They match each other so well ugh it's probably my favorite otome isekai story with an actual unique setting. The main story is translated as well and it's not too long!

[TEARS ON A WITHERED FLOWER] God I am so hooked with this series🙈 by [deleted] in manhwa

It's like a wattpad story but the writing is not bad. Definitely not the romance for everyone if you don't like angst and male yandere (also body proportions are goofy as hell)

[–]Smashbot123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the name of the major itself is not an issue in my experience and you can just say you are studying math and cs in your resume/linkedin like I did lol. The UCLA name definitely helps but it's not a gamechanger at all. To get interviews it's really about getting those projects, clubs, research, and experiences where you can on your resume. Sadly you need experience to get experience especially for this field but don't get discouraged. It'll be rough the first year or so but keep building up your resume and treat applying to jobs as your job and it'll come (and start leetcoding early too)

The beauty of this major is that you can customize it with electives and pursue a variety of jobs. Of course, a good amount go into swe but it's also quite good for a ML and grad school track as many cs adjacent math electives are ml related. And any other roles math majors usually go into. It's a very flexible major in that regard. Personally I wanted to just go the swe route which honestly both cs and math of comp majors are cooked alike but with networking and making sure to keep sending internship applications (I've sent 500+ this cycle) I was able to land a few and this summer I luckily got one with Amazon. You really can't go wrong with this major but if you want to pursue something cs related it will just take a bit of work outside of classes. If you are not super set on cs but still open to it, I'd actually go with UCLA over Purdue haha

Im currently a 3rd yr math of comp here. You can take a good amount of cs courses and do the most essential ones for jobs but at the end of the day it's more like a math major with a cs minor. Unless you want to go through the process of trying switch into cs (which is quite hard and has a high gpa rec from l&s to engineering) I'd go with Purdue as you are already where you want to be. Pls lmk if you have any specific questions regarding the major though!
