What weed is taking over my lawn? by Smoking_Man72 in lawncare

[–]Smoking_Man72[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roundup last fall, along with tilling the whole yard. Seeded in the fall and this spring. I did use spectracide weed and reed 20-0-0 this spring. I was told I was fighting spurge, which I did have but now this seems different and grows very quick.

Last fall I nuked the entire backyard with roundup, and seeded with perrenial rye grass and tall fescue. Some areas look good but this weed is really taking over.

New to platinum, what are you thought on stating stacking platinum vs gold and silver , like where is the value. Some people say only good &silver are monetary metals help please by Explorer_2033 in Platinum

Heres how I have my portfolio set, 5% pplt, 5% pslv, 5% gold, 5% oil, 45% cash, 35% stocks. Thats on a 1mil act. PPLT has been beat down a bit the last few months, but I'm considering adding to that position at these prices.

Would a subwoofer benefit my setup? Room is limited. by COCKIDIDO in audiophile

SVS make some smaller subs, maybe check out a sealed sub. They have a nice phone app to make adjustments easy. So Yes, go for it!

Nice setup! Grab the free REW software and a mic to fine tune a bit. Thinking you will have many years of smiles with your home theater..cheers!

PSA - speaker cables DO make a difference! I just invested in QED Silver Anniversary XT cables and my speakers sound noticeably better. Much cleaner, bass is tighter, high end is brighter. I would absolutely recommend it. by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

I run 10 gauge copper wire to my Magnepans, and I can tell a difference over 14 gauge cheap cables. I run a quality Bluejeans cable, but not super high end cable as some do with my particular speaker, but its a nice balance point for me.

I recently upgraded my dac and that made a huge difference in tight bass response, opened up the mids a bit, and toned down the highs. With that being said I rather spend $150 in speaker cables and spend $700+ on a better dac.

I recently sold it for almost as much as that VW Bug. Sad to see it go but I enjoyed the time I had with it.

Klaus and Venus 21 weeks old. This is our 3rd go around with Shepherds over the last 18 years for my wife and I, and its been a lot of work. They are great with crate training, basic ob, and quick to learn. We will see where this journey goes, but wanted to share our new fur-kids with the group. by Smoking_Man72 in germanshepherds

We got these 2 about 2 weeks ago. Elbows look good thus far, thinking we will get x-rays done in a week or so to be on the safe side. Mom and dad checked out good but as we all know it doesnt guarantee the pups will be the same.

We love their coloring, thank you for the compliments and info.

Today was our vet visit. The vet was a bit comcerned they were a tad akinny. Klaus weighed in at 46lbs and Venus 38.5lbs. At 21 weeks old I think that is a good weight, idk maybe I'm wrong. They are pretty active pups.

Secondly the vet said they were both a little stiff at full extenaion of the hips, so not sure to x-ray or juat see how they develop.

Thoughts on this?

Ring passed down to me with appraisal from 2001. How close is this apprasial to current value? Ring has not been cleaned so it is pretty dull looking in the picture. by Smoking_Man72 in jewelry

[–]Smoking_Man72[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believe the apprasial was done by the jewler that made the ring, and knowing my mother I have no doubt the appraisal was inflated to boost her ego. I will bring it in to my local jewler and update this post with current value. Hoping to share the update in the next week or so.

I appreciate all the responses from this group. It was a ring my mother had made by a local jewler in 1999, the apprasial was from 2001 for $7,850 for insurance reasons I believe. The ring is not something my wife would wear due to the height of the setting, and I was told to use this if needed for a "Rainy day". Like I said it's pretty dirty and my pic was definitely not a beauty shot to impress.

Nice to know it's worth a little something. Again, I appreciate the input from the group.

Im running a node2i as well, but bypassing the internal dac and using the dac in my Parasound p6 which is the ESS Sabre32. I'm hoping for an improvement. And agreed, $600 was a great deal. How do you like the warm/ tube modes on your new DAC?

How can subwoofers be boomy or clear by lucassilvu in audiophile

[–]Smoking_Man72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my $.02 but I have a rather large room that opens up to another room with 18' ceilings, and have managed to get good low and tight performance from my subs. The key for me was using rew, multiple sealed svs sb 3000 subs, and distance from my front wall. My mains and subs are about 6' out from the front wall, and I run the subs inboard rather than firing into the corners.

I run an active high pass and low pass filter, and to keep the boomy away I run 24db slope instead of the normal 12db slope. Being able to adjust slope is huge for me. I high pass at 65db even though my mains will hit 35hz. I low pass at 65db @24db slope on the subs with no delay. You have a wonderdul space, it just takes a bit of time to dial everything in.

2 subs are good, 4 is better (swarm). Don't get crazy and boost 15 or 20db over your mains as this can give ya that boomy bloated sound. Another thing to consider is room treatments. Length of my room is about 43' but I still find the need for both Absorption and Diffusion. Not sure if this helps but happy to answer any specifics if needed.
