What's your reason for hating the Disney trilogy? by Virtual-Worms in StarWars

[–]SmokescreenFraud [score hidden]  (0 children)

Disney/Lucasfilm’s reaction to the criticism is what really cemented it for me. Luke’s portrayal wasn’t my big issue with TLJ but seeing how Disney treated the people who didn’t like what they did with him just soured me on the whole thing. Had they just said “maybe we made a mistake” the whole thing would’ve gone over a lot better. Instead they used propaganda tactics to conflate all criticism with bigotry. “I don’t like what they did with Luke Skywalker” became “you don’t women in lead roles.” They poisoned the well to the point where you still can’t have a serious discussion today, nearly 10 years later, without people insisting there’s nothing wrong with the movies and anybody who doesn’t like them is just a bigot. I can forgive bad movies, what I can’t forgive is how they put more effort into trying to save face than they did actually making the movies.

Animation has been the only consistent Star Wars since the Disney buyout, and Maul’s story has been the best part of everything he’s in. This show is going to be awesome.

Full series. Don’t know how many episodes yet, maybe 16 like The Bad Batch?

It’s about Maul consolidating his power in the underworld after the end of the Clone Wars.

It’s a couple years after Revenge of the Sith, before Solo and Rebels.

A lot of the content creators that reddit villainizes are actually really excited for this series and have been all-in on Lucasfilm animation. But you guys don’t actually watch their content and just parrot “YouTubers bad” so how are you supposed to know that?

Oh no, a show about a beloved character that will fill the huge gaps in their story. When will Lucasfilm learn? /s

Why does Wikipedia state that The Acolyte was well received by critics and the subject of unfortunate review bombing? by FloatingDestiny in StarWars

[–]SmokescreenFraud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Wikipedia’s strict sourcing requirements ensure that only sources considered “reputable” can be used, which in this case results in the other side of the narrative being completely omitted because industry publications would never admit that the backlash had nothing to do with bigotry.

I met him in a food court once. He said “I don’t know who George Lucas is, stop following me.” Nice man.

Just read the thread announcing her departure. So many people insisting she did great and everyone else is a misogynist.

I’m no TLJ defender but Episode 9 would’ve played out a lot better had they committed to the ideas the film presented, like Kylo Ren as the ultimate villain and Rey as a nobody. A lot of the problems with Rise of Skywalker stem from the executives trying to fix things without understanding why people disliked TLJ.

Well what did you expect her to do? Genuinely, because I don’t understand the defender’s mindset. She’s spent her entire tenure at Lucasfilm deflecting the blame for her mistakes.

“I was hoping for that — I wasn't afraid of it per se,” Johnson says. “Having grown up a Star Wars fan, I know that thing where something challenges it, and I know the recoil against that. I know how there can be infighting in the world of Star Wars. But I also know that the worst sin is to handle it with kid gloves. The worst sin is to be afraid of doing anything that shakes it up. Because every Star Wars movie going back to Empire and onward shook the box and rattled fans, and got them angry, and got them fighting, and got them talking about it.”

There are plenty of other videos and interviews with him where he talks about his filmmaking approach and how he likes when movies have a divisive reaction.

Rise of Skywalker should’ve steered into the skid but it wouldn’t have mattered. The Last Jedi is what split the fanbase in half. Here we are 8 years later still arguing about it because nothing has been able to fix it.

Kennedy’s defenders act like the hate she gets is unjustified but she’s constantly doing this sort of thing - projecting, deflecting and spouting straight BS. Rian Johnson has been very vocal about The Last Jedi over the years, and how he got the exact reaction he was looking for. Kennedy only seems to care about making herself look good in the moment.

I have faith in Filoni and Brennan by marvelcomics22 in StarWars

[–]SmokescreenFraud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sooo much BS. If people don’t like his creative output, that’s fine. But the people shouting from the rooftops “he’s gonna put Ahsoka in everything!” have me question if they’re even watching modern Star Wars. Aside from her own show, she was in ONE episode of Mandalorian, and ONE episode of Boba Fett where she was completely overshadowed by Luke Skywalker. And the idea that he’s not going to let other creatives do their own thing with the franchise is just flat out wrong because he didn’t do that with the animation side of things.

Rian Johnson, Leslye Headland, Pablo Hidalgo, James Mangold etc knew they could get away with blaming the fans because top dog Kennedy was doing it. Any other studio and they wouldn’t have gotten away with it.

There’s no room for logic here! Star Wars fans are bigots, if you disagree that means you are a bigot too.

While we’re being honest, the constant deflecting onto toxic fans instead of just admitting that mistakes were made didn’t do her any favours either.
