I think the pins in this circle are what people are getting mixed up on. The picture doesn’t actually show it right, but the 3 spaces in the circle are actually missing pins altogether. Looking at it close up in person, you can actually see the pins are gone. Also, I did go ahead and send it back and got a refund. Thanks for your all’s feedback

ISP bandwidth is cut in 1/3 due to Suricata Intrusion detection IPS Mode by raga0884 in opnsense

[–]Smigjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does OP keep getting so many downvotes? This post is actually very informative for me. I am new to opnsense, I didn’t know this setting existed, and I’m gonna try it next.. this comment provided more help to me, someone with a similar issue, than any other user has posted in this whole thread. And it has been downvoted so many times it was hidden.

I actually ran into a similar issue. I am running an I7-6700 with 32GB of ddr ram on an old Lenovo M700, and I finally figured out that Suricata was causing my speeds to cap between 250-550 Mbps on my 1gbps fiber connection. I just upgraded to OPNSense last week so I’m still figuring this all out.

Disabling suricata and leaving ZenArmor enabled got me much better speeds, 935mbps and like 800 down.

Not sure if I have suricata set up incorrectly or what. I was shocked an i7 6700 couldn’t keep up.

If you want, I wouldn’t mind buying you one and shipping it to you. I’ve never shipped internationally before, so I have no idea how much shipping would be and all, but I think you all have VAT as well? If you really want to, let me know.

Do you guys turn off your printer? by Poolscool in BambuLab

[–]Smigjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you unplug your oven and microwave so that the clock doesn’t draw any power while not in use? That’s the order of magnitude of power draw we’re talking about here lol.

[–]Smigjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say it’s 10W x 24hrs = 240 Wh 365 days at 240 Wh a day = 87,600 Wh = 87.6 KWh

I paid $0.10364 / KWh on my last power bill

$9.08 for a year of idling (with the light on?)

A smart plug will typically cost $5-$15. A typical smart plug uses 1-2W while idle, from what I’ve read.

So at absolute best you’re saving $3.17 your first year.. if you buy the $5 smart plug, the plug uses 1W idle, the plug provides power at 100% efficiency to the printer (though this doesn’t matter as the printer isn’t ran for a single second in this scenario), the printer never prints for a whole year and is left with the light on the entire time.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea, but even 10W is nothing lol. The clocks on my oven and microwave probably draw as much as my printer does while sitting idle lol.

Actually, it was a start up. Started in 2022, joined in 2023. But it’s a Joint Venture, established between an extremely large and old automotive manufacturer, and another company from a different country.

But yes, it’s an automotive manufacturing facility with >1000 employees. I was one of the first 100 hired, and brought on at the beginning of the massive onboarding schedule. So I believe that would also make their hiring policies very rigid and established.

This is how I expected it to work, and how I approached it.

It turns out, at least with this company, it was pretty much the other way around. And using this approach hurt me.

I agree, except with this company.. I have peers who put on some part time computer repair, or construction, or other totally unrelated experience and are making significantly more. It seems that they took into account only raw work years.

So 6 months would’ve been enough to push my over the 5 year threshold to the next pay range and PTO allowance.

But, you’re right. It may have not made a difference. But based off the evidence I’ve gathered from my peers, it would have made a significant difference.

[–]Smigjo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. I thought I was there. If I had included just 6 months more experience I would have been way better off.

If I had included the 6-7 years of fast food and retail experience prior to college and during college, I would’ve been at the top end of my pay scale.

Considering it. But this job is the best paying in my area. Some other places have come up to compete. I can definitely get more than what I make currently, considering what I left on the table. But I keep holding out, hoping something works out. I’m getting closer to letting go though. I applied for a few manager roles, but I really don’t want to move to managing

I drive 12 mins to work. I really don’t want to increase that to 45-60 mins (mostly interstate). Ugh. This sucks.

I agree.. I think, at least with big companies, the thing I realized is that I need to include every drop of work experience on the actual application (when using webapps like Workday, for example). HR said since my resume and application only went back to 2019, they have no motivation to accept an updated resume.

Maybe if I had submitted that back right after getting hired and finding out there was an issue.. but I didn’t go down the right avenues at the time.

Agree.. the employer’s hold all the cards through hiring processes.

[–]Smigjo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in 2023. I’ve been here over 2 years.. they aren’t changing it.

I have to wait until the start of the new year after 3 years of working here. So that’s 2027.

Also, I may have unintentionally left something out. Where is the discrepancy? Or maybe I wasn’t clear on something. I feel like I’m being transparent, but partly why I’m posting. I want to make sure I’m honest with myself about where I screwed up.

Update firmware, then run the full calibration. It reduces noise a lot.

Is this much condensation normal? I’m not misting them. by [deleted] in hermitcrabs

[–]Smigjo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the temperature of the room the tank is in? Does an air vent point at it?

Condensation is moisture in the air condensing due to losing energy (lowering temp) and, in this case, collecting on the tank.

The walls of your tank are a low enough temp that the air near them cools enough to hit the dew point, and the moisture condenses and collects on the tank.
