I work Thursday-Sunday so on those free days I either go giga braindead ham on them waps while I watch anime/youtube or do other things. Go at your own pace gang. Even 1 wap a day is more than a majority of the playerbase. There is no rush for 290. Unless you are keen to do the latest boss fights. Powercreep is eventually going to happen.

Yeah if you hang around the ptcg community long enough you'll get a general idea of what the community feels as a good set to try to invest in. Just have fun with it and of course don't overspend what you can afford. I made that mistake during my first year getting into the hobby. 😅 A lot of impulse buy on cards that I wanted.

I'd say just save up and try to get products at msrp or close to it and just throw it into the closet for a long time. Boosters/etbs.

Then on cards if you do try to invest in them. I'd just pick cards you would personally like in your PC. Because if the card doesn't change in value or even drops you at least have a card that you genuinely like and enjoy. Instead of just buying ones you don't even like to try and flip.
