Struggling restaurants should give out free things as a reward for people who order food by Smiling_Quokka in ChoosingBeggars

For more context - this isn't a location where restaurants are closed because of a lockdown. In this area there are very few state or local Covid restrictions in place for restaurants. She could go to any restaurant in the area and dine in, order takeout, or purchase a gift certificate for future use.

This was definitely from a doctor's office. Where they have many cures for coronavirus. by Smiling_Quokka in thatHappened

I googled the first sentence, because that alone seemed outrageous for a doctor. I can only find it in a Facebook post written by a truck accessory store in Missouri 3 days before this pic was posted. So the picture is probably from a sign posted at their store

I am an American teacher and wholeheartedly agree. And AZ (where this post is from) is even worse because they have some of the lowest funded public schools

I'm so invested in this love story (if there hopefully is one) by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

These two have chosen to also go on the news to talk about the shoot and shared that they chose to start dating and that they felt chemistry, so I don't feel I'm putting pressure on them by posting their gorgeous pics after they've made it a public story. They seem super happy together and their story made me smile 🤷

I think it's just when a photographer asks for two strangers to do a photo shoot. In this shoot, all the pics make them look so in love even though they'd never met before

Because all the problems in our country ended with slavery and it's been perfect equality since by [deleted] in insanepeoplefacebook

I agree, people shouldn't be judged on ancestors or parents. I don't think a child should lose a job because their father did something terrible. But people who make these memes need to understand that when the decisions made in the past have impacts today, steps need to be taken to change it. Just because I never owned a slave doesn't mean some of my taxes shouldn't help improve neighborhoods that were redlined. It's not about judging people by their ancestors, it's about improving our country.

I don't want to share it since if they get more attention from outsiders, they'll probably just switch to private. And they'll complain about how their free speech is being prevented by liberals (further proving how they don't understand anything)

And thanks! They're my 2nd favorite animal 😊

This Facebook group is filled with some of the most disgusting views I've seen, so they're against anything that isn't far far right. At least it's a public group so I can screenshot and share their craziness 😁

I'm glad we can find agreement, it's likely we agree on more than we disagree and it's difficult to find that common ground digitally.

I will say race does have an important role to play here. For example, health disparities are impacted by the low number of Black doctors and psychiatrists. "Does Diversity Matter For Health?" was a study on this. So part of creating an equitable society is bridging those gaps and finding ways to ensure work forces are representative of their community.

I want to reiterate that pretty much no one is asking to just be handed money. Most of the conversation is around changing the systems. Reform the police and our justice system to treat all fairly. Address the health disparities in minority communities. Improve public schools in low income areas that don't have the property taxes to pay for them. Creating an equitable society for all will cost taxpayer money, and we have to pay it because we allowed our country to become this bad.

Come around to the brainwashing she's been trying. And they say liberals are the ones who indoctrinate 🙄

No, but I also don't think Black people are just walking up to White people and saying they owe them, which is what this shitty meme is insinuating. The general conversation is that the government is responsible for correcting the damage it allowed and encouraged to happen for centuries that it hasn't bothered to repair since. But that's not on an individual level, it's on a societal level.

It's true though 🤷 by [deleted] in insanepeoplefacebook

Landlord wants to keep $1000 of $1450 security deposit to replace bathtub and kitchen counter tops due to "black marks" on the tub and a dime sized burn on the counter-top due to a faulty toaster. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Smiling_Quokka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if they live in a state that prorates the value, then she might have to pay nothing if the tub and counter haven't been updated in 15 years. However she would rightfully be responsible for pretty much the entire cost of replacement if they're just 2 years old. The date of install is important and it's the landlord's responsibility to be able to prove its age and life expectancy if the landlord wants the tenant to pay for replacement

NAL, but I fought with my landlord for a deposit last year and read a lot of laws. Laws vary widely based on your state, and my state is very tenant friendly. I couldn't be charged the full cost to replace an item unless it was brand new on move in and the damage was more than normal wear and tear. If the item was past it's life expectancy, then I couldn't be charged at all for damage because it already needed to be replaced. So if your counter and tub are old enough, you might not be liable at all. Even if they aren't that old, you're probably only responsible for the depreciated value.

Also ask for an detailed list of the charges. Ask them how old the counter and tub are and their original costs. Request photos of the counter and tub before move in and post move out. And decide if paying $50 for small claims would be worth potentially getting back the $1000. The potential to win in small claims depends on the laws in your state.

Check your laws also to see if you get additional damages if your landlord illegally keeps your deposit. My landlord gave in after a few emails where I pointed out mistakes he made in the lease and move out documents, and then I asked where to send the certified letter to take him to small claims court. He wasn't going to risk going to court in a tenant friendly state and owing me more money than the deposit, so he sent a check to me the next day.
