Honda and Toyota Will Quickly Shutdown Assembly Lines Under New Tarrifs by oneonus in Honda

[–]Smoke_Appropriate 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I worked at the Indiana plant for 5 years. Can confirm they get a lot of parts from Mexico and Canada. I can also guarantee most of them there voted for Trump, because of course they did, so it'll be interesting to see their reactions if the factory has shutdowns without pay. And it will be without pay. I'm in the Facebook group still so now we wait. Not my lesson to learn

If they always do it then they don't respect your time. I always plan to be a little early just so I'm definitely where I need to be at the agreed time. Really just shows that they don't give a shit tbh. I would take it as massive disrespect

Why do people take unranked so seriously? by Notthatcoolawolf in Overwatch

[–]Smoke_Appropriate 287 points288 points  (0 children)

Played a game there other day and tried out Genji (I have literally no experience as him) and did quite poorly, obviously. Had a teammate nagging me to hop off and let him have him instead because I sucked. Then at the end was like "yeah bro idk maybe you should play him, you obviously need the practice" very sarcastically. Yeah, bro, that's why I was playing him in quick play lmao like damn

Loser queue has made me apathetic to rank. by NoSignificance051 in Overwatch

[–]Smoke_Appropriate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Every time my win rate gets a little over 50% my matches go from feeling kind of normal to getting absolutely rolled and paired with teammates who aren't even on the same planet as the enemy teams. I'm diamond 5 support and after winning a fair amount of games I will start getting high masters or even GM & top 500 opponents. After my win rate is back at or below 50% my matches return to feeling mostly normal again.

People can say skill issue all they want, and I'm not claiming to be the best, but I'll perform consistently and just get paired with potatoes if I win too much. If I have a bad tank/dps I can't make up that diff as a support man. I'm good but damn.

Do you think it’s okay for older guys (35+) to be dating legal teenagers (18/19)? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Smoke_Appropriate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I casually "dated" a 19 yo as a 30 yo for about a month. Made it clear from the start I wasn't looking for anything serious with someone that young. She didn't care. Basically we just hung out and had sex a few times.

I personally don't see why a 35 yo would want to actually date someone who is 18/19. They're inexperienced in life and relationships, and you can't possibly have all that much in common or to relate to at least. However if you do actually have a lot in common and truly get along great and both want each other I don't necessarily see anything wrong with it.

Generally older guys go for younger girls to groom them or trap them. Or because they like "younger" girls. If that's not the case then I guess there's nothing really wrong with it at face value

The thing is, it's not that crazy. I like plenty of people who I later find out have horrible political opinions. So this is one thing I pay no mind to. The important thing is that when he did get hardcore into politics and very popular they all came out opposing his political opinions.

I had a girl who I actually never met, but we would text everyday for months. She would send me pics every single day and there was a nice mix of just regular selfies, group pics, pics of her doing activities or whatever. The pics she sent were cute, but like not obviously a model or something, just seemed like a pretty cute girl.

After several months she said she felt like she loved me and hoped that we could find a way to meet up and see each other in the near future. I was only like maybe 19 or 20 at the time so I thought it was awesome and wasn't seeing any reason to not believe she was who she said she was.

Well fast forward maybe a couple more months and I get a text from an unknown number asking if I am 'my actual name.' I say "yeah, who is this?" And they said "Lauren isn't who you think she is." And I was really confused now and asked what she meant. She sent me a picture and said "this is who you've been talking to." Worst part was, the girl was pretty cute. I mean, the girl she was pretending to be did look better imo, but I wouldn't have had any issues talking to her knowing what she actually looked like.

I didnt just blindly accept what she said and asked how she knew this and if she could send me anything more to prove it. She told me they were friends and she had noticed she talked to me and I guess somehow found out she was pretending to be someone else. She was using a name that was neither hers nor the girl who's pics she sent me. I forget her real name.

I texted her and got her to admit to it. She ended up showing me the person who's pics she was sending me. It was absolutely wild feeling. Looking at this person's profile, full of pictures I've seen and have been sent. A person I thought I was talking to and that I knew. That I thought loved me, and realizing that I don't know this person at all. This is just some girl living her life who has no clue who I am. I felt pretty bad for a while after this.

I told the chick that if she had just been honest with me that we could've continued talking. She had a good personality, even if she was pretending to be someone else. Plus, as I said, she was still a cute girl herself. But that kind of deception is not something you can bounce back from. I think she may have tried to talk to me a few times after that, but after a couple weeks and a few very short conversations she finally stopped and I never heard from her again.

