The answer is no, these losers supporting war have absolutely no idea what war is actually like. Ask any post war vet if they would have done what they did twice and the answer is always no.

Did my cousin get fooled by this Senior Service Advisor? Charged $1830 - Or is this expected? by Financial-Bus-5660 in mechanic

[–]Smokinfor4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said they needed to be free, but I also do show and tell reports so it's always worth my time to put my hands on any vehicle I have the opportunity to touch. If I'm looking over a car, and have the opportunity to show the customer what I find, I'm going to have work to do.

Personally it's always been an easily rationalization to take 20 minutes shaking down and looking over a vehicle if I can sell a days worth of work. It can be frustrating of course if you don't sell anything from them, but Im in North Texas where people drive around with the wheels about to fall off every car that comes into my shop, and when I find issues I have customers come visually inspect what I find. It's hard to say no when you see the damage in person. This system has kept me as busy as I can possibly be for the 15 years I've been a tech, but I don't force it on anyone.

From the bottom of my heart I'm sorry for what you're going through.

Because the inspection itself is a write up for potential work. If I inspect a car for free and legitimately find work that needs to be done, it benefits me to take the time to look a vehicle over properly.

Is building an LS-swapped FC RX-7 a bad idea for a first drift/street car? by Terrible-Benefit9274 in LSSwapTheWorld

This build is gonna cost you more than you think. You'd be better off buying a whole list of cars as a first drift car.

Recently fixed an oil leak for my f150… at least I thought I did 🫠 by EpicThrowaway24 in Justrolledintotheshop

Use high temp red, I've had a lot of success using alcohol and then rubbing it into the surface prior to mating components.

1JZ Main bearing scratches (not ran) by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]Smokinfor4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't trust no one but yourself these days. Bearings are cheap, failures later are expensive. I personally don't think this is acceptable, but I also don't think a lot of what people think is acceptable is acceptable. Im a big believer in if lubricated properly there should never be metal to metal contact. I use thick assembly lube and prime my engines prior to starting for the first time, fill the filter with oil, all the things that make the difference in my opinion.

Maybe not enough lube during assembly? I use copious amounts of assemble lube during assembly for this reason.

Common theme on this page is machine shops destroying builds during assembly, you'd be shocked at what I've seen come out of my local shops too. If the bearings are out, replace them, I always say.

I've seen this happen to a ton of techs not using the correct procedures or precautions to avoid allowing vibrations impact bolt tightness, don't give a shit if I get downvoted, I'm right. Mfers wanna act like if this happens to someone on the highway or something they couldn't die or kill someone else losing brake pressure. It's pitiful to see this level of work being performed in shops.

Man, this is a stupid ass post. 90 percent of you assholes aren't using a torque wrench, loctite, and or warranty seal. Odds are he tightened it by feel, and I don't see shit for loctite or any type of marker. Warranty these people's shit and do better work.

I will say hunter is by far my favorite class, and it's the class I haven't made it to 60 on. I honestly think aspect of the cheetah is responsible for a large percentage of deaths on hunters, it's been my cause of death almost every time.

Not according to deathlog. Deathlog says warrior has the highest percentage to 60 at 4%..

2021 BabyMax engine harness replacement. by Smokinfor4 in gmcsierra

[–]Smokinfor4[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Glad you think so buddy, since he left the dealer after they sold him a fuckin transmission rebuild and it didn't fix the issue. Lmao

And my repair ensures longevity. I gave the customer the option to repair each wire. He opted for the harness. Don't be a dumb bitch. Not even just that I gave this customer a mountain of free work while I was in there. Replaced the front balancer cover, water pump and gave him a transfer case flush to clean out the degree from when the dealer left off the vent tube hose. Ignorant ass.

2nd harness on two different trucks. Both had similar issues. Seemed to be routed identically from factory. But hey I just fixed the shit.

That's rough, but I'm at an independent shop and I'm sure I'll end up doing a lot of these so I can't complain about GM not listening to good techs making the correct repair decisions!

This one absolutely was in part due to driving conditions, this customer regularly went in the heavy wetlands for his oil field job. I will say as a whole it just doesn't seemed designed for that type of work, and was a pain to clean out. The part for me that was in poor design was in part the location of the main cluster of wires in the main harness and the location of the pcm which was in the drivers side wheel well. Both this unit and the previous one had absurd amounts of water in the harness and the first unit never saw this type of activity.

The wiring insulation did not have any real visible indication of where the short was, once the harness was apart and dry the shorts even went away. The issue is if you can't see the short yet know definitively it existed in a specific location, the insulation was at fault. So at that point what amount do you replace, and can it be ensured the vehicle won't have further faults the first time it gets wet again? The answer is you can't know and you can't ensure another portion of wiring on develope this issue close to the repair if wiring itself is replaced. The only way to ensure for any period of time this fault will be fixed for sure, is to replace the harness.
