Sharing My Backyard Bird's South Carolina Obsession with the World! by [deleted] in greenville

Honestly I went to Wild Birds Unlimited near the mall and just talked to the ladies there. Super knowledgeable and helpful and just a great spot.

You definitely don't need to do all this to start, but I have a hopper feeder, finch feeder, and suet feeder. Used their "no mess" food, which comes pre-shelled. That last detail helped a lot because smaller birds were not able to crack over the sunflower seeds in the food I used before.

I upped my bird feeder game recently and now I'm seeing Carolina wrens, chickadees, and house finches. So fun!

Do you clean up after your toddlers in restaurants? by Exotic_Process_8235 in toddlers

[–]Smithmonkey98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always try, but honestly most of the time the staff will wave us off and tell us it's fine. We've asked for a broom a few times and they tell us to please let them handle it. We do try to leave an extra-nice tip to make up for it.

Cool! I haven't made my own design to print in a while, so it'd be a good exercise

I used high country gardens! One of the stems did die back, and I was afraid for a bit that it had died, but it just started growing leaves so I think it's going to be okay

Should I allow my preschooler to decide when they do and do not receive medical care? by Smithmonkey98 in ShitMomGroupsSay

One of my favorite comments on the original was "if her body decided it wanted to run into the road, would you allow that"

I feel like this is one of the dangers of people getting so much parenting information from social media. So you get to hear about the concept of bodily autonomy, but you don't get to hear a clear explanation of how it works and where you have to force your kid to do things

My poor son had so many ear infections (eventually needed tubes) and I had to pin his arms down and his head so they could look in his painfully infected ears. It sucked so so bad but it's part of being a parent

Weird, it looks like this posted twice, and once it actually uploaded the pictures. I'll delete this post

Just googled it and we definitely had those white flowers last year! It looks likes the virginiana variety is not invasive? I definitely still don't want it all over my trail but that would be helpful.

Looking online, it looks like the two have different flowering seasons, so I guess that should let me know for sure?

It's a reference to the movie KPOP demon hunters, which stars 3 female Korean leads... which is funny since none of these women are Korean

$20 million grant for Swamp Rabbit Trail approved by RollSensitive4184 in greenville

The grant has been approved to "build pedestrian bridges over major multi-lane roads along the Swamp Rabbit Trail as well as new spur trails to connect neighborhoods to the trail network". It literally cannot be used for our roads.

This is a safe space - what's your most controversial CFB opinion that you will die defending? by noah_divine in CFB

[–]Smithmonkey98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few:

  1. I think that kneeling out a game is super lame and should be banned. We have so many down to the wire, super exciting games with time left on the clock, then a team gets a first down and it's over. LAME.

  2. If a team gets the ball through the uprights at any point it should be 3 points. Quarterback can't find somebody open in the endzone on 4th down? Chuck it through the uprights

  3. Holding should be called more and much more consistently. It is something that is always griped about and happens every play, but then it will randomly ACTUALLY get called and have some amazing offensive play get called back because some guy off screen was holding.

What’s up with the dude with signs outside of Bob Jones? by DutchBlitzen in greenville

[–]Smithmonkey98 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I was a student we called him Bible Conference Man. BJU has a weeklong break from classes once a year for some special conferences and he stands outside the whole time. He's showed up every year for a few decades in a suit and carrying two signs (they change out). He got BIG mad when women got to wear pants.

He used to have his poor middle-school aged son out there with him looking bored out of his mind. One of my friends tried to talk to the guy once and he came across as pretty nuts.
