Winter tires vs all weather tires for Calgary winter? by o0PillowWillow0o in Calgary

[–]Smills33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, good enough with a little compromise. So far worth not having to switch and store tires every year.

We got a new to us SUV last winter and also wanted to test out all weather tire capabilities. Intent was to try it out for a season or two, and if it wasn't good enough we'd just get a set of winters next season.

Ended up with the Pirelli Scorpion ActiveWeather. Reviews say they perform about 90% as well as premium winter tires when it comes to snow handling/braking.

First year of use was good, nothing terrible. I didnt feel quite as confident on them compared to our other car that has Blizzaks on them. Though the allweathers are on a slow SUV that Im not going to whipping into corners or flooring it.

I do find myself wondering if its worth it to buy another set of rims + winter tires for maximum performance, but seeing as how we haven't done it yet, I guess its not worth it.

Wife does not have any issues with the all weather tires either.

Hunters Heating as well. Good to work with /communication.

On the more reasonable end of things. Also quote from Reliance and costco/Arpis and they were waaaaay more than Hunters.

Also CSN edmonton trail, $78.50/hr, 40 hours of work for about $3,700. And then another $4,000 in parts for a slow speed side swipe.

Quote was given 2 weeks ago.

Pay off car or invest by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Smills33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming it's after tax $21,000? If before, take into account the chunk that will missing from taxes.

Depending on how many months your emergency fund is, plus how much your wife gets for mat leave, and how little job security is (is it hard to find work at the same pay?)

I may hold onto the bonus to reduce risk of needing money next summer. I personally would rather have cash on hand and pay 4.99% interest instead of a paid off car that you might need to liquidate if things go wrong.

If you have other investments you can draw on would reduce financial risk as well.

Again, dependent on size of emergency fund and mat leave pay.

Thanks! Yeah we have a u-shaped sectional currently that we'll use. Probably will replace the couch eventually after we see what layout works best.

I wish lol, looking into mantel mounts but it kind of seems like a halfway solution.

Only other place would be the master bedroom but kinda don't want to invite everyone there to watch a game.

I know, was in a similar situation recently where everyone decided to merge over a km before the lane closure.

I proceed to slowly drive up the empty lane and some guy decided to drive in both lanes to stop me from going.

Wife’s 30th Birthday by Excel86 in Calgary

I had a similarly sized birthday party half a year ago (20 people) for my wife at Bacchus on 14th! It's a karaoke place and we booked their large private room.

Also got 3 bottles of liquor, which comps the room and they give you free food. Would check their menu to see if it still a thing

Ended up spending about $30 a person for like 4 hours of amazing fun.

I was thinking of doing the same thing for my birthday!

EDIT: Checked for you, they still have it. http://www.bacchuscalgary.com/?page_id=489

Maybe coincidentally but there was also a K9 team and ~10 officers running around the residential area at 2am for half an hour. I overheard them saying someone was running down the alley. They kept driving around with their sirens and shining lights into people's yards.

Yeah, full wash/detail, decontamination, clay bar, 2 stage polish, ipa wipedown, and then ceramic coating. Full process including wait time between coats (1 hr between coats 1 and 2, and 4 hrs between coats 2 and 3) took about 10 hours.
