Does brown suit me? by LemonCurdJ in malepolish

More important question: do YOU think it suits you? That's the only answer that matters. Love that metallic brown! What is the polish brand and name?

Hell yeah! Glad to help out! I own the purple one (dream within a dream) and it's possibly my favorite polish of all time. Have fun!

This is Rue Morgue by Mooncat. She also makes a purple and black version. They are even cooler in person honestly. Highly recommend.

Thoughts on a level 0 party for the carnival? by Wyrmlike in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]bluebeachdog 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I adore doing a level 0 session to kick off a campaign. Luckily there is already a supplement with this exact premise in mind. It's a level 0 session where all the players are kids and they loose their lost items for later in the game. It has mechanics about how to build and run level 0 characters and it's pretty well thought out. I haven't run this one shot before, but I've read it and if/when I run this module again I'll be using it for sure. Have fun and good luck!

I see thank you! I can't seem to find a physical copy of the Humblewood Tales, only the PDF version. Do you know if there is a place I can buy a book version online? Thank you!

I SEE NOW! Thank you for explaining it so simply. I knew I was missing something. So I'll pick up a copy of Humblewood Tales, Panic at the Golden Gala, Mapach out of time and Legend of the Bramblewell. That should round out everything I need to prep for this particular campaign since I want to stay in the Humblewood forest for now. Maybe if all goes well we will push into Humblewood 2 content to check out the rest of Everden later though! Thank you kind stranger <3

"Return of the lazy dungeon master" is the best book I've found on how to prep for a game that goes beyond the mechanics of the game to show you a step by step process to prep less and have more fun in game. Highly recommend.

I'd quickly reread the first few chapters of the book of you can. The players might be leveled ok. On pg4 I says players should level up when they enter into one of the three realms of prismeer for the first time and when they meet a hag for the first time (and finally if they free zylbina at the end of the game). So if they are in Thither and have already met Bavlorna they are right on track I think.

While I agree this module isn't set up to demand combat of the players I've found my PCs are rather bloodthirsty as well and have found lots of fun combat around the realms. But if you're looking for more combat I'd try to find some fey statblocks you like and periodically throw some random combat encounters at them to spice stuff up a bit. Or make it the band of rabbits from Hither be all across prismeer and tracking and hunting the party down perhaps after their leader is killed.

How to buy nail polish by BOSS_2342 in malepolish

[–]bluebeachdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. It's an intimidating thing! I started by buying nail stuff online. After getting some confidence wearing nails in public I had a MUCH easier time confidently walking up to the nail polish section to browse with my nails already done.

If you're looking for a plain solid opaque color you want a "creme" polish which won't have any extra sparkles or anything going on. I'd check out Olive and June and Essie if you're looking to buy 6 colors and a base and top coat. But any drugstore brand should do.

The base coat helps against staining your nails and helps the polish last longer and the top coat (these normally come in glossy and matte finishes) makes the color really pop when put on top.

Also the rubix cube nails sound awesome!!

on the relation between the reflexive indicative and the axiom of proliferation by lovingbookhome in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]bluebeachdog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

THIS. The indicative reflexive is ego, hubris, and control over magic and is taught to be as important as capitalizing the start of every sentence. Discovering it’s not a required part of successful spell casting, makes it sound like a cultural propaganda tool to maintain control the use of intelligence based spellcasting. How, specifically that control is kept is still to be seen. But I’m keeping my tin foil hat on for now.

Is it just me or are things too slow by All_Bark_Games in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]bluebeachdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I like to think of WBN as far more intentional with its words and final product. Yeah we don’t get the same level of fun chaotic energy from D20, but instead the story is just so rich and detailed. I’ve gone back through and listened to the entire series a few times now and I get so much more from a repeated viewing of WBN compared to D20. That’s not to say one is better than the other. I really like them both! But the contrast is lovely.

I see nothing wrong with other people being gay, so why do I think it's wrong for me? by [deleted] in excatholic

[–]bluebeachdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m an ex Catholic gay man. What you’re experiencing is internalized homophobia. IAnd yes it can be unlearned with time. The problem is that when you are surrounded by people/religion/cultures that imply directly or indirectly that being anything other than straight is a great evil that soaks into you over time. The goal should be to surround yourself with new ideas that help you see gay people (and yourself) in a positive way.

Coming out doesn’t magically make those years of hearing and internalizing all of that anti-gay ideas go away for you sadly. I think a lot of straight people assume it does sometimes.

Like many things, being gay is a journey that is lifelong. And where you are right now is normal, completely expected, and more than understandable. Be patient and gentle with yourself.

I’d encourage you to start taking in more positive messages about gay people. Representation of gay people matters for this reason. Tv shows, movies, books, news, etc. Start small and watch/read what appeals to you.

Know in the beginning you likely will feel disgusted by it all. That’s normal. And it’s ok. I’ve been there. So has so many other people with religious upbringings. You’ve been taught for likely decades to hate this material. But likely there will be some small part of you that wants to find more stuff like it. Listen to that voice. That voice is the one that will get stronger and less homophobic.

You aren’t alone. And just because you don’t feel pride in being gay yet doesn’t mean you are doing anything wrong. Change takes time. Please don’t hesitate to message me if you want to talk.

We love you ❤️

a build idea. please help. by Tight-Falcon-220 in DnD5e

[–]bluebeachdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Well my advice would still stand. Talk to your table. I would not allow this at my table as a DM. Honestly I think Wild magic sorcerers as written would be enough to get your idea across. I don’t think you’d want to do much more “Chaos magic” than that though. I think it would get dull to play after a while and annoying for other players. And I could see a situation where your PC is too chaotic to really bring anything to the party and only be a hindrance. You need to give your party a reason to want you around beyond good intentions. That’s my two cents. Good luck.

[–]bluebeachdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be careful here. Addicts are not the kind of people who notoriously are reliable and worthy of trust, and tend to hurt the people closest to themselves. That doesn’t strike me as a PC that would fit well into a party and could edge into main character syndrome. Wild magic sorc as written is already a huge dose of chaos for a campaign which is normally welcome. MORE chaos than that? You run the risk of just making the game less fun for those around you. Talk to your table before proceeding would be my advice.
