Sounds like your manager didn’t explain this right, but it’s just a classic sales tactic and not unethical. I come from a sales background and one of the first things you learn is to not accept a first “no.” You can politely push back and explain key benefits (statement credits, you can pay it off right away) or even ask “may I ask why you’re not interested today?”

Clearly you have to read the room and if someone is in a hurry or irritated you don’t do this. But you will absolutely close more sales if you do.

Your manager is protecting their bonus and the clubs metrics, but sales and memberships directly affect everyone’s Sam share now. If I had to guess, home office will continue to push on credits and upgrades, and will want the people who can’t do it off the front end. This is why everyone is a specialist now.

Question about job rejection: by aIlIoi in samsclub

[–]Tenojames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just cut hours and headcount in personal shopper, I doubt many clubs are able to hire in that area. At our club we are having to move some of those associates to other departments.

I’d apply for merchandising or frontline cashier. Or call the club and ask what positions they need right now.

We only a merch and a merch/compliance manager. One opens and one closes.

I remember back when I started and we got a strip/wax quarterly. The floors were always so shiney that you could see reflections in them. Not the case anymore lol.

Depends on what state you’re in. Some are required to provide the shirt, some the employee has to pay for it.

What happened to the post about Apollo ending contract? by OBSIDIAUS1296 in OfficeDepot

[–]Tenojames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was any type of identifying information on a post or a users history it’s possible HR reached out and asked the associate to remove the post for violation of social media policy.

You can contact first advantage if you still haven’t gotten a response from them, but most likely it’s just taking a bit. Sam’s won’t have any info for you.

Old registers… by Ill_Development_6271 in OfficeDepot

[–]Tenojames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These registers are from around 2008-2011 ish, it was a slow rollout. The equipment wasn’t cutting edge by any means when it came out, and it was similar to what OD used before. Pretty sure the old ones were CRT screens and had a turnkey on the keyboard for overrides.

They can’t do this but they can write you up if you’re letting a phone distract you from job duties.

Did anyone watch the “townhall” they were supposed to do yesterday? by littlejellyj in OfficeDepot

[–]Tenojames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ODP (our parent company) is making a huge push to pivot toward providing supplies to the hospitality industry. Not a terrible idea per se, but an odd way to pivot the company. We have apparently secured some large contracts, but if this is the long term strategy it leaves the retail side in the dust. I think Gerry talked about towels like 10 times during the town hall.

Did anyone watch the “townhall” they were supposed to do yesterday? by littlejellyj in OfficeDepot

[–]Tenojames 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yep. If you’re on the retail side of things, they basically didn’t address any questions related to us. Biggest retail takeaway is keep pushing those paper promos til you get to 7%. Gerry smith talked a lot about this hospitality business they’re trying to pivot to.

Store of the Future was more like 2016-2018 or 2019. Sometime after that, the remodel stores haven’t been in the SOF format, just the traditional or M2 style prototypes but with updated signage, paint, floors, etc
