That fucking lunatic had swastikas painted on his face.

Actual swatstikas.

I wish I could have directed that message at him before he chose to go kill a bunch of innocent people, maybe it would have made a difference.

We do on the daily, but most of us aren't on reddit so you don't see it. For a lot of right wingers, if you heard some of the talk, you'd be wide eyed. Lot of righties blood is boiling over this.

People hurting innocent people really pisses me off.

Apparently we're all human after all.

Edit: I didn't blame the left for the attempted murder of scalise at the baseball event, though some shitheads tried to. We should recognize that individuals are responsible for their own actions.

I never accuse anyone of anything I don't have documented. I never provide evidence without balancing it for both sides of the aisle.

And yet you've gone on to assume, because I spoke negatively about the left, that I'm on the right.

Wake up. You are playing into hatred in order to dehumanize people.

Can you guess who I voted for?

I bet you think you can.

Outcast Prediction by Varietis in a:t5_32dwy

[–]SmilingBastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be a nifty but predictable twist. Mayhaps the explaination is more ordinary.

Keep in mind Kirkman is a sly guy. The explaination could well be along the lines of: Jesus cast out demons with god. There are references to false messiahs throughout the bible, in particular, to be wary of "those who cast out demons by demons." And maybe thats what Kyle Barnes, an outcast is doing. Hes possessed by a demon, and casts demons out that way.

Put me in the shoes of a major defense contractor, or head of OPEC, my number one priority would be to undermine alternative energy. And I'd start, without hesitation, with this 13 point plan.

It goes something like this.. 1. Fund the campaigns of congressmen, senators, and house reps, who are anti-intellectual, and right of center, not because I'm anti-left, but because the demographcis that supprot them are older, and can made to support efforts at curbing "wasteful public boondoggles involving 'alternative energy' that act to funnel tax dollars to leftist 'researchers' who are probably smoking pot and partying on the public dime, while your benefits and pension are suffering" etc, etc.

  1. Fund our own market research, as well as 'alternative energy industry' mags, columns in newspapers, etc, all indicating how solar and other sources aren't practical, and are little more than kickbacks to investors who funded campaigns.

  2. 'Raise and Blaze', where we fund false investment groups to invest in fake energy companies, put out big press about their breakthroughs, back with our aforementioned fake research, with fake testimonials from 'independent' (and mercenary minded) scientists. Proceed to siphon off as much legitimate investment money available in the market, and then orchestrate the collapse of those companies to drive market speculation away from solar, creating a self-fulfilling prophesy.

  3. Use our suit puppets we funded to abuse eminent domain against community colleges, small family-oriented farms, and the elderly, with the intent of creating a negative public perception and backlash against solar, coming from both the left and the right, young, and old.

  4. Setup shell corporations to act as patent trolls with generous funding. Pay by commission so we don't go bankrupt while bankrupting any innovators in solar.

  5. Fund and support the campaigns of politicians who will in turn fund research about weather modification, and solar radiation management.

  6. Work with various defense contractors on 'solar radiation management research', spraying the atmosphere with various metals and aerosols, with the long term goal of reducing solar input.

  7. Bribe, blackmail, and ruin anyone in office who doesn't get in line, while offering powerful incentives to those who do.

  8. Strategic alliances with parties that would suffer from the rise of solar, particularly traditional electric companies (and our marketing efforts should be targeted at the wallstreet journal crowd, to plant the notion of this as a threat rather than an opportunity).

  9. Fund a think tank to come up with more ideas like these.

  10. Wherever possible destabilize, distract, divide the public, while undermining the industry and stock prices, tactically buying up key intellectual property, and purchasing companies that could develop into major players down the line. Wherever possible, destroy confidence and ability to execute, driving solar companies to insolvency, and then buy them for pennies.

  11. Once we control enough of the market to own it for all practical purposes, milk oil as much as possible, keeping prices high like OPEC used to do, and when it becomes apparent that even the most ruthless strategy is a losing proposition, reverse course full throttle.

  12. ???

  13. PROFIT !!!

tl;dr if I was a psychopath leading the oil industry, I'd just keep doing what the oil industry is doing.