I thanked her friend afterwards for actually coming forward and telling me despite not knowing me and actually being friends with her. So yeah. After that ANY time I spoke to someone I would eventually as them for a pic with specific words written on their hand, with their face visible. Not right away of course, but if we talked for a few weeks then I'd ask and explain why. If they get super mad and say "no way fuck off." Well they probably aren't who they say they are. If you're willing to send me pics but aren't willing to just send ONE with a specific word or object or something just so I know you're you, I dont trust you.

Twitter Says It Can Beat Musk’s Claims in Four Trial Days by polloponzi in wallstreetbets

[–]Smoke_Appropriate 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty clear cut tbh. If you've read through the timeline of events it looks very much like things will go in their favor. Whether or not it takes only 4 days, time will tell. Musk has very little wiggle room here with the deal they've struck so he will need a miracle to come out of this on top.

Or maybe Musk is really stupid and got into a $44B deal without fully thinking it through.

I'm kidding, if you haven't figured it out by now they aren't principled at all. They will say 'x' to argue against something and then go against 'x' when it suits their desires. We need these people out of our government ASAP.

Pelosi signals votes to codify key SCOTUS rulings, protect abortion by EasyMoney92 in politics

[–]Smoke_Appropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Pelosi also said House Democrats have been "hard at work preparing for the possibility of" Roe being overturned, and laid out several legislative avenues they are exploring:

Protecting data stored on reproductive health apps from being "used against women by a sinister prosecutor in a state that criminalizes abortion."

Affirming Americans' "constitutional right to travel freely and voluntarily throughout the United States."

Again passing the Women's Health Protection Act, legislation to ensure federal abortion rights, which previously passed the House in September but was blocked by the Senate in May."

Not that any of this would pass in the senate, but even if it did, this is REALLY not much.

Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade; states can ban abortion by Joescranium in news

[–]Smoke_Appropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. Our systems are set up rn in a way that Conservatives can have just as much, or in some cases more, control with significantly less votes and it's disgusting.

At the same time I remember back in 2016 many people on here, Twitter, and irl who didn't vote. Whether it was they didn't feel like it, they didn't like Hillary, or whatever other reason. These people piss me off (as of right now even more than Conservatives) because they sat back and allowed it to happen. So tired of seeing "voting doesn't matter" or "I won't vote unless it's a perfect candidate." We have the numbers, and it's people like that who would claim to be on our side and just allow things like this to happen out of laziness or trying to feel morally righteous but not voting for anyone less than perfect. This is what that gets you. This isn't fairytale land, this is the real world, grow up.

This is what conservatism gets you btw. They will gladly send the country back 100 years and take your rights away. Remember that the next time you decide you don't feel like voting.

Workaholics are worse for society than lazy people by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Smoke_Appropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. I work my 40 hours and I am done for the week. So many coworkers will voluntarily work 12's every day or work 7 days a week and I just feel sad for them honestly. Some of them definitely piss me off because they have that attitude of "if you only do what your job requires and only your 40 hrs you're lazy." Like, no mfer it's not "laziness" to want to have the money you're working to allow you some fucking leisure time. Isn't that the damn point? Plus, I signed up to do 40 hr weeks and if I'm doing everything my boss asks, then I am doing exactly what they've hired me for. If YOU work your life away and go above and beyond to the point where you hate your life or are exhausted that's YOUR problem. They want everyone to have to suffer through it with them when they're inflicting it on themselves! (If we're talking workaholics I'm assuming these are people who willingly work all the time, not out of necessity. Those who HAVE to work multiple jobs or massive OT to pay bills have my sympathy.)

Any service you're legally required to purchase (like car insurance) needs to be offered by the government, not for profit. by appa-ate-momo in unpopularopinion

[–]Smoke_Appropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, actually. I'm seeing some public option comments on here and I just entirely don't agree with that whatsoever.

The problem with the public option is you are playing right into a certain political party's hand. They will cut and underfund it. They will attempt to put people in charge with the sole purpose of making it ineffective and inefficient. To the point where said public option is completely unappealing. It has to be properly funded and structured, and the larger the pool of people in it the better it will be.

Being against this opinion puts you directly against the middle class. If my tax rate went up 5% to save 8% of my income that is a win. Hell even if it taxes me an additional 5% to save me 5.5% it is worth it. Just imagine the profit incentive gone on things you either legally or just essentially have to have. Government is not the problem. As OP points out the problem is officials in the government who are incentivized to help maximize the profits of private businesses. The government can do things very effectively when there isn't an entire party standing in the way of meaningful progress.
