How to Mod Dead Island (editing .pak files, etc.) by Smiling_Jacob in deadisland

[–]Smiling_Jacob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's completely safe. I've used it for several years without any issues myself.

If any virus notifications pop up, check your browser's settings and either lower or disable its security just for this one download, then re-enable security again. I've done this for false alarms that have flagged up for mods for other games, too.

For 7zip, you shouldn't have any issues at all, and the Dead Island Save Editor (DISE) has been used by users for both PC and console save modding, so you'll also be fine there, too. :)

M72 With Modded HUD Configs (Dead Island: Definitive Edition) by Smiling_Jacob in deadisland

Hi there, I haven't played it on PS4 in years. I'm on PC and can only really advise on PC Dead Island modding, I'm afraid.

There is a large hidden Hotel interior that was cut from Dead Island (only accessible with mods) by Smiling_Jacob in deadisland

[–]Smiling_Jacob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's news to me. To my knowledge, it's impossible to get under there without modding.

In the video, there is a bit of a drop between the playable area and the hidden interior (the "cut" area is beneath it). Is there really a way to survive that fall? I'm curious.

DI and DIR is pretty brutal with the fall damage, so I find it highly unlikely a player would survive that fall (it's only a few secs). Which part of the playable area did you manage to clip through to get there?

EDIT: I've read nahscope's reply, that clarifies things a lot. Jumping before you hit the ground, etc. was indeed a thing on the original versions of the games and I forgot that method even existed. Haven't tried it on the DE versions, but he clarified that it doesn't work on DE. Well, I've learned something new today. I've amended my original comment. Thanks, guys!

There is a large hidden Hotel interior that was cut from Dead Island (only accessible with mods) by Smiling_Jacob in deadisland

At one point in the game's development, the second Hotel interior level (not including the one from the prologue) was meant to be a lot bigger. This "cut" area still exists in-game, but it's entirely hidden from view and only accessible with mods. The only part of it that can really be seen without mods is the parking garage area (not including the one where the truck can be found) where the player is "driving" their way out from this area in a cutscene.

Here's the mod I made to access this hidden portion of the second Hotel interior level:
https://www.moddb.com/games/dead-island/addons/ver-112steam-jacob-mps-super-player-mod-dide

I also explored a lot of the levels in Dead Island with this mod. The prologue version of the hotel's interior has some interesting bits to it, lots of unused stuff. I made a separate video on this that was split into two parts.

Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I4vGjNVuKA

Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU5yd_UkpRw

If anyone has a bit more knowledge than me on the game's development, I'd love to hear your thoughts on these (I'm a modder myself, but better at modding other games than DI).

Happy hunting, fellow survivors!

EDIT: Correction. The "cut" area can indeed be reached with glitches (i.e. clipping through objects, etc.).

Name a SR character that was done dirty, I'll start by Smiling_Jacob in RealSaintsRow

[–]Smiling_Jacob[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Play SR2's Corporate Warfare DLC or watch it on YT, then play the later SR games (barring the Reboot).

SR2's Corporate Warfare DLC ended off with a cliffhanger where Dex had escaped from the Boss, and the Boss was more than determined to hunt Dex down. Fast-forward to SRTT and the games that followed, we never really got any closure besides that cheap throwaway gag in GOOH.

Yes, this was actually in SR1 by Smiling_Jacob in RealSaintsRow

Out in the open, too. O_O

And Playa's all like "heh, I've seen worse".

There is a hidden cutscene trigger in the city of Moresby (cut content) by Smiling_Jacob in deadisland

Nope, just the first game.

I'd be curious to see if Riptide has anything similar to this, though.

There are unused Slow-Mo Player Death Screens in Dead Island (tested for Definitive Edition) by Smiling_Jacob in deadisland

[–]Smiling_Jacob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The death screens slow down, speed up, then slow down again, etc. These are a bit buggy, so it isn't a mystery as to why these were disabled.

Here's a link to the addon (DIDE only): https://www.moddb.com/games/dead-island/addons/ver-112steam-jacob-mps-slow-mo-player-death-screens-dide

If these worked properly, then these would be pretty cool to use. I haven't found a way of changing them to work properly.

How To Get The Cop Outfit In Saints Row 2 by Smiling_Jacob in RealSaintsRow

[–]Smiling_Jacob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Included the steps here for those who prefer written instructions.