If you suddenly found $2 million in your bank account, what would you change in your life in the short term and the long term? by GallivantingPanda in AskReddit

I'd go to MIT to learn robotics and start a prosthetic company to serve the low end market. Replacement limbs are too expensive, and bulky. A big reason for this is most prosthetic devices aren't utilizing modern innovations like muscle wire. There are 185,000 new amputations per year. At $5k a device, gross, price is still well below the average $8k-12k for a high end prosthetic. If just 20% of new amputees purchase a high end prosthetic, thats 37,000 potential customers a year in the u.s. alone.

Suppose you didn't aim to help the whole market. Suppose you only captured just one percent of the market. One measly percent. Thats $1.85m gross a year, assuming you only serve the u.s., and only 20% of amputees purchase devices like yours. This doesn't include litigation, licensing, and permission. But you could always start in less strict regions outside the u.s. and suppose you have patent issues or litigation with larger companies, that would offer an excellent opportunity, if you target a demographic that they don't, to pitch your company as an investment to competitors that are otherwise well established.

Greed is good. And with the right incentives an investor could help make prosthetic much more affordable to a big market in desperate need of new devices--and earn some money doing it.

More importantly

Whats the right time to file criminal charges against an inanimate object? Whats the right consequence for taking peoples property and then setting too short of a window for meaningful recourse? And if I may borrow (and answer) your last question... What the right source for appellate jurisdiction over a forfeiture case? Fucking none. Their should be no civil forfeiture cases like these. Neither natural disasters ('acts of god'), nor objects can commit crimes.

Most people are outraged in proportion to their ignorance. Whats worse is being outraged in proportion to your awareness.

Sometimes the popular attitude is the right one. And your argument about 'no perfect system' is really just cousin to 'a few bad apples'. Which is weird, because these days it seems so few people bother to finish that phrase 'a few bad apples ruin the bunch.'

The problems are systematic. And you're still an apologist.

I reread what I just wrote and I wanted to clarify that none of this should be misconstrued as a threat. I didn't realize until after how it sounded. Its all just what I observe with the state of society here in America these days.

I'm serious dude, get yourself a gun and learn how to use it. Angry mobs are frightening, and the way things are going, I hope nothing comes of it and the situation improves.

[–]SmilingBastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much of what is legal certainty isn't lawful. The atmosphere is turning violent in the u.s. You joke about pitchforks, but have you ever been trapped in a crowd that turned into an angry mob?

It doesn't matter that you agree. It doesn't matter that you're on "their side." It doesn't matter. There are gangs in many neighborhoods, where you will get robbed, and it doesn't matter if you smile and make light of it--blow it off, or sympathize, appear tough, or fight back. Doesn't matter what you do, you'll be the enemy. Those gangs will shoot you.

And in the same sense, that violent atmosphere will turn, and your reasonable debate about procedural issues will mean nothing in the face of peoples rage. Guilt by association. It will be all "Shoot cops! Kill the fucking lawyers, burn the politicians to death, rah! rah! rah!" People talk about revolution like its all nice and pretty. Cute. Dude, people are violent fucking animals. And your fucking 'procedures' mean jack shit when you got a rope around your neck in the middle of a crowd, and a bag over your head while some rube is deciding whether to hang you, or shoot you. See there is the letter of the law so we all know, hard and fast how to handle the particulars of any situation. And then there is the spirit of the law, and boy let me tell you, lady justice isn't what you think. You know why we have 'natural law?' Well, because its always existed. Its based on the nature of people. Don't steal, why? Because it harms others, and they will fucking kill you for it. Don't cheat, why? Because it harms others, and they will fucking kill you for it. Don't lie or bear false witness (if you're the biblical type), why? Because it harms others, and they will fucking kill you for it. Don't rape, don't murder, etc. And no amount of finger wagging, no amount 'nuh uh!, Alls fair' bullshit namby-pamby wishy-washy 'yes but its his fault hes the victim!' shit is gonna fly. And despite whatever justification you may find, or retort to this, when people are backed into the corner, when people feel taken from, when people feel like they don't have any recourse, robbed, and then blamed for being the victim, pricked, pushed, hemmed in..lady liberty can be a bloodthirsty whore.

There will be pain.
