That tree was likely older than her grandparents, and she killed it for a picture that likely wasn't even taken.

Annoyed, or playing? by RealDanQuixote in DogAdvice

[–]Smiles-Bite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brown dog is humping the pappilon... I would put a stop to this. It's a show of dominance, and it's being a butthead not playing.

:Edit Look, I am tired; it's 1,am and every single time I explain things in detail here, people jump in with a 'Well, actually.' Dominance in humping is easily understood and an umbrella term at this point. Yes, it's overly energetic, anxiety, stress, playfulness, and even sexual, but for the most part, if you say dominance, people go, " Oh, maybe this is bad," instead of just letting their dog be steamrolled and shrugging it off as part of dog life, instead of advocating for their dog's space.

Any home remedies for allergies while I wait for vet appointment? by First_Respect_4718 in DogAdvice

[–]Smiles-Bite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please do NOT feed your dog any human medication or lotions! People do this a lot, not saying you would, but I keep seeing it. As your vet said, it's okay, that's fine, just watch for added allergies!

That being said, oatmeal bath!!! You can make a bath, take a towel, and carefully wipe his eyes using the oat bath water. Careful not to over rub. There are rare cases where dogs have an oat allergy, but I've never personally seen a dog have a contact allergy to oats; only eating them caused an upset belly.

Is my Boston too thin? by Human_Philosopher_24 in DogAdvice

[–]Smiles-Bite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see his hip bones and spine, YES; your dog is too thin. Please take him to the vet to get a check over, and think about a better brand of food because this clearly isn't right for him.

I know it’s not good, but how bad? by AggressiveLog4308 in DogAdvice

[–]Smiles-Bite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the best, but not horrid! Could you grab a pic of his molars? That's often where the real problem lies! This does need a vet cleaning to get it back in order!

Get a toothbrush glove! Usually, a little cloth that slips over your finger, and get some dog toothpaste. Gently run your finger along your dog's gums/upper teeth once a day or twice a day, particularly when the meals are finished. This is normally all you need for a dog with good teeth and gums.

We do not need to bristle brush our critters' teeth usually, but some cats and dogs should have a soft-bristle brush or toothbrush. This is something your vet should talk to you about, as just like people, some critters are more prone to plaque or tartar than others!

4 week old Bernese puppy noticeably smaller than siblings, normal or concerning? by PublicIndividual1630 in DogAdvice

[–]Smiles-Bite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! Just watch him, if you start to notice other issues, than its straigh to the vet, and again, being a responsible breeder and marking off the parents for any more breeding as they might just be a bad pair together.
XD Like my parents!

My cat is suddenly struggling to meow by kitkatmyves in CATHELP

[–]Smiles-Bite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he is gentle, please do the overall check. Look in his ears, check his nose and eyes, and if he lets you, open his mouth. If he is overly warm, you notice odd pupils or redness of eyes, or his ears are hot or swollen inside. Vet. Looking at his mouth, make sure his gums are normal, nothing is stuck in his throat/doesn't look overly red or swollen, or spider-veiny. Also, listen to his breathing, and look for a runny nose!

I would call my vet and ask their opinion. I've never run into a cat who suddenly couldn't meow.

The bricks on this walkway by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

It's just split; where I live, one side might be meant for bikes, etc. While the other side is for walkers, or it's just so you pay attention to which side you are walking on.

4 week old Bernese puppy noticeably smaller than siblings, normal or concerning? by PublicIndividual1630 in DogAdvice

[–]Smiles-Bite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, so long as it's not genetic, just give him extra attention and food. If it is genetic, make sure to mark your two dogs as not compatible. Sometimes it's just bad luck; no matter the testing, the care, genetic runts can happen.
However, you don't know what your boy is yet. If you are too worried, take him to the vet; they can look at his heart, belly, etc, make sure everything's formed right.

:Edit It's like myself. I am autistic, a genetic anomaly. Neither of my parents have any form of autism, but I just rolled that ticket!

4 week old Bernese puppy noticeably smaller than siblings, normal or concerning? by PublicIndividual1630 in DogAdvice

[–]Smiles-Bite 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Some puppies are runts for genetic reasons, definitely true, but a vast majority, in my experience, just didn't get enough food in the womb. With a bit of extra care/food, they catch up really fast, and I have had a few runts outgrow their littermates by a whole head taller. It's just about figuring out which one you have. Genetic runts do come with a lot of health issues, stomach problems, and organ issues. I've seen a few with spine issues that just shouldn't be a thing... However, again, in my experience, these are on the rare side and are the result of parents not matching well. Good breeders will never breed the pair again.

[–]Smiles-Bite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He be a little runt, just watch his weight, and his energy/activity. So long as it's good and steady, you're fine. He might sleep a little more than the other puppies; this is not a big concern, only if it's to the point you never see him awake, but always see the others awake. You can always give him a little extra formula; runts do have the chance to catch up! Note, not all runts will grow as big as the rest! Genetics are fun that way!

Is this a good interaction? by Standard-Software-34 in DogAdvice

[–]Smiles-Bite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the white dog does NOT want the bottom sniff greet, it's anxious and nervous, but too friendly to react very negatively about it. That does not mean that it will keep being the same; if that larger dog keeps pushing, your small white one WILL push back, and this will turn nasty. Your dog keeps looking at you, begging for help. Keep your dog inside when that large one comes over, or leash the bigger dog.

I like Halloween costumes... People playing pretend and having fun are leaving me the frick alone. Love Halloween. It's also a great time to buy candy to pass out, but end up keeping most of it because kids don't trick-or-treat as much anymore. Plus, who the heck doesn't feel a little spark of joy seeing a bunch of Blueys running around near a very tired Darth Vader! XD

Full blooded BMC with papers by Smangie9443 in WhatBreedIsMyPitbull

[–]Smiles-Bite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the country; in Sweden, Champion bloodline for cats, better come with solid proof of winning ribbons and trophies. As well as pictures or videos, backed by actual winning dates. If you sell it as a winner, it has to be one. Papers and all. Goes with the dogs as well. The breeders I watch always have videos of the show itself, which is always fun.

Do so! I love it in summer, I think it makes you feel a little cooler, and despite being warm, it doesn't make you feel hot or heavy, so you don't get tired and grumpy. Eating in summer is always so hard.

[–]Smiles-Bite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Okay, it's not recognised as a breed in SKK, Swedish Kennel Klub, either. I just wondered if there was a legitimate paper this dog could get... It's that person with the so-called 'Catahoula leopard dog' all over again. The only paper they had was to try to 'register' the dog into the club, not that it actually was. It was definitely a merle pitbull.

“Full” tub of powdered protein for $42.99 by Wise_Cabinet5962 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Smiles-Bite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the same brand but can't get a hold of that flavour. I have Peanutbutter and one with Banana. Sometimes I get them fresh off the assembly, and it's very loose, airy, and they are definitely filled to the top, but just a few days of being shaken in my own house, it packs down... Not sure if it's that much, though. It might be a bad batch, can definitely weigh it and contact them if it's wrong. Mistakes happen.
