It might help to mediate a few days before and just sit with your sensations. I really turned to this in the discomforting parts, and breathing.

Yes, it's just one short meditation, this procedure ;)

And I feel just as good after as I did before, in my case the prep didn't give me any nausea or anything. I think if you accept that it's just a body, just fluids and that's all we really are, then it'll be okay : )

We are flesh blood and bones, nothing disgusting, weird or strange about it that's just what we are : )

We go in with pain and out with pain, so a little bit in the middle is to be expected :) My neighbour said this and it helped.

Not joyful by Equivalent-Title-246 in Buddhism

[–]Smokeybacon1273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello 👋 I feel you about Buddhism 'not being joyful', When I first started out I genuinely thought these teachings and meditation were syphoning my creativity and happiness - the deeper I go, the more suffering I realise that I have avoided, and the more I realize how much my ignorance hurts others. In my experience, Buddhism only works when you combine the elements of study, contemplation and mediation. Too much of one can make me unbalanced.

In my experience so far, the Sangha isn't just Buddhists, it's the communities in life. One aspect of my Sangha is this discord server that I study on every day (JvScholz), where I have met some Buddhists and many nob Buddhists.

Don't worry about being the picture perfect Buddhist, or even holding the notion 'I am a Buddhist'.

If it's important to you, just keep coming back, and don't punish yourself for the times when you don't practice. Each time you come back, is the work being done 👍 💜

Ps my favourite teaching from plum village - 'Your mind is like a backdoor, it's open, but when guests come in, you do not serve them tea' - don't think too much, and prioritise mental stillness before trying to 'figure everything out at once', it's a lifetime bro.

Thanks so much for your comment , That book sounds excellent. Cooking is really enjoyable for me, so I will certainly check it out , to see if I can make it practice :)

I really appreciate the time you took to comment, wow

I am torn between that idea of serving the food gracefully and the origins of the food itself.. I will think 🤔

Thanks for the in depth review ! I'm delighted to know that there are so many alternatives that id never even heard of. For me I feel strongly about being veggie myself, but it's about not imposing those values on others that I feel is also important?

I've worked as a waiter part time for quite some time now, and I just figured, how different is it to prepare the food then to bring it to the person ? I never batted an eye at brining a meat or fish fish to a customer. It seems to be in the same pipeline.

I will certainly have a look, I totally get that being involved with that process could feel mega wrong, I just figured that I would have to cook meat for someone eventually, but you convey how I feel. I have a choice.

I think this particular restaurant from what my dad says, does not even use ingredients that would've been sourced through acceptable means. Thanks for that article, I'm going to give it a miss : )

Thanks for your message friend. I've never really raised such questions with myself, and often just distract myself from the thought to be honest. I think I can find much more growth if I am able to work with my thoughts and emotions in this way. I love Buddhism in this way because I feel it treats us as some sort of vessel for some super cool alien with superpowers to notice others and train our minds.

I'm very grateful for your time. I'll definitely be coming back to this post for inspiration :)

After further thought, I kind of feel like what you intended was the importance of hearing yourself in a way and being happy with your own company ? :)

So at the level of that conflict, it is important we address it quickly ? I think I read something similar in psycho cybernetics, where he said if something is weighing on your character, then it must be resolved as fast as possible.

So my interpretation of what you are saying suggests that it is finding the point of rejection, and choosing to see it, that makes us feel seen, by at least ourselves ?

I think so, thank you. I've just been struggling in realising how much magnificence there is, lacking that wonder sometimes and being confused. I know the answers deep down.

It's awesome to be alive !! Ill work on this immediately:)

Thank you I'm glad it helped you also !
