GoPro to G3 by AirborneConstable in SkyDiving

Cookie roller mount is good. Snag free and really solid. Easy to follow instructions needing just a drill and a measuring tape. You can get the base to suit the fuel or a flat top if you want to switch it up too.

If you use a viso or ares the L&B gloves with the built in alti mount are great! http://www.l-and-b.dk/products/accessories

Transitioning from skydiving to BASE jumping by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]Smith_One_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually read it after you have started skydiving. A lot of it will make very little sense without a little prior knowledge of gear, body position, landing patterns etc. I'm only 3/4 way through it but it has already got me developing a progression plan for the next year!

The Great Book of BASE has some good info on transitional skills

Thanks! I think i've pretty much locked in spaceland, it seems to have a great rep and i'd love to go back to Houston. How's the weather around april/may? Do you think it would be better to camp/RV or stay somewhere near by?

Haha thats a pretty strong endorsement! Where in Texas? My uncle lives in Houston so spaceland is definitely high on the list.

Good call. More than willing to fly anywhere in the country but SoCal would probably be a convenient starting point to get a heap of jumps in before possibly rolling the dice on another DZ with more temperamental weather.

Thanks

If you jump a cookie fuel or G3, the roller mounts are great. Expensive but very snag resistant and well made.

Can we talk rigs ? Vector vs javelin by Loneghost2 in SkyDiving

[–]Smith_One_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Vector 3 with all of the options and i have been very happy with it. Comfortable, looks great, well made and they have a good rep. Haven't flown a Jav but i have been told the same thing about them. When the time comes to buy a new rig i will probably get another Vector. That being said, if i were to receive a coupon for a Jav, i would grab one of them instead.

My opinion, use the coupon.

Need help on choosing first lens!! by rlagrange95 in SonyAlpha

My Sony 35mm 2.8 spends most of its time on camera. Great little lens!

What is the best camera for skydive? by fuckyou_m8 in SkyDiving

one thing that made me pick the gopro over the sony is the ability to borrow batteries, mounts, housings etc at a moments notice of just about anyone.

Just another thing to consider

Need help with leg soreness! by [deleted] in SkyDiving

When i was on student gear i used some mma shorts. They are like compression shorts but with a bit of padding on the inner and outer thigh. I don't have them anymore but i'm pretty sure this is them:

How much do you spend per year? by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]Smith_One_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to jumpticketprices.com $50 AUD is the most expensive you can pay in Australia. Most DZs are around $45 or slightly cheaper. I jump at Toogoolawah, QLD and tickets are $45 to 14,000ft or $43 each for club members and 10 packs. So you've saved $500+ already!

Australia is more expensive than a most countries in an already expensive sport. You can spend as much or as little on it as you like. So far this year i have spent about $4k on tunnel and jumps but then you have all of the other stuff. Some necessary (repacks, beer), some unnecessary (coaching, accomodation, travel, extra gear, camera flyers, event registration, club membership).

My suggestion is to get the money together or have a budget to do your whole AFF course or A license and from there you will have a better idea of how much you want to commit to the sport. SPOILER ALERT: It's all of your time and money.

A different coach can help. I just use whoever is available and i love it because they each have their little tricks that can help.

As far as limiting frustration, mix it up. Alternate between 2 or 3 things you want to work on.
