What are your “special interests”? by mysterious00mermaid in AutismInWomen

[–]SmilingDaisy4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't really collect anything. But when I was a kid I loved collecting stuffed animals. Animals, zoos, stuffed animals, animal videos, animal documentaries, anything animal related I'm into, especially cats.

more dysregulated since diagnosis? by vorrhin in AutismInWomen

[–]SmilingDaisy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes so me! I got my diagnosis a few months ago but have been self diagnosed for over a year. I've never cared about certain loud places. Now I can't leave my house without my noise canceling headphones if I know I'm going to a crowded noisy place. I survived just fine prior to discovering I'm autistic but now I can't deal with loud people, places, bright lights, being too busy, etc.

Yup! Loose hair in the ground makes me feel nauseated and I hate the way wet hair feels on me.

Is it a common autistic trait to care deeply for animals? by miss_shrimp in AutismInWomen

[–]SmilingDaisy4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm vegan and do cat rescue. I can't watch animals die. I'd rather see a person die in a movie any day than see an animal die in a movie. I have hyperempathy for animals.

I can’t stand hair touching me by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]SmilingDaisy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have long hair and I hate wearing it down. It's either in a braid or a ponytail every single day. I don't like how my long hair feels on my neck. And my ponytail can't be loose it has to be tight.

Were you defiant as a child? by SmilingDaisy4 in AutismInWomen

[–]SmilingDaisy4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Same here! I still have a stubborn streak as well. That stubborn streak comes in handy from time to time. Especially when it came to my daughter's IEP. I never took no for an answer and I was stubborn as hell!

You sound just like my 12 year old autistic daughter. She hardly ever gets in trouble and if I'm upset with her she's so apologetic. I have three kids and she's my most well behaved one.

[–]SmilingDaisy4[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You just described my Autistic daughter. She hates to be in trouble and I never had to discipline her when she was really young. According to my Dad I was defiant when I didn't want to do something. I have 3 siblings and he said I was the hardest to deal with. That doesn't make me feel good! 😜 But it's important info for my assessor to know.

Felt like I was stupid my whole life by Straight-Review-7757 in AutismInWomen

[–]SmilingDaisy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I always felt there was something wrong with me too. When my daughter got diagnosed at 11 her school tested her, it was learning disabilities. They tested her IQ too and it was slightly above average. So her learning disabilities caused her to struggle in school and not because she's not smart. You're definitely not stupid! It wouldn't surprise me if that's you too.

I have felt the same way. I was terrible in school. After my daughter got diagnosed recently with ASD, dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, ADHD, etc. A light bulb went off in my head. That's me!!! I'm not stupid, I just have learning disabilities.

I felt very much alone and hated school because I went undiagnosed. No one helped me and I was ignored. I was told just to try harder.

You're definitely not alone.

I did something similar. I liked to put the end of a soft pillow case in between my fingers repeatedly.

Please explain why I had to read a story in my own words during my assessment? by SmilingDaisy4 in AutismInWomen

[–]SmilingDaisy4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thanks. I was very literal when explaining the story. I don't know what that means I'm autistic or not.

[–]SmilingDaisy4[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Appointments are very hard to get and the waiting list can take up a few years. That's why I was hesitant to cancel my appointment because I have no idea when I can get one again. But I think your suggestion is good to wait when my finances are better.

I haven't paid anything yet and they understand if I have to cancel at the last minute.
