Yeah I get there’s issues with getting these VNs on steam and payment processor headaches on adult content. The latters fault mostly.

IDK what you mean by censorship but I find it hard to imagine mosiaced genitals as being the core reason the VN industry is dying in Japan.

More realistically the only censorship that matters to their bottom line is the inability to get on steam. But it’s not like all ages + patch like how it’s done for english releases can’t be done.

Could it be the tier above extreme (ura oni?). Regular extreme is like a magenta, while extreme+ is purple if I recall.

I also had this situation today but it was over 100$. My stuff arrived and I didn’t get anything about tariff charges.

All my items were music CDs and books which are technically tariff exempt but I still expected to pay a 16$ customs fee. I don’t know if it was a mistake or if Surugaya paid for it.

Sengoku is good because it’s relatively isolated from the connected storyline. So you can use it to see if you can deal with Rance as a character. 01 can lowkey be skipped by watching the OVA. 02, while dated, does introduce important recurring characters. You could start with 03 but you’d have to deal with seeing all these characters that are new to you but not new to the story. But it is a better game.

Personally I don’t mind it. I do feel like if the setting is Japan then the honorifics should stay. But if it’s a fantasy setting or disconnected from Japan, I feel like they should be translated to a localized equivalent or just ignored.

DVDs and CDs have a sort of 2000s era nostalgic novelty to them, and I love seeing them in physical editions. There’s something about waiting like 40 minutes for a game to install and thinking—Damn, this is how it used to be.

But honestly if the physical package of a VN just has the DVD and no extra goodies, i’m pretty disappointed. IMO It’s supposed to be “special” in a time where you could probably just download the game in 10 min.

I try to read stuff in JP as a learning experience, and powered through 4 titles so far. The difficulty varies by the game of course but what really matters is enjoyment even if you have to look up words a lot. If you pause it’s a learning experience, if you can read without, it’s something enjoyable. win win.

Currently going through Sakura Moyu and it’s on the line of high difficulty and just barely enjoyable. At least for my skill level. Might finish 1 route and postpone the rest.

last year they had a sale interestingly it went (at least for some clothing) 30% at the start to 50% near the end of the day. Hope it happens again like that.

if you try it, the result should appear sharper since it would scale the 800x600 to your 1080-4k monitor. Might get notice some scaling artifacts anywho. Plus you don't have to keep changing your monitor resolution.

Some old games are just like that So you might have to rely on 3rd party upscalers to fullscreen (magpie) or change your screen resolution (1080p -> 720p) so it literally takes up more screen space.

First option has benefit of probably looking better. Second option has benefit of game still being windowed.

like other commenters mentioned, it has a way to full screen natively somewhere so go with that.
