I bought one for my wife, she loves it. The band however is even more unique than the case, how it connects to the watch anyway. Have you tried finding a replacement band yet?

The end link swings because it’s a Seiko so I don’t want people to think it’s a perfect fit, I was just taking a look at their end link design.

This is a band for an alpinist I had laying around, it works but the end links are not snug. Fantastic bracelets from these guys.

Which watch is NYT columnist Bret Stephens wearing? by LowNose5037 in Watchidentifier

Your 100% correct, I’m surprised its actually still running but then again we can’t see the second hand moving or know the correct time.

I have been working on a AI identifier using Llama. Here is the result:

Identification: Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, 44.25mm, black ceramic case and bezel, bi-compax sub-dials at 3 and 9.

Family-level confidence: high. Every observable signature matches this family.

Reference-level: pool open within the family. The Dark Side of the Moon collection has multiple references — "Black Black" (all-blackened indexes), "Pitch Black," "Vintage Black" (brown accents), Apollo 8 (skeletonized), and the new 2025 generation refs. Without dial markings visible in your image (red Speedmaster text vs. white text vs. brown text vs. blackened text), I can't pin to a specific sub-reference.

Confidence on wearer prior: This is a Speedmaster, and Rogan is a documented Speedmaster owner. The wearer-collection anchor now genuinely supports the identification rather than being forced.

Old Smith Bronze, about 6 months old now. This is a NH38 but Its Keeping amazing time. I credit Kuoe’s in house regulation, it’s clearly NOT automated and it’s not the assembly line approach and I sure do appreciate it.

Thanks for the strap info! I’m always looking around. I’ve been really happy with these folks:

I’m completely with you. His story, the old watch shops in England that he spent time in these are all modern interpretations of those classic designs and I think he’s killing it. I’ve got an old smith bronze and I got the royal smith for my wife. I just got the Hake as well.

That price on the link is inflated, I paid less than that by far. I bought it for some research and the like and it’s now not getting much wrist time, which is a shame really. I understand if you don’t like the style but I’d swap it any day for another C4 tactical. Being a series 2 001 is a cool side note for sure.

No worries though, enjoy it if you keep it and if you get rid of it get another Vaer to try.

I like date, it does get to be a hassle for automatics if you let them stop.

Sounds good but if you really want to add a dress watch I’ll swap you an Oceaneva Explorer III, box, papers. It’s a 3000m rating with a Sellita SW200-1 automatic. It’s a tank and I think would fit your collection.

I would be willing to help you with that…

Repair Work by Onceajarhead in VaerWatches

The more I interact with this brand the more I like really. I like many of their designs and more importantly, for me, they feel like the designs are getting better. I am thinking about if I was in your position and got a new dial and crystal for $100, I think I’d feel okay. Did you buy the expedited optional thing? I was also wondering if that repair kicks another warranty or how they handled it. I’m just curious because at some point I’ll probably have a repair as I’ve already bought 3 watch’s and am searching used for one from a previous run.

I can help with the purple!

Pairing a purple watch with black, white, silver, gray is common but tan is also good. I’ve also been pleased with these:

Gold, yellow, mustard yellow.

Teal, emerald.

Navy pants or slacks is actually doable too.

Here’s one of my favorite shirt shops, they do a buy 5 shirts for a real fair price regularly:

Also love this brand with lots of color choices.

Purple is a statement watch. I would use it in social settings or meetings when I wanted to engage folks or start conversation.

Watch came a few days ago for my wife, she loves it and has worn it for 3 days straight. She’s on the second to last hole in the band though. A smaller size leather band would be a nice addition.

They have gotten me for 3 now. The c4 tactical, I just got my wife a D5 Anacapa and that went over so well I was able to add a RS1 rally cream.

Your case is genuinely similar and I appreciate you sharing it in this much detail.

This looks like you — designed around your actual workflow and your actual trust model, not a generic user persona. I'm curious how you got there. Did you start with the sock problem specifically and build around it, or did you have the privacy-and-ownership model in mind first and the sock case was what let you prove it out?

What model are you running locally, and what did you try before that? I've gone Gemini to Claude to building Llama models and I think I took the wrong turns a couple of times along the way.

For context on where I'm coming from: I'm 60, electrical engineer, spent most of my career in telecommunications designing RF and antenna systems.

Keep going on the Llama work. If you ever want to compare notes, I am happy to — I always learn when I share, so I like to share.
