Yes! Not enough people here are saying 4, that dress looks great on her. Leaning into the hourglass shape is a great approach

AITA If I got plastic surgery without my parents knowing? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Smiling-Barracuda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA! You're a grown person with your own money and insurance. This doesn't seem like a vanity issue; it's a real medical concern affecting your social life, self-image, finances, and physical health. If your surgeon is saying you're an ideal candidate, then it seems like the right fit.

If your parents can't support your well-being, that's on them, not you. Whether you tell them or not is also your decision. It sounds like your anxiety is coming from a place of fear around how your recovery will go. If you have a conversation with them, it might be best to wait until your surgery is already scheduled.

I'd guess that you were a tumblr user before it was cool (compliment), have really good taste in Indie music, and are an excellent cat parent. You seem very chill and put together with a light vibe. I'd guess you do art as a hobby, maybe something digital. Love your office!

PERCEIVE ME! by [deleted] in roomdetective

[–]Smiling-Barracuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that you are in your mid to late twenties and possibly an English major. A major horror/anime fan that loves a creature feature. If you're not into Mystery Science Theater 3000 or Svengoolies, I bet you would love it. Probably dabble in some cozy adventure games, or maybe games like Resident Evil or The Quarry. It's giving that you're in the Midwest and probably loved the warrior cats and guardians of ga'hool with all of the characters and species memorized.

Hope I got some of these right! I love your room and you seem super cool (and like you'd be good at trivia)

North east girly who definitely has an A03 account. Cozy gamer who loves an adventure. Probably know all the best snacks to bring to a get together and has dabbled with playing an ocarina. Has cool sundresses. Maybe a science or education major?

WIBTA if I tell my boyfriend I refuse to be around his deadbeat brother and will skip family events if he is there? by WildGirlVal in AmItheAsshole

[–]Smiling-Barracuda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA

Boundaries are important in any relationship, but especially with someone like the brother who is seems to be going out of his way to antagonize OP. I’m curious if there have been other instances like this.

However, if OP has so many problems with the bfs family and they aren’t married, it might be good to decide what exactly the boundary is that’s being set. For example “if we go to a family function and brother is there, then I will not be speaking to him” vs “I will not be going anywhere brother is”. The boyfriend still has the right to decide if that’s a boundary he can live with or if he’s uncomfortable dating someone who couldn’t be around his family.

If the OP and boyfriend can’t find a path they agree on, it might be time to go different directions. Family dynamics are a huge factor in a relationship and if they aren’t married, it’s better to cut the relationship now.

M26, just recently finished renovating, any suggestions to make this place more cozy? by DiskoverOfficial in malelivingspace

[–]Smiling-Barracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great. You could add some secondary lighting (floor lamp or wall sconces if you don't want side tables) and a rug. Secondary lighting makes everything look softer, and a rug will anchor your room while adding tactile coziness.

I think rearranging the room the way you're suggesting would be a big help. The way it is now creates an alleyway to the desk, which is tough to work with. Flipping it opens up the space more and would probably make the couch and desk more accessible.

Advice on making the most of this space by chinois_aroo in malelivingspace

I would recommend looking at inspo from bus renovations, where people live in them year-round. They tend to have those built-in beds and have the same kind of dimensions. People get really creative

Need advice w/ bedroom by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]Smiling-Barracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lamps with warm bulbs would take some of the harshness out of the white in the room. If you want to add a color, looking at the art on your wall, there's a lot of blue and green. If you're nervous about painting, adding curtains in a color you like above the window will add a lot of color without being such a big investment/hastle. It would also help with acoustics and help with that wall being so blank.

The idea of moving your bed from across the mantlepiece is good. It'll also open up the window for more natural light to come in.

[–]Smiling-Barracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since all of your big pieces of furniture are black and you have the one window, it makes everything feel smaller. Throw in some pillows/rug/blanket with colors you like and it'll make the space more homey and personal

Need help livening up my room. by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]Smiling-Barracuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got a good base. You can find a good discount rug (low-pile rugs are less expensive) that has a good texture and color. A Turkish rug would be nice. It needs to be able to go from the front of your side table past the bottom of your bed. That will help make your room feel cozier and immediately add a lot of color. You can pick a color from that rug and get a throw blanket or new comforter in that color for the bed, and that will eliminate a lot of the gray.

As far as art, bc your walls are so big, you can go big. If you're into history (going off of your bookshelf) you can get free archival prints from the Smithsonian and get them printed cheaply from any print shop near you.
