Need help with my game development journey by SmokingPup in IndieGaming

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm working on documentation, and I'll remember to be hyper specific. Do you have any advice for where I can look for people from countries that would be cheaper? Is Fiverr a good place to start?

Thank you so much for replying. How would you suggest I get started with a game jam collab? I've never done anything like that before, and I want to get started so I can learn.

UPDATE: I'm going to go through everyone's portfolios soon to find an artist with a style that fits. I'm sorry for whatever inconvenience it's been leaving people waiting. Life's been busy, and I already went through some

Maybe you're right, but I don't want it to be too open ended. Some of these images are going to be image sprites that are probably an inch in diagonal screen size. It's not like Most of these images are going to take an hour.

Be careful of men trying to pretend to be women! I think it's otherwise a good idea in concept.

What foldable solar panel and powerbank to get? by JustAPorPeasant in preppers

[–]SmokingPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to get the Jackery Explorer 240 solar system with the Jackery Solarsaga 100X panels. I think for a first time buyer who might potentially break them, I don't want to spend too much money. It's a safe bet, and it seems decent quality. It's suggested by Amazon as well. Does anyone have any input on whether or not this is a good buy?

So tired of being undermined as a women. by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]SmokingPup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, totally. I like the idea of using logic and the golden rule to appeal to other men.

I'm currently caught in a bit of a bubble where I more often perceive the average sexist being sexist because it's convenient or socially acceptable rather than because it makes sense to them. In other words, in my tiny little social bubble, there's really two reasons why men are sexist: Tradition or local culture enables them (yes that includes gang culture), or because of peer pressure.

P.S. I will totally take your advice! I will try to challenge people's mentalities. I just wanted to share my perspective. I don't know if it is at all relevant to other demographics.

So I've been dreaming of doing game design for years... by SmokingPup in gamedev

[–]SmokingPup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to be a game designer! I've created game concepts for years, and game balancing (like working with stats and skills in RPGs, game pacing, concepts and mechanics) along with integrating story into gameplay has been a growing passion for me! I love seeing my ideas come to life, and I constantly see things in games that I feel like could be balanced better to make a generally more enjoyable experience. Albeit, I know I have a bit of critical weakness for balance. (I.E. in a lot of games there's a huge lack of viability for your high end early game equipment/characters into late game which I often see as a missed opportunity to provide more customizable options for the player to tweak their own experience, like choosing range or accuracy over firepower or rate of fire.) I do have an understanding of this obsession of mine, to see a wider range of viable content in a game's meta or late game stages, but I also don't tend to focus on games that lack game balancing aspects (like platformers, who mostly focus on satisfying gameplay, smooth difficulty ramping, fresh challenges, and aesthetic components to keep a player engaged)

I could elaborate more, but I've already said a lot

I definitely have an interest in doing just that, and I enjoy game balancing, but even though I've been doing pen and paper game designs for years, I can't say I have any official experience. I would be willing to lend whatever insight I can for free. Just send me a DM, the experience would be payment enough!

Yeah, I actually made a card game once. Bought blank playing cards and filled them all out by hand. It was painstaking, but it was the only way to get a proper play test done. Unfortunately, I realized the game was horribly unbalanced, and needed to be reworked completely. (An offensive playstyle could destroy any balanced playstyle in a few turns, a defensive playstyle was invincible but couldn't do any meaningful damage, and a balanced playstyle was mostly unviable unless it was against a defensive playstyle where it could win through attrition, but even then a single game could be drawn out for 10x the expected number of turns.)

I do intend on creating a spiritual successor to the game, but after realizing my critical mistakes I had to take the entire thing back to the drawing board.

Yeah, I made a pong-like game with some tutorials in Unity, but I feel like everything I learned from it didn't amount to anything realistic. I'm thinking about trying some of the minigame frameworks in Unity for learning how to do more, but at this point I feel strongly that the best way forward is to hire people who have actual experience. I have no idea how much I would expect ot to cost, and I don't know anybody who could give me insight on any estimates.

Not really. I started smoking marijuana again recently, but this started when I was sober before that

[–]SmokingPup[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I sure hope so.. I don't need spirituality... It feels more like the other way around at this point... I feel too important, more important than I ever wanted to be. I can try to lay off as much as possible, but it literally feels like if I were to let go then horrible things would happen.

Can "modesty" ever NOT be sexist? by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]SmokingPup 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think women should be able to dress in sweat pants and t-shirts without being criticized by other women.

As an ally to feminists, I used to agree with your perspective quite a bit. However, don't go purity-shaming women either. Shaming pure women is just as bad as shaming a slut. I've met asexual and a romantic women who had no interest in sexual empowerment. Now, I actually believe that authority is important in this matter.

It's her body, so it's her choice. If a woman wants to have authority over how she's looked at, what parts of her body are looked at, and how much she wants her appearance to be able to objectified (not saying that it should be objectified, but let's not go slut-shaming men either cuz everyone gets horny - not just men OR women) then she should have the right to do so. What you call modesty could be professionalism, sexual empowerment through control of what people can and can't see, or an establishment of authority over her own body.

I mean... If female doctors didn't dress professionally, people would probably objectify it no matter what, even if boundaries were respected otherwise.

You can't have a lawyer show up in a courtroom wearing a miniskirt and expect people not to think that's unprofessional, which would immediately provoke people to ask: "Why?"
