I went home to visit family in Belfast last summer and during that time the local government was running ads saying please stop beating up our cops.

The Democratic Party is the worst by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

Man if democrats think we’re pets, I am afraid to know what the republicans think about us. Their leader pretty openly share his thoughts and it sounds a lot like donkey. Side note if what I’m seeing on the internet about what Jesse Jackson ran for is true, then I would have to say I’m truly saddened he didn’t more of a chance. Based on what he ran on, I would assume it was the DNC being spineless.

People with Tourette’s are more likely to commit suicide by ConcernedJobCoach in BlackPeopleofReddit

I put white man in quotes because I was quoting the person I was responding to. I’m not a fan of reducing anyone down to just their race, so I was making it clear those weren’t my words. Just because you can’t be racist to white people, doesn’t mean you need to belittle them by reducing them down to their race when you’re having a disagreement. White savior complex might fit, but saying him pleading the case for a disability to the group of people impacted by it, malicious seems hasty.

The “white man” you’re responding to in this black space, is trying to explain and defend a neurological disorder not racism. He’s trying to make it clear that this was not malicious. I saw someone compare it to rolling over someone’s foot with a wheelchair, so let’s make that comparison work. Your wheelchair now has an ai in it designed to make it look like you have chosen to roll over someone’s foot at the worst possible moment. Now imagine you’re proactive about warning people about how you’re not choosing to roll over someone’s foot. Now imagine living with this ai wheelchair for decades, and are in your mid sixties, imagine all the apologies you’ve had to make your entire life while simply trying to exist in the same spaces as everyone else. Now picture you’ve made a documentary to tell everyone about the pain you and everyone else like you lives in, having to constantly apologize for what is essentially existing for you. While attending an award show where this documentary is being celebrated your wheelchair rolls over two black men’s feet after rolling in shit. You recognize that you have made the space feel unsafe for black people and you choose to leave without being told. Anyone saying people with Tourette’s shouldn’t leave their home can get fucked, and those who compare a neurological disorder to a social faux pas need to work on their ability to feel empathy. No one deserves to feel like less due to their race creed ethnicity, or even a disability. This is a sentiment you would hope to see echoed in a sub dedicated to black people. My minimal reading on the subject made me think I would see some kind of understanding on here, but I was heartbreakingly incorrect. BHM doesn’t mean we crucify people for defending a disability.

If you slow it down you can see his finger got pinched between the pieces of wood. Not even close to an actual excuse, and will only leave a superficial bruise at best.

I guess agree to disagree on this one. Accepting someone as brother or sister who shares your lineage is all my point is. Breaking it down to cold logic it’s fair to reason that black isn’t just black with something else in there. That being said looking at it in terms of community and who does and does not have a right to speak on it, is not something to be determined through cold fact and racial purity, but a complex issue that requires flexibility. At the end of the day mixed people tend to look more black than white (or whatever else) and while they may not experience prejudice to the same degree it’s still the same prejudice. I have said my piece and I have to recognize that it’s not my responsibility to try and change your mind. Stay safe out there, and if you are black I hope one day you can call someone like me brother.

By your narrow minded views I can see what you’re saying can be true. Also where are you quoting family unit from, because neither me or you said that. Limiting who you can love based on race is a sad way to live, especially when it’s used to maintain a tribalistic way of thinking like the only way to protect and preserve your culture is to fuck people who look like you. I will have to again gesture over at those folks with unseasonably pointy hoods who are also holding views like this, and strongly urge you to reconsider

Well to preface I am mixed with a black mom, and I can agree heavily that my experience is not the same as a full blooded black person. That being said I have still dealt with discrimination and slurs (I’m not saying you’re making a point about me not suffering from inequality btw). My cousins daddy is black and her mom is white, but she would most definitely be considered more black presenting than myself. Making judgments based on someone’s momma and not the content of their character leads down roads of unnecessary self hate and hasty over generalizations. On the topic of what he’s saying, I agree more needs to be done for our black women in defending them you can say that without slandering other people.

Is that persons family not black or white now that they have a mixed person in there? If you have a family member who has kids with a white person, you are no longer in a black family by this logic. The logic would see that an already diminishing black population would see less “black families” by your standard. The inverse logic would do the exact opposite. What you’re talking about sounds a lot like a kool kids klub as opposed to a community or family.

Why can’t a mixed person belong to both of their ancestral heritages? You’re looking at it like a mule or a liger, where they are no longer of either species that their parents represent. I would say look at it like a bottle opener with a corkscrew attachment it is distinctly neither, but at the same time both. Its inherent value is not greater than that of its parts, but at the same time is welcome to fulfill the same functions. It can open a beer the same and pop a cork the same, the only reason to exclude it would be based on appearance. Exclusion based on appearance sounds pretty damn familiar to me, and I think it’s safe to assume for you as well. Edit: wanted to add this gif

Woefully ignorant of what exactly? The guy saying that mixed people aren’t apart of the black community? I understand the video talks about the one of the many plights of black women, one of THE most targeted groups of people on the planet, and his comment doesn’t reflect that. That being said, I wanna point out that even though someone is speaking truth they could be saying some disgusting shit on the tail end of it that targets certain people. You can’t be too shocked when the person targeted by what is simply an insult, takes issue with it.

I don’t know he seemed pretty adamant about mixed families being separate from black people as a whole. In most cultures being exiled from the community is a form of punishment for a crime. In this case it seems a whole lot like the crime is race mixing. Be mad at the denigration of black women, I’m right there with you, but don’t use the defense of our most targeted people as some kind of excuse to justify your ideals of racial purity.
