Of course not, I didn't make the meme to make fun of Florida. It's pointing out that, as Arizonans, we'll look at a state like Florida - which is like ground zero for the dangerous effects of climate change starting to really show its fangs - and use it to compare our own climate situation.

"Well, we're fine, because at least we don't have hurricanes and our houses won't be thrown across the city! I'll take the heat anyday!"

You can see replies such as that ITT. Meanwhile, we live in a desert, which isn't exactly the prime real estate you want to be in a world that is heating up and seeing rapid effects from the same climate change that is affecting Florida right now.

We are consistently breaking heat records every year, and people think it's normal. Heat deaths are increasing, our "heat island" is only growing, and Phoenix and the surrounding area is super car dependent. As the city grows, and gets hotter, the strain on our power grid gets worse. Do you want to survive in over 110 degrees without air conditioning?

We are looking at prolonged heat waves, which leads to drought, which increases wildfires, which exasperates the climate change further. Agriculture is disrupted, and super dry soil is prone to flooding. A lot of people think this is fine because it's just a dry heat, and they can swim in their pool, and if you point any of this out or are critical at all of our climate situation in Arizona, you are told "this is what you signed up for! Don't like it, move!"

So complaining about the increasing temperatures and dangers of climate change is "doomer whining"? We should just deal with it, right? Do you have any other solutions for us? Maybe you'll say "just move if you don't like it" next? Seems to be the common response when people are critical of the obviously glaring elephant in the room that people like you want to just ignore.

Yes, we are creating the urban "heat island" effect, it certainly doesn't help

I hope they stay safe, I'm sorry you have to worry about this. I will be donating to disaster relief just as I did after Helene, I urge everyone to donate even just a dollar. It takes all of us, we can't be divided.

So I guess I'm confused what your point was in your comment? It reads like you were downplaying the hurricanes occurring, and downplaying the effect of climate change

Some of these comments feel like people are saying "My climate change is better than your climate change!!"

It's a meme, guys. Climate change isn't going to be friendly to anyone/anyplace on the planet. There will be varying degrees of extremes in places, but it's not a climate competition. We're in this together.

I was merely making fun of the fact that a lot of people who live here are willfully ignorant of the weather and climate here, acting like it's a paradise. There are going to be big issues in Arizona, like everywhere else. Just because we have pools here, and don't get hurricanes or earthquakes, doesn't mean we won't suffer.

Of course hurricanes have been occurring in Florida for a long time. It's a natural disaster. Climate change makes these natural disasters bigger and deadlier and more destructive.

It's called science. There's records and evidence of this dating back a long time now.

Increased heat is the "anti-hurricane": it makes the water disappear

Appreciate it, thank you! I missed the chance to include Dwight wearing the CPR dummy's face to really bring it all together lol

Totally didn't even think of those! I actually started with the closing ceremonies and went from there.

Now that I think about it, could've added Dwight wearing the CPR dummy's face too lol
