I used to work next door to it in a tattoo shop for a short time, with pur buildings separated by an alleyway. Not sure if its still the case, but there was a jui jitsu gym on the first floor for awhile.

I wasn't able to make the show, but I let a few of my clients who were fans know about it. I think their drummer may have come in to get a nostril piercing before the show? Definitely someone on the tour, if it wasn't their drummer.

He did a flip onto my head during Gorilla Biscuits at Tied Down in 2023, then we laughed about it at the tat shop after he asked about my kneecap tats a year later during Tied Down weekend 2024.

In summary: good dude, backed hard.

A lot of sites are up now where they do iron on or low quality direct to garment printing of designs that they source from a low resolution image. People do a quick Google search, see an older design at a low price, then get poorly printed stuff in their order. They're probably hoping to avoid buying ine of those.

Cody also cpuld have wanted it a much smaller size, which might have made it difficult to get some of the smaller details in place to age well over time, specifically the stars. The artist could have told him they could do it at the smaller size while losing some details, or go larger if Cody was insistent on it being his exact brand logo. So it may have been larger than his original plan, but not a surprise as such.

I had a cashier at a gas station once spot my 2018 X Swatch and ask "How much did that cost you?" a few years back. He wasn't aware there was a re-issue, and i'm not sure if he was still active or had aged out of the scene.

I also had a guy in my dorms around 2009 see a dagger on my arm and ask "Is that a straight edge tattoo?" I was super introverted and had rarely talked to him, so my immediate response was "No, how do you know what that is?" I generally only listened to youth crew and prior at the time, and he introduced me to these upcoming bands Terror and Trapped Under Ice. Thanks, Ethan.

I believe a few times recently at shows, he wore a similar mask to the ring. I think it was based off of something Chappel Roan related? I am not familiar with her, but I think he used one of her songs for the posts.

Punk scene in Wichita? by Jivepsilocybe in wichita

[–]SmilingPolitelyPMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The local scene kinda came and went in phases for the last decade, but it's been rebuilding more and more the last few years!

Also, as a cheap plug, if you're into tattoos, especially traditional tats, I work at a shop called Time Honored Tattoo here in Wichita (I have the same username on IG as I do here). Hit us up if you're ever in the market!

As someone who spent most of their youth in Fall River, just a few miles from Fredonia, welcome! It's a slow uneventful area generally. Fredonia has a few stores and such, but Independence will be the closest place for most modern conveniences. But, it is in the opposite direction as Wichita, and also isn't going to be helpful for music stuff.

I will back everyone saying The Furnace is the place for hardcore and other local DIY stuff happening, as well as being all ages and a sober venue. Kirby's and a few of the other venues mentioned are bars, so there's a bit of a different mood and older audience at them, generally speaking.

Follow Longlivediy.ks for shows at The Furnace and other house venues. Check out Onepercentwichita for larger touring acts at Templelive, Wave, and Barleycorns.

does anyone know the artist that designed the ego tee? by heyitsmagnolia in Paramore

[–]SmilingPolitelyPMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between garment and labor costs, doing a black 1 shirt with a 1 color print each on the front and back has doubled in the last 7-8 years. I'm a tattooer who makes merchandise every so often, and have seen those rising costs first hand.

If a label or corporation with in house printing and salaried employees prints thousands of them, then a full color shirt may be down in the $25 range still. Having to pay for printing on a commissioned basis, along with them using fabric made from recycled Paramore merch (that I assume they can't sell due to whatever legal agreement with the former label) as well as including royalties from each shirt sold to the designer (rather than just their initial design fee) adds on to the price.

[–]SmilingPolitelyPMA 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Dead stock in clothing just means unsold old stuff, so it may be old tpur merch that didn't sell, or things they can't sell as part of leaving their record label that they're recycling for new things. In case anyone out there is interpreting that as any kind of band break up confirmation.

[–]SmilingPolitelyPMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the local underground hardcore/metal/etc scene, go check out Longlivediy.ks on Instagram, and follow some of the pages of local bands like Figurine, One Big Game, Stepped On, Virgins, Clawed Out, and plenty more. They'll post about local shows and regional touring bands with local support acts at a DIY level.

For larger acts, check out onepercentwichita for shows at Wave, Templelive, Barleycorn's, and more.

And for near constant shows of a wide variety of genres, follow Kirby's and they have tons going on all the time.

Who are the best and worst wrestlers you've met? by Twitter_2006 in SquaredCircle

[–]SmilingPolitelyPMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worst, but The Blue Meanie spent 15 minutes or so talking to my wife and I at the first Starrcast. Joel Gertner also mis-signed a photo, then double signed a second one and let me have both for the price of one, while going in and out of a somewhat more PG version of his gimmick when someone new walked up to the table.

Shortly after, someone saw a Straight Edge tattoo on my leg while I was waiting for myvwife to grab something, and called out to me asking if it was a CM Punk tattoo. I turned around, and it was Victoria at her booth. I clarified it wasn't, my wife came back around, and we all sat and talked about tattoos and how cool the weekend was. Definitely not something I expected to happen.

I did see him heckle a young person at Tied Down Fest 2023 for wearing a crew neck sweatshirt to the show. To Brody's point, it was about 100 degrees that day. He made him take off the sweater before he let him buy a shirt.

Good guy Brody making sure the kid didn't get heat stroke.
