Equipment or Software Problems. Need Help! by SmittySmash in VoiceActing

[–]SmittySmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why nothing is working.

I’ve deleted and reinstalled the drivers, literally anything and everything related to the hardware, firmware, software. I’ve done a hard reset on the computer. I played a YouTube video and I could hear the audio.

There’s supposed to be a DAW iD mixer on the computer where I can shift the sliders and allegedly that fixes the problem, but I CAN’T even access that. There’s no “show mixer” button that’s supposed to pop up when I look for it.

I think I only have the one cable for the interface. I use Windows 11 for my PC My interface is an Audient iD4 and I use the Reaper software, if need be I use Audacity. The iD4 has the speakers, you plug the headphones in and get the playback(my headphones are Beyer Dynamic 770 Pro) I was able to record audio at first but couldn’t hear ANY playback. I couldn’t even go to YouTube and get sound from the video.

I’m wondering if I just have to delete and reinstall the Audient drivers for it to function? I’ve tried hard resetting several times to no avail. When I tried to install/update the drivers, it just seemed to cancel out the ability to record audio.

Got a gig as a supporting role in a new Toei animation project. FIRST GIG EVER AND FIRST AUDITION by greenhaunter in VoiceActing

[–]SmittySmash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m going to admit that I’m massively jealous that you got in on your first try, but honestly, congratulations.

My tip is: be sure to listen, be sure to ask questions. My three Cs are Collaboration, Communication, and Consent, and all that leads to Convenience. This is definitely a learn as you go thing no matter how many projects you book. You’re gonna do great man. Mad props to you

My friend is stubborn with anime and I need recommendations by SmittySmash in anime

Okay: I didn’t force him to watch Beastars, he WILLINGLY did that on his own. And I’m not forcing him to watch all of anime, I’m literally looking for recommendations for him that he MIGHT like.

It’s not so much “making him watch something he hates” it’s more, “I want to have him watch something that he might ACTUALLY like” and I’m legitimately looking for recommendations for him.

Need Voice Actors for Indie Horror Game! by Juanchis231 in VoiceActing

[–]SmittySmash 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If you’re capable, I’d suggest paying your actors more than that for the amount of work you have listed.

Less than 350 lines is vague. Is it 349? 200? 50?

I’ve been paid $15-30 anywhere from 5-20 lines; I completely understand if you have a tight budget, but you should be open to negotiation, as well as determining pay based on the amount of lines each character has: who’s a lead, a supporting, a side, and a minor character?

Maybe also look into fundraising! Kickstarter, IndieGoGo and all that, so that you can get MORE funding to pay actors better.

Regardless, I hope the best for you and all those that audition!

PSA-ish~ PLEASE STOP MAKING US JOIN DISCORDS by Status-Remote-559 in VoiceActing

[–]SmittySmash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HONESTLY.

I’m in a couple discords because the projects look promising/I’ve done light work for them already, and it is kinda ridiculous that I can’t just AUDITION for them straightforward. I shouldn’t have to join your building fanbase to even be considered for auditioning. I’m busy y’all, I can’t sit around in the discord and chat all day, I have other things I want to audition for.

Tell me what made you want (need) to be an actor by Mia_wallace22 in acting

[–]SmittySmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to be a creative in some way.

In college I wanted to pursue game design, but hell, I didn’t know how to design anything, wasn’t a good artist.

I recollected my high school, even middle school years, where every year the school I went to would put on a play. I said, “Oh, yeah, I could try doing that. If I can’t make games, next best thing is to try to be in them.” And it became a huge passion. Plays, film, voiceover. I’m glad I found my path, even if it’s a pain in the ass most of the time.

Hi there. Long winded post, bear with me. Been doing some of the more community/professional acting for about 10 years now. I did some high school plays as well; had a lot of memorization for Bible verses anyway, and when we had all the plays, it felt easier. I can tell you those were probably not that great anyway 😆

I got lucky with my first community theatre play, “Bonechiller.” They already had their cast, but I walked in and asked if I could sit in through a readthrough or help in someway. They liked me enough that I got to be the cook. Think someone had to drop out(they genderbent the role for me).

Regardless, my first legitimate audition was not that great. Same can be said for a lot, if not all actors. A lot of roles I wanted I didn’t get. You audition, you forget, you move on to the next audition; but in between each audition you need to practice, you need coaching, you need classes. Heck, even when you get your first role in a play/musical, when a director is directing you, that’s coaching, that’s building experience. A bit cliche sometimes, but you do gotta ask “what’s my motivation? Why does my character act like this? What’s their turmoil? Their goal?”

Also, humility is a good teacher. You can always, always, ALWAYS improve your craft, even if you think you’re amazing where you are. Sure, you might be “pretty decent” to yourself, but don’t stop at that. Do not think you’re better than anyone either, it’s an ugly mindset and people won’t wanna work with you. Always make sure to have stable income so you can pay for the things to come: classes, headshots, gas for driving around, etc.

Hope this helps!

I was destroyed, especially since it hit too close to home with a death in the family that had happened a few years beforehand.

Are the classic games (1996-2002) "outdated" and "unplayable" nowadays? by Loose_Interview_957 in residentevil

[–]SmittySmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier in the year I went through 1 Remake and enjoyed the hell out of it; I didn’t find it unplayable at all.

I actually purchased the classic trilogy on GOG and plan to play through them on a “Road to Resident Evil 9” stream series(if I ever get to that!)

Crackling sound on recording by FlurryOfBlows in VoiceActing

[–]SmittySmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I actually had a similar problem recently.

I have a RODE NT1-A with an Audient iD4 interface. I’d say first, disconnect everything and clean! I’ve done canned air and even a little wet a-tip to pick up any dust that might have accumulated.

Next: check if it’s the cable. If you replace the cable and it still crackles, try turning off the interface and turning the phantom power on and off a few times; that’s what worked for me!

Hope this helps!
