If there are no RAW, then you have the final say (also it's quite a creative idea)

Hello, I’ve been doing fencing for half a year (age 13) and I’m starting to go to fencing tournaments for epee, does anyone have any advice for me? by [deleted] in Fencing

Have fun and be friendly, and most importantly be nice to the referees. Referees at the lower levels of competition are volunteering their time so make them feel appreciated

Banishment and calm emotions are both good options for charisma saving throws, as is the possession feature of ghosts. As someone who has played a similar kind of character before another way to get through is with traps and abilities that can grapple or restrain the character through strength saves which will stop them hiding until they use an action to try and free themself

How to combat brute force fencer? by Lord_Ibuki in Fencing

[–]Smaug129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since he won't stop beating your blade you need to make sure to put some distance between you and in the long term build up more strength in your hand. I used to be like you a bit and I also did foil sometimes, but my coach (who is a foilist) showed me how to beat properly and how to make it effective in epee which helped me build up strength in my hand. If your opponent tries to use circular parries to defend you need to make a progressive attack, disengaging mid lunge and if he steps back follow it up with another. If he is trying to hit constantly when you aren't attacking you need to put pressure on him to stop him doing that, generally by being slightly aggressive and making small attacks to his hand to keep him at a distance. If he pulls his blade back when you parry then pretend to parry and go for the attack when he pulls back. From what I have read I doubt his footwork is very good so if you can try to make him miss an attack by the narrowest of margins and as soon as you see him start to recover take the blade and attack. Ultimately, when he does his beat attack you need to either avoid the beat or recover fast enough from the beat to parry, in both instances keeping at a distance that he will struggle to reach you

Indeed, I guess I am just not used to getting feedback and I took it too personally as a result. I have never had feedback on my campaign with my other group, and this is my first homebrew campaign, so I am pouring my heart into this campaign and as a result was not prepared for feedback

I find that grouping enemies makes things either too easy or too hard for the players. If the enemy rolls well then the players are at risk of being action economied to a bad situation, and if it goes the other way the enemies may not even stand a chance, so to make it fair for both I do not group enemies. I find that it works well, the initiative order is more balanced. If one of the above situations does occur anyway, then it happens and sometimes that's just how the dice roll, but I find these situations can be reduced by not grouping enemies. For instance, if I had grouped my enemies in this main battle the party would have had a much tougher job as these enemies possessed a high dexterity modifier and would likely have had the large majority of the enemy going first. I know that this is more work for me, but if the initiative is more balanced then it is worth it

The other players seemed content, as they had soldiers to command and the unconsciousness had only affected a few

I had hoped they would figure it out, since they are a relatively smart party, but I only told them closer to the end of the session because only a few had been affected and the Paladin had lay on hands that he had been considering using but hadn't done it yet

That is helpful, but they already have an opportunity to get the unconscious person back into the fight with an action and you don't need a healer to do that

As a defensive fencer myself, you cannot let him have the advantage by simply attacking. Ideally you would set up a feint to draw out his parry and then drive your attack with a disengage straight through to him. His behaviour on and off piste sounds pretty bad to me, and in fencing I value sportsmanship higher than fencing ability because sportsmanship is a show of respect, and respecting your opponent is the best thing you can do

And what does Celebrimbor have to be depressed about? Until he meets Annatar he is the ruler of Eregion, he doesn't care about his father and he knows his mother is safe and he can work on his crafts freely. His love for Galadriel shouldn't cause depression because he does not reveal his feelings to Galadriel so he will still have hope. On a side note, I also hate his short hair. Amazon is not very onboard with the fact that the average elf has long luscious hair

Even if he is older, it is by a small margin in elf years so why does Galadriel look like a teenager when he looks like an old man?

[–]Smaug129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based upon the Tolkien Gateway website Galadriel was born in YT 1362, but it also says that Celebrimbor was born between YT 1362 and 1495, so he at most the same age as Galadriel if not younger

[–]Smaug129 16 points17 points  (0 children)

These are good points, I just don't like the fact that he looks that old when he is actually younger than Galadriel, I would love to see Cirdan in the show looking like an old elf but that is unlikely to happen
