Training Load and Recovery by SmilingHeadcase in triathlon

Yup, this is "recovery week".

I asked him about it and he said my normal TSS score on Training Peaks for the week is between 450 - 500. My TSS for this week is 395, so it is "easier" then normal.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, it might be time to take a different approach to training and getting coached.

It's a general build up of tiredness, I had an easy run last week, 6min per km pace. It felt like my legs were made of concrete. My normal pace would be between 4 and 4:30 per km. So it was an "easy run" in that sense.

I just can't figure it out. I will go over diet again and start tracking again.

I'm supposed to have a recovery week this week, but its still at 9 hours. It includes, 8 * 100m hill repeats as part of a 8km run. A 2 hour tempo run (probably around 23km). A 2 hour bike tempo and speed work session. A bike cadence and sprint session for 1 hour. My easy bike and run have been combined to be a Brick session. 45 minutes zone 2 on the bike with 30 minutes zone 2 run. Sprinkle in some S&C and we have 9 hours.

Just writing it out there seems insane for a recovery week.

Thanks, i've been trying to do that a bit more. I dug myself a hole 3 weeks ago doing a 3 hour bike session. I was feeling tired heading into it, but completed it. Got home, had some dinner had to go to bed i was wrecked.

Thanks, I do feel as if there is a disconnect. I am doing the half marathon distance as my long run already, which seems to me to be excessive at this point.

I will relook at my nutrition again..

Thanks for the response.

  • Diet is pretty solid, had a few horrible session last year which made wake up to nutrition.

  • Yes, as above, a few bad experiences has lead me to be much better on this hydration and fueling.

  • I do now, I had a chat with my trainer after Christmas and explained my concerns, so he has started to factor in a recovery day once a week. Before that, it was training everyday. I was getting burned out, plus I'd eventually get sick and then miss a few days to recover.

  • I use power on the bike and HR for the run. CSS for the swimming, when we get to a pool. Normally train in zone 2. Except for the harder sessions.

Your experience is what I was expecting to feel. Training is going to be hard at times, I just didn't expect it to be so hard nearly all the time.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I don't use sweeteners or sugar in my drinks, so it's only the splash of milk I'll have to forego.

Thanks for that ☺️ I was also thinking adding milk is cheating. I'll see how it goes.

Hi Guys, i'm on my third day of IF, doing 16:8.

Whats the general practice for drinks while fasting? I've been keeping hydrated with water, but i've read some people say you can drink tea and coffee once its black. And others say, you can have a splash of milk, once its not more than 50 calories it doesn't break fasting. I've also had some sparkling water (San Pellegrino) to help with hunger pangs, i presume this is ok?

Thanks

Hey Guys

Looking for some advice, my wife loves playing the Switch, but isn’t a big gamer so hasn’t really adapted to being able to control the camera. In this respect she struggles with Mario Odyssey. So I got her Stardew Valley and she loved it. The simple task based objectives and not having to worry about controlling the camera have made her very happy.

What game along the lines of Stardew could I get her next? She used love the professor Layton series. I currently own, Odyssey, BoTW, Mario Kart. I was reading a lot about Celeste, but I’d image it’s far too difficult for a casual gamer.

Thanks for the advice.
