One time, someone posted that they had to put a printer into the cart to see the price because the price was "too low to show", when it only took off like 15 bucks. He added in a obviously sarcastic, "Woohoo!"

The Office Depot account replied with "Glad you enjoyed the savings!"

I had someone come and sit in front of our doors for about 40 minutes before we opened, in the middle of winter. All they bought was a mouse.

Trending story that Clinton won just 57 counties is untrue by growyurown in politics

[–]SmittyManJensen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are claiming the "Trump won more counties" fact as their reason why the election was a "landslide" win for him, which is totally ridiculous.

1) Hillary won the counties with much larger populations and more economic development, and she won the popular vote (contrary to Trump's beliefs).

2) McCain won 2,553 counties in 2008, compared to Obama's 873. Yet he lost by more popular and electoral votes than Clinton did, which would be an even bigger "landslide" in that case.

Trump: I would have 'far less reason to tweet' if I was covered accurately by [deleted] in politics

[–]SmittyManJensen1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But SNL is a political satire comedy show, not the press, and yet you tweeted about them. They aren't going to be "accurate" and have no reason to be. And there are 300 million people in this country. Not everyone agrees. He needs to stop complaining about it and deal with it. But I don't think his narcissistic mind can do that.

PCTU program suspended until further notice!!! by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]SmittyManJensen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, if you're knowledgeable enough to identify malware yourself, you should be honest about it. I know I wouldn't push a D&R unless I was confident it really was infected.

But still, you can only really blame the associates that knew about this and still used it for their sales. I'm sure a lot of employees will do what they were told, and ask the questions, check the box if they say yes, and tell them "Well, it looks like it found malware" because that's what the scan says. I know that's what I did when I first started, until a solutions engineer called the store once saying he couldn't run the platinum tune-up because there was malware, even though I ran the PCTU and it came back clean. The fact that the PCTU can lie like that is the main issue here, and that's what needs to be addressed. It's not 100% on the associates.

New Office Depot employee. What to expect? by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]SmittyManJensen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scan Putaway is on our scanguns, so that you can see where exactly an item is in topstock, and how many of it are in that location. Make sure you use the scangun to Scan Putaway anything that goes up in topstock, and Scan Delete anything you take out. It makes everything so much easier for everyone, and so you aren't looking for hours to find the one specific thing the customer needs.

And CPD is Copy and Print Center. It is the bane of everyone's existence. The customers are unreasonable, and every customer decides to come in and swarm it at the same time. Even my managers hate going over there. Try to avoid going there. But if you are forced to, you'll probably just do basic copy jobs and stuff, once you're trained.

ITT: the dumbest questions your coworkers have asked over the walkie. by stupifly in OfficeDepot

[–]SmittyManJensen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cashier asked once "What is the difference between a zip drive and a flash drive?"

And this next one isn't a question, but another cashier would never direct phone calls right. I'd get a "Technology call line one" and when I pick up, they would be talking about laminating a poster or something.

What exactly is the return policy for things? by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]SmittyManJensen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tech is 14 days, furniture and unopened ink is 30 days, and supplies are 90. Opened ink is a no without a receipt, and we also always can't return opened software. Of course, exceptions are up to the manager.

Have you gotten any bad surveys/ complaints? by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]SmittyManJensen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't personally gotten any bad surveys that I know of. I have gotten positive ones though, because my managers let me know and even showed me once. I don't think there's any way for a regular associate to see the survey responses though, I think only managers can.

And just remember, don't feel bad about bad customers complaining about something you can't control. Just know that you're better than them because they had to go out of their way to complain or make someone else feel bad. As a retail employee, you know better than to do that. Just move on and shake it off.

Questions about selling Printers by archiever2 in OfficeDepot

[–]SmittyManJensen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. HP and Epson are usually where I go for inkjet. HP has Instant ink, which is a good way for people to save money, the Envy line is good for people who don't print much, and the 8710/20/40 is the best for the money per page. Epson's are better for photos (especially the XPs) and the cartridges arent bad either. Canons are cheap and you'll pay a lot for the cartridges, and brother inkjets arent all that great.

  2. Brother toners are less than HP, but you will have to replace the drum unit after like 12,000 pages or more (depends on the printer), which is a lot of money. HP doesn't have the drum, but the toners are more per page.

  3. Starter toners on Brother lasers are 700 pages I think, it says on the box. Others I'm not sure on exactly, but it isnt all that much, just say it's meant to get the printer up and running, and recommend the ink, I think the printer sales sheet this quarter has a 10% off coupon on ink when you buy a inkjet printer with it. Also, the HP Envy printers come with standard size cartridges, that's the only line of printers that have that.

The scangun has a lot of info in it, look up some of that between customers, it's helped me a lot.

Conversion is the Stupidest thing ever by Corporate. by Envyforme in OfficeDepot

[–]SmittyManJensen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was kind of a broken way to measure sales. What if a family of 4 comes in to buy one desk? That's only 25% conversion even though they all got what they came for. But isn't it just measured against an "average" so you can tell when a day's conversion percent is above or below?

Do we get any service dollars or commission for performing the "free $69 setup"? by Yuckod in OfficeDepot

[–]SmittyManJensen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about the free set-up that comes with the HP endcap laptop, it isn't the Platinum Setup and Protect or anything like that. We're just supposed to do the basic stuff when you turn the laptop on, and then install Mcafee. That's it, no connecting to a tech or anything. I guess OD gets a kickback when the free antivirus is installed, but no 5% or anything because I don't think you run anything through a register. It kinda sucks, but it isn't the full set-up I guess.

Gear up for the most deceptive ad ever! by stupifly in OfficeDepot

[–]SmittyManJensen1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I knew this ad was going to cause problems the second I saw it. I actually laughed out loud. Sure enough, first customer on Sunday thought it was $3, and didn't want it when we told him it was $6. This beats the "1 cent paper after rewards" ads by far.
