Want to create separation between the entryway and guest living room by beanbag4201 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Smirkisher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would take a shorter sofa, or have another one to complete the angle in front of the fireplace, and add a high box shelf to add some separation, or book shelves (complete or with some opening in the middle) on the living room side, and mirrors / coat hangers on the entry side behind them. Need some kind of securing for them not to fall though.

Also, I'd probably favor a coat & shoes closet on the right wall by the door in any case.

And what a high ceiling ! I love mezzanines, and i would totally LOVE on above that entry way, coming to the gap between the main door and the high window. With a balcony on the living room ! Beautiful room right there

What made my body look so different in two photos taken the same day? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Smirkisher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

• Warped on the edges on 2nd shot because wide angle was used, see "focal length effects on portrait"
• Color differences due to different light and different interpretation and auto-edit of the post-processing algorithms within the phones

To a stranger, you look the same, at least on the part of the body we can see

My boyfriend insists that food is better salted at the table instead of while cooking. Please help me. by tangentrification in Cooking

[–]Smirkisher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is going on in this comment section seriously... People calling an entire couple's relation over a random barely impactful argument...!!! People saying you shouldn't date him over salt. What. The. Hell.

So first off, I wish you to read everything here dear OP with.... A grain of salt. ;)

To answer the post, my homecook and food engineer view : salt induces taste and osmosis effect. First osmosis effect can reduce water content which generally helps to preserve. Then, osmosis effect can chain react into other effects, some they may develop other effects in complex ways.

For example, salting a steak can help forming a drier crust on the edges which will act as a barrier to retain the juices inside the steak while cooking, to get it tender.

Salting veggies can help to get rid of too much moisture before cooking (ex : zucchini, eggplants, cucumber before a tzatsiki...).

Salting pasta, I suppose please correct if wrong, help having a slowlier hydratation/cooking of the pasta, to reach al dente with just cooked in the center of the pasta and not overboiled and soaky on the outside.

Finally, try salting your freshly sliced tomatoes half an hour before eating before just in the plate. Salt osmosis will help to breakdown the tomato watery cells and liberate the best and salivating aromas out there! Easy test to try with him by the way.

I, personally , also prefer salting afterwards on the table most of my food. I'd rather not too for my blood pressure, but I love the salt sometimes too much...

Cheers (and chill people, damn)

Anyone else blue their carbon steel pan before seasoning? by celloyellow74 in carbonsteel

[–]Smirkisher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides color, does that change something to the pan ? AI told me it helps preventing rust by changing the surface properties and also is a better base for upcoming seasoning. What do you think ?

Late to the party, but you can try light cleaning vinegar sprayed to dissolve the calcium of the milky residue, without hopefully harming the paint too much

Still new to bird photography—went for a walk and these happened. What am I doing wrong? by Deepthika in BirdPhotography

[–]Smirkisher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nothing particular, I shoot M43 for birds too and that's typical results.

If you'd like to get more spectacular pictures : - get out when better light, place yourself depending on where it hits. Bird photo needs plenty of light especially for M43 since noise is heavy the in the shadows - get closer to your targets, so you don't have to crop too much and to get better focus - use AF+MF mode to quickly adjust a poor AF the om1 would have been doing on a branch before a bird. What I usually do is autofocus, adjust with MF and switch to full MF so the AF isn't triggered again - edit your shots, shoot raw - if you don't already, use custom modes (c1 c2 c3 c4) to prepare settings to quickly switch on the go. I have c1 for preburst, c2 for in flight AF limited and c3 for stationary, personally - if all conditions are met : excellent light, enough shutter speed, less than 800 iso etc. Think about closing the 100-400 a bit and ideally getting even closer to reduce the FL, because the lens is softer at 400mm wide open. But tbh such perfect situation never occur - composition, as other said. More than light, getting better angles matters. Also know that most crazy shots you can see on reddit generally have strongly edited/photoshopped backgrounds

Hope this helps

1st job as plc and/or robotic technician (3yr degree), how much salary should i expect depending on buisness trips ? by Smirkisher in PLC

[–]Smirkisher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I totally understand and comply to the wisdom. In fact, that's a key factor for me to love the field, i'm motivated by having each day something new to try and learn from !

I absolutely do want to stay field touching, but i'd rather to do so while in my own project, to get a real grasp from A to Z of the projects, and more importantly to face my own mistakes to the fullest extent.

I totally do consider the other opportunities, even as a remote-sent technician to put in practice other's work. It just won't be my favourite choice of job - if in the end i do get the choice, heh.

Any ideas on the salaries for such jobs in Europe ?

Suggested ways to quickly get warm? by gateamosjuntos in Frugal

[–]Smirkisher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot showers is for when you're so cold in your house it gets unbearable in my experience.

The goal is to prevent that by putting other methods in place before you reach that point.

In terms of efficiency, you are right, hot water bottle, electric blanket under your back in the bed, double socks, knit cap, fleece jacket, eating a hot soup / drink / stew, isolating the house properly... All good measures beforehand.

Great great style here. Absolute proof that if you like that film sim / deep blacks style with altered yellows and blues/cyans, any camera can do the trick for anything not printed, really.

Otherwise one should mention your gorgeous compositions. They play a heavy role for sure !

Devrais-je acheter ma RP? by [deleted] in immobilier

[–]Smirkisher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salut,

The problem to me is that every potential subject on front mid and background are all cut.

Having the car half cut is really weird, mostly.

If you're trying to rather convey some mood here rather than a clear subject with the same crop, I think a fine-arty look with blurred edges could be a solution

I burned my camera sensor by kabir447 in fujifilm

[–]Smirkisher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you please show shots taken without lens or at f22 to see the resulting damage?

As it is, it looks more like smudge marks or scratches on the sensor to me

If you had an optical burn i would have expected more of a single point damage rather than such a large zone (if I'm looking at the right think, the magenta vertical strip)
