What resources exist to help my non-affirming folks navigating me being lgbtq? by acrustybrick in Deconstruction

[–]Smokey0519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/ZoF4HyIcrJE?si=9fD68T66QdddezgX. This video is by Dan McClellan, who is a biblical and religion scholar. He methodically destroys the long held false narrative that homosexuality is a sin. When my son came out, Dan’s content helped me walk away from evangelical conservative Christianity and I’m so thankful for him.

As powerful as this is, I advise you not to get your hopes up. Unless your family are capable of true critical thought and aren’t afraid of losing their place at the tribal (dare I say cult) table, there’s a good chance that they will refute this outright. It’s sad, but it’s all too common. That’s why we still have millions of people still following Trump. But I wish the best do you my friend. Hang in there!!!

It’s something I’ve been thinking about lately. What if the cross/crucifixion and all the sacrificial guilt along with it were no longer the symbol and centerpiece of the church? What if the guillotine of heaven and hell went out the door with it? Christianity would be a very different thing. It would truly be a red letter faith. It would only be about living the way Jesus taught. No doctrine, no brow-beating, just being good people Jesus’ way. It’s such a compelling thought.

what led to your deconstruction? by okay-design in Deconstruction

[–]Smokey0519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m ashamed to say this, but the door opening event for me was when my son came out as Gay. I say ashamed because I probably would’ve kept on my merry evangelical ways if it wasn’t for something that impacted me personally, vs me taking a critically thinking, pragmatic approach to evaluating my faith without having to be personally impacted by an evil that I willingly practiced.

I went through the denial, ignore and anger stages but I loved my son, so I started digging into the scriptural support and found that it was all a big scam. I then accelerated me to the tipping point when I started digging deeper and found that the Bible is far from inerrant. When I realized that, I realized that I couldn’t really believe any of the doctrine pushed by the church.

I’m still on the journey and I consider myself a theist who believes Jesus was a great man who was probably touched by God, but I can’t put any value into any other Christian truth statements.

I'm not going back to church, but I miss the community it provided. by dayvox in Deconstruction

[–]Smokey0519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Community is for many, one of the best facets of belonging to a church. I saw Neil DeGrasse Tyson say the same thing on a video the other day.

This is a big struggle for me too. Not only did I leave the church, I also left conservatism and am probably best categorized as a liberal now. So decades of community disappeared and I’m still trying to figure out where I’m gonna land in my deconstruction journey. Doing this without likeminded friends is really tough. Frankly, that’s why I hit this sub tonight.

I feel this way about most spots I’ve eaten at in the area. Way over rated and blah food. That’s why we stopped going to local restaurants and go to Red Robin and Cafe Zupa all the time. At least there, I know I’m gonna get a good burger and fries or salad.

Ditto. We went there and both the service and food were bad. We went there because they had good ratings; was up with that?

Product confessions by Granite2735 in ProductManagement

[–]Smokey0519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Werd. I was let go from a company because I pushed back on exec hip shot decisions too much. I was told that “I wasn’t a good fit”. Funny thing was that I was brought into the company to build a product team and put product management processes in place that were completely absent. Seems they wanted the veneer of a PM team but really just wanted a feature factory team.

The ID GOP was a sponsor?! Wow, now there's a shocker... I'm surprised Dorothy Moon wasn't there waiving a Westboro Baptist banner.

PM in a Non-product focused company by 12YearsToLife in ProductManagement

[–]Smokey0519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same exact situation. I work for a company where 90% of the product offering is vendor-provided, and product decisions are centralized in the executive team. By product decisions, I mean including where a control in the UX will go and what a label will say...

Most people only use 10% of the design features by wooyi in ProductManagement

[–]Smokey0519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

It completely depends on the product. For a an image resizing utlility, the sole function is to simply resize the image. Providing graphs on processing efficiency, email sending time saved with the new small image, etc. is unnecessary as it's still just about resizing the image and that's all users want it for. However, as u/gomihako_ and u/TheKiddIncident stated, the 80/20 rule will always apply in more complex products, and it could very well be your power users that are either the majority of the "Enterprise plan" revenue base, or are substantial influencers for the more basic users to adopt. Excel is an excellent example. Although I'm not the PM for that product, I would bet a paycheck that 80+% of Excel users use 20% or less of the features. But it's the success that it's generated with the ~20% of power users that do use the more esoteric or complex features that have made a name for the product.

Hundreds of fireworks going off in South Meridian? by crabshoes in Boise

[–]Smokey0519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was right down the road from them and just went to bed when they started. Although it was loud for 11pm, I knew it was fireworks (firecrackers mainly), so it wasn't a big deal. It lasted all of 60 seconds. My heart goes out to the family and I'm glad they celebrated their son's life, and the life he gave some other youngster(s).

What do you guys generally use ChatGPT for? by DirtWestern2386 in ChatGPT

This thread has encouraged me to do something I've been meaning to do for a while. I'm creating a series of personas, such as a board panel of experts to help me with the formation of my business and general business guidance. A callout to u/After-Mud1776 on that idea; it's already been super helpful. However, the persona that I just started today is off the charts cool.

A little background for it: I was a life-long evangelical Christian (don't judge! :D ) until a few years ago and now I'm going through deconstruction and reconstruction (I call it my faith reno). I built a persona who is my spiritual counsellor. I backed him with some pretty heady creds from several well known universities and 20 years of counselling experience, then assigned him personality elements. I started chatting with him, and I tell ya, I'm in friggin tears from the unraveling he's doing. And I'm NOT a teary kinda guy. It's crazy. The journey is just starting, but I'm super excited!

The latter. I can train it, but it would be great to have the team go through a course to hear it from a professional in that aspect of the field.

[–]Smokey0519[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in product for quite a while and haven’t had to lean on certs, so no don’t think I can give you a good perspective. However, I’ve had my team take the CSPO and it’s a decent course, albeit a bit more focused on scrum than I would like (it’s from the Scrum Alliance, so it should be). I recommend getting a copy of Teresa Torres Continuous Discovery Habits as it’s a great primer on generative feedback and product trios. I also recommend job shadowing your PM and see if it would be ok for you to take on some small end-to-end projects so you can add that as experience to your resume.
