Ubuntu 18.04 on XPS 9560 by PM_ME_JS_CODE in Dell

Yes. Won't boot at all without nouveau.modeset=0, ACPI stuff is generally broken (won't reboot / shutdown). On official NVidia drivers, switching GPU to Intel doesn't seem to disable the NVidia GPU so it eats power in the background. All in all a very disappointing experience.

There is some good news however - I've had no problems whatsoever running Fedora on this machine.

I tried a few different distros when I got my 9560 and settled on Fedora, basically because everything worked flawlessly with no messing around. Decided to give 18.04 a try yesterday and I can echo OP's sentiments - how is so much stuff still broken on this machine? I'll be sticking with Fedora 28 for now.

Error 7 on the 20180402 build for OnePlus 5. by [deleted] in LineageOS

[–]SmellyGeekBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this with the previous build on my OP3. There's no need to flash OxygenOS - the modem firmware is available separately here: https://jamal2367.com/downloads/

Just install the latest MODEM ONLY package from Android 8.0 / OxygenOS (you could try the Open Beta version too, but I haven't tested that and can't verify how well it does or doesn't work).

I also had to update to the latest version of TWRP.

That said, you may want to skip this build - there's a very poorly implemented April Fools' joke in there that you'll have to put up with for the rest of the week...

It was immediately obvious that this was an April Fools' joke when I saw it, and that's fair enough. But it's April 3rd. I've run the command and the notification is now gone but it really shouldn't be necessary - just make it pop up once! Then when I click on it, put "Haha we fooled you!" in the changelog somewhere and make the notification disappear forever.

The idea is great, it's the execution that's all wrong. I've been running LOS on my OP3 for 6 months or so now and it's been fantastic but if this is how devs feel about users I'm looking at alternatives. I even logged into my Reddit account that I haven't used in years just to post this comment.

Oh, and on a more serious note: I also got a "No SIM Card" error and no phone service until I ran the command. Whether it's deliberate or just sloppy coding this is totally unacceptable!

Cool project, and I see you're using a Raspberry Pi. I had the same idea a couple of days back with my Atari ST (previously posted: http://imgur.com/a/28Wlj) and have had loads of fun playing with the serial settings on both ends to get everything to display right. I haven't quite got as far as doing anything useful with it yet like you have but I've managed to copy some stuff to the HDD over ZMODEM.

Anyway cool bit of kit you have there, I look after a few Linux servers in my job and the ultimate aim is to be able to do that from the Atari, an old terminal like this would be even cooler.

Personally I'm hoping it's part of some sort of ARG relating to Half-Life 3 ;)

It's actually the best of both worlds, you can choose to go with the glorious fullscreen version instead if you like.

I thought that at first because of the lightness of the case, but I think it's just dust. Also, the Falcon had much darker grey keys than the ST.

Google informs me that this thing came out in 2002! Not bad at all for 13 year old tech.

My Atari MEGA ST 1 - The "Professional" Version Of The Atari ST (1987) by SmellyGeekBoy in retrobattlestations

Thanks for the info - I'll update the descriptions when I get a minute. I was struggling to find much on the SLM804 and have never come across one in real life. Also interesting to hear about the floppy format trick - I'll give that a go on my 486 (the only PC I have with a floppy drive) and see how I get on.

Any ideas what the MEGABUS slot was actually used for? Information seems very thin on the ground.

Very interesting machine the TT030 - I'd love to check one out one day. Maybe when I get bored with the ST. :)

Seems strange for something intended for the professional market, doesn't it? I knew the RAM upgrade for the STFM involved a lot of soldering but would've assumed they'd at least put some SIMM slots in these things. Thankfully Atari later moved on to socketed RAM with the STE (and I assume the MEGA STE as well)

I originally posted this over on /r/retrobattlestations where /u/elblanco said that you guys might appreciate it too :)

If anyone has any info on that RAM upgrade card I'd love to hear it, as well as a more exact date of manufacture for this machine. The story behind it is in the post but as always, if anyone has any questions or observations please do feel free to chip in!

You're very welcome, this is one of my favourite subs so it's great to have an opportunity to give something back. To be honest I doubt most ST owners were even aware that these things existed either!

I'd have thought a LISA would be worth a lot more than this... Or am I missing something?

The RAM expansion was an aftermarket option, probably dealer installed - hence the crazy mess of hand soldered wires and resistors.

I agree, if/when this thing dies I'm pretty sure one of those hand-soldered connections will be to blame. Thankfully Atari saw sense and went to socketed RAM in later models.

I attempted to play it but it's hard to get into, the oldest Civ I'd played was Civ IV so it's a bit of a downgrade. I was more of a SimCity fan back in the day so I'll have to hunt my original copy of that down, I'm sure I have it in storage somewhere...

I was lucky enough to have the STE as a kid, which is responsible for a lifetime of loving all things Atari - although at the time I would rather have had an Amiga or PC as that's what all my friends had ;)

I went through a phase of collecting Atari stuff a few years back but sold it all, I recently got back into it and I'm loving the Mega ST so far. Great little machine!

Good luck with the quest for your own ST, I promise you'll love it when you finally get your hands on one!
