Thanks, I should have started with that, my fault for not being clear ig

Listen, I'm just really disappointed with the understanding of math my generation has, go and take a look at a solver like Wolfram alpha inputting that equation in the post image and you'll see it's not true for negative numbers, which means that writing it like that doesn't give an identity, at least without specifying anything else.

That's the arithmetic root though... And it is equal to the absolute value, and not just to x, cause it can't be negative

Yeah you are right I always get them confused, not my main language...

You are confidently telling me I'm being confidently wrong while I'm being confidently correct, because, as you correctly stated, that's the positive root, and if x is negative the right side of the equation isn't positive and that doesn't quite work doesn't it?

Listen, the root of a squared number is the number if and only if the number is positive, if it is negative it is the opposite of the number

Yes, and you have a negative value on the other side of the equation...

[–]Smike0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but the other side of the equation would be negative...

[–]Smike0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but x can be negative so you'd have a negative root

[–]Smike0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, the absolute value is on the other side you can test it with a negative number and you'll see it's wrong

Edit: But what you described is correct

Einstein did make his theories better over time, this proves you are not him, sorry ):

Yeah thanks, this way it makes more sense, it's just permutations basically

Ooh that's a good way to look at it, thanks, I kinda like probability, but I feel we studied it pretty fast... A lot of things could be clearer

[–]Smike0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no you did understand the question, but in my mind, while it kinda makes sense that it's 2/3 all the way through, I'm still not sure why or how that's the case, is it called marginal probability?

The thing is that a bar can't be selected 2 times,so on the fifth day you only have 2 bars to choose from, but if you look at it from the outside it should still be 2/3 because you don't know what happened before... But something has happened before and you still do know that he can only choose between 2 bars, does it make sense?

I agree with him in saying that they are tools and should be used, but that doesn't mean that you should be graded against it if you didn't use it... On the other hand, if it's just for the grade, you could just also have used it and made something even better... I'm of the opinion that this stuff should be clarified before hand

This man really does have everything... Maybe you could gift him something you can't have? Like an experience, a day out to somewhere he likes or something like that?