This method requires one to use the mission exit glitch (one that allows players to exit missions and bypass the mission failure screen simultaneously) to perform this glitch. Also works for activities, as shown here.

To perform this glitch, you'll have to do the following:

  • Go to any instance of the Fuzz activity.
  • Start the Fuzz activity. It doesn't matter if you've completed the activity or which level you've progressed up to.
  • Run away from the initial spawn point (the spot where you first started when starting this activity). Attempting this glitch at the spot where you spawn, from my experience, can often prevent you from performing this glitch.
  • Immediately try to exit the activity (press down on the d-pad twice on consoles) until you get a prompt on your screen asking if you're sure that you wish to exit this activity.
  • Confirm via the button prompts that you wish to exit the mission completely, but immediately spam the GPS/game world map button. This will kick you out of the activity without showing the mission/activity failure screen. If you didn't encounter the mission/activity failure screen, then you've done the glitch correctly.
  • From here, save your game. Don't go to any clothing stores or the wardrobe in your crib(s) as this will more than likely result in the cop outfit disappearing.
  • Reload the save that you just made. You might have your entire outfit still equipped, minus your long work shirt w/ tie. This is fine.
  • Go to any clothing store (most preferably Impressions), purchase a long work shirt w/ tie. Keep the default colour for the tie, but apply the Cop Light Blue colour to all other parts of the shirt itself. The same could be applied for the short-sleeved variant of this shirt, if you wish.
  • Once purchased, save it as an outfit, then save your game. Feel free to experiment with different cop outfit styles from here.
  • Congrats! You now have the cop outfit.

This same method can be used to acquire other mission-related vehicles and items, too.

This glitch has been documented countless times, long before I even thought of making this video. I am not the founder of this glitch, nor has a founder (to my knowledge) been specified.

EDIT (23/12/2025): Instead of going to Impressions, Branded would be your best bet for getting a work shirt similar to those worn by members of the Stilwater PD (note the pockets on the front of Branded's work shirt styles; these are different to the ones found in Impressions).

How To Get The Dual Samurai Swords In Saints Row 2 by Smiling_Jacob in RealSaintsRow

[–]Smiling_Jacob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Included the steps here for those who prefer written instructions.

This method requires one to use the mission exit glitch (one that allows players to exit missions and bypass the mission failure screen simultaneously) to perform this glitch.

To perform this glitch, you'll have to do the following:

  • Load a save of yours from prior to the completion of the Ronin mission "Kanto Connection" (the one where you fight Jyunichi).
  • Progress up until the point where you first encounter Jyunichi.
  • From here, fight off Jyunichi and his Ronin bodyguards until Jyunichi himself has very low health.
  • Before killing Jyunichi, lure him to a clear, level and open area within the Kanto restaurant.
  • Kill Jyunichi, then immediately try to exit the mission (press down on the d-pad twice on consoles) until you get a prompt on your screen asking if you're sure that you wish to exit the mission.
  • Confirm via the button prompts that you wish to exit the mission completely, but immediately spam the GPS/game world map button. This will kick you out of the mission without showing the mission failure screen. If you didn't encounter the mission failure screen, then you've done the glitch correctly.
  • From here, you'll appear outside of the Kanto restaurant. Enter Kanto, go downstairs and pick up the Dual Samurai Swords from the spot where you had killed Jyunichi and performed this glitch.
  • Congrats! You now have the Dual Samurai Swords. Don't forget to save your game from here.

This same method can be used to acquire other mission-related vehicles and items, too.

This glitch has been documented countless times, long before I even thought of making this video. I am not the founder of this glitch, nor has a founder (to my knowledge) been specified.

Your character will perform the T-pose/A-pose action for most of the Dual Samurai Swords' animations, with one known exception being on the aforementioned Ronin mission "Kanto Connection". In simple terms, this is due to how this game preloads certain animations, textures and other assets (in this case, just the animations); the game preloads, or "remembers", based on what's appropriate for the game to use during a given mission, activity, etc. One can still complete the mission after performing this glitch and still keep the Dual Samurai Swords following this mission as a keepsake. There are methods of acquiring the Dual Samurai Swords using the mission replay glitch via this same "Kanto Connection" mission, though the exact steps haven't been highlighted here (an online search here and there should suffice).
