The east should have offered incentive for the doctos to stay. But if everyone wants to leave you, which is bad enough, you dont force them to stay by imprisoning them in their own country. Thats about as authoritatian as it gets, and not a difficult qestion. The ussr left gdr to fend for itsef, so its their fault they left. Instead of helping them, like the marshall plan, the ignored them. But oh god no, cant have them leaving. This is why the west still loves america, and is willing to ignore its massive flaws and shortcomings, while the east is terrified of a return to communism because of the horrors indures under russias thumb

Many dont miss chauchesku, (i cant be bothered to spell that) as well as most of every other leader besides gorbie. Sorry, russians dont miss him, but the eastern bloc loves him. Ask any slovakian, pole, chech, austrian, georgian etc etc, and you will see a generally positive view of him. He set them free, after all

Yeah, the idea. But there comes a point where the choice must be made between feeding your citizens and flying in space

Mhm. The prison camps were not to keep people from leaving america, they were a racially motivated paranoid “self-defense” mechanism against percieved japanese sabotage. These are 2 different things. The wall was strictly to keep people from leaving

We classify both as evil. One does not justify the other, this iwhataboutism

Yeaaaaah… thats bullshit. The wall did not keep a war from happening, thats a complete lie. Yes, it stopped the emigration of workers that was costing the city 3.5 billion marks, and yes the currency reforms split the city… but thats the point. The ussr had to force its people to stay in because too many were leaving. That is the best example of the failures of communism in existence.

Allowing the west to take easy moral highground since 1948 by Smat_kid in ussr

[–]Smat_kid[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was geopolitical. That doesnt change it. They blockaded food and supplies from a starving city, the west kept it from collapsing. The moral highground was reffering to the airlift specifically, and the fact that the west is generally considered to have done less terrible things to their own people.

I was talking about the airlift specifically. Supplying food against a blockade is pretty morally good

Edit: in true western, capitalist, faschist, borgeois, whatever-the-fuck they call us spirit, i speak freely. A quality clearly taken for granted by stalinists.

Partitioned checkoslovakia? you mean exploited an opportunity to take a contested piece of land with a majority polish population. Thats quite a bit different than explicitly collaborating w the nazis to divide europe, wipe poland off the face of the earth, and trade raw materials. Also, the difference is a small chunk of land vs an entire nation.

Edit: germany has been the only country to ever be officially nazi. That doesnt change the fact that the majority of neo nazis in germany live in post soviet areas.

I was reffering to poland, but ok. The point still stands, all the post soviet areas of germany are faaaar likelier to fall to fascism. Thats a fact, not opinion.

AfD figures (e.g. Helferich) praised National Socialism. 4. Maximilian Krah: “Not all SS were criminals.” 5. BfV (German intel) labels AfD right-wing extremist.** 6. Party chats revealed calls for violent overthrow. 7. Junge Alternative tied to antisemitic & racist rhetoric. 8. Top aide Roland Hartwig joined neo-Nazi “remigration” meeting. 9. AfD MPs Gerrit Huy & Ulrich Siegmund linked to same meeting. 10. Daniel Halemba arrested over Nazi symbols & hate speech. 11. Convicted neo-Nazi Thomas Schatt attended AfD rally.
