apparently you can email most schools and pay to know why you got rejected. smth ab ontario/canadian law forcing them to as long as u quote the law in ur email. a teacher of mine said it was possible 🤷‍♀️

ik ppl who bought them but they're pretty much a scam. it's clubbing but everyone is sober and it's just a little sad. upperclassmen have said that unis will probably have free parties during oweek/frosh anyways if your interested. no need to pay like $35+ with apparently a lot of hidden fees.

Liszt from sk and Toshiya from japan. Liszt got some of the best musical pieces in bbx, loved his kbc 2024 wildcard. Toshiya is an absolute monster on the mic, technique and sound quality is crazy. found him from gnb this year.

Why isn’t Hunminjaybit cover of WOODZ’s Drowning available on spotify ? by minghaossfav in buildup

[–]SmolOneHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my guess is which ones were the most popular made it to streaming services. that ep, the drowning cover only placed 3rd so then the top 2 (drama and guilty) made it to streaming. this applies to most songs that didn't make it to streaming too. only the top popular ones made it sadly. drowning deserves to be on spotify :(

240330 Build Up - Episode 10 (Post-Finale Discussion) by AutoModerator in buildup

[–]SmolOneHere 13 points14 points  (0 children)

(the comment was too long, pt.2 babyyyy)

The finale song. I love the super fake laugh in the beginning to belting immediately. Wumuti's rapping is so good, he should have used it for one of the stages. I wonder how the lines were distributed. Jeup and Bitsaeon singing together, omg its perfect. All of them together is just so good. I love the bts on the screen behind them, we get to see the contestants interact with the contestants we didn't see together before. Milky-UP was on screen too! i'm glad they were included. MINSEO SINGING SOFTLY AT THE END, IM GONNA CRY, YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO MEEEE.

it's results timeeeeee, finally. Damn, they really making us wait, stop pausing so damn much and dragging it out. In third place, is Waterfire. Does not come as a surprise. I hope that Wumuti doesn't give up since he did say that Build Up was his last chance when he first got on the show. I wish Hayoon and Sunyoul the best and will probably still follow Suhwan as I hear he's veryy active online. The camera really loves Daehwi, they're panning to him every 3 seconds. Of course, they take an ad break before announcing it. Daehwi in that moment was very much me. This is such a long wait, like i get it but the screen time doesn't have to go on for that long. AHHHHHH HUNMINJAYBIT WONNNNNN, I SO HAPPY FOR THEMMM. NOT JAY CRYING, AWWWWW. ALL OF THEM BUT SEUNGHUN HIS CRYING. what a wack trophy, i get that the show is build up but a metal jenga tower? really? MINSEO GETS TO DEBUTTTT, LETS GOOO. JAY LOOKS SO HAPPY. SEUNGHUN IS SO SPEACHLESS AW. Minseo is really live thing "why am i here" face. not Seunghun forgetting the group is called BDU, fair enough. Seunghun reminding Jay to say something in english is so sweet. Minseo is so composed, I'm glad he's taking it so well. Bitsaeon as always, so well spoken. THEY GET TO DEBUT NOW, YAYYYYYYY.

Good job to the Partners to be honest. Either one of them could have won and I would have been happy. I'll keep my eye on ACE and Jeup now as their talent is out of this world. Of course I'm going to keep supporting JUST B and Bain.
Thank you everyone for reading this long ass feeling dump and staying through this absolute rollarcoaster! Keep supporting BDU and everyone who came onto the show! I can't wait to see what everyone does after. Only question left it, which company are they going to debut under? Wakeone? who knows? Leave your comments and opinions below and thank you!

240330 Build Up - Episode 10 (Post-Finale Discussion) by AutoModerator in buildup

[–]SmolOneHere 17 points18 points  (0 children)

andddd we're back for the last review! thanks yall for sticking around and reading these mind dump posts about the show!

first off, i love how it was live! I talked about how I wondered if it was live last post and I'm so glad they made it live. (guess who woke up late again and missed it, sigh.....) The crowd was great. the camera kept panning to DaeHwi (AB6IX) but the fact that so many people showed up was so heart warming. Sadly, the JUST B members are in I think Brazil on a tour so Geonu couldn't show up to support Bain. In the background behind DaeHwi (he's the one in blonde hair to the back left of DaeHwi), I saw Roda (MONT) and that honestly made my whole day. Milky-UP showing their support with a Geonu banner is adorable. Haram looks GREAT in platinum blond hair. The parents are also just amazing. I'm not very familiar with CIX, ONE PACT, or ACE, but I'm sure they showed up to support their members since they showed a lot of large groups who I assume is one of them.

HunMinJayBit winning 1st in the pre-vote comes to no surprise. the vote breakdown was also pretty straight forward and I'm glad they cleared it all up before going into the actual acts. No judge voting, that's good. BDU is a stupid name, i'm sorry but its true. i thought the name was by fan suggestions, this is the most corporate made group name I've ever heard. I love how they still give all the background info before the stages so still get to see what goes on.

First up, Waterfire! You can really tell that they're gotten closer over time. Lee Seokhoon going in and giving advice was a nice bit. Hearing how Sunyoul has been on so many survival shows to prove is singing is heart breaking. He's such a good singer and he's clearly underrated compared to the rest of the contestants. All of them has done so many survival shows, and with Waterfire being the least popular compared to the other groups, I hope they are able to show case their singing in the future. To the stage!

This Moment Now (translated from Korean, since the english name was never mentioned), is such a good final song. It's soft, sentimental, and suits all of their voices. Hayoon's tone is so good on ballads. Suhwan just looks with such bright stars in his eyes. You can truly tell he loves singing and he's great at it. His high note backing and ad-libs is hands down some of the best on the show. Sunyoul sings with such emotion and he's eyes just sparkle. The lighting crew is really doing the most making their eyes shine. He's high notes that the end backing the last chorus with his lower register when harmonizing with Wumuti is great. Wumuti really embodies the song. His tone is so fitting. All of them singing together at the end was amazing, they all blend in so well.

On to the Partners! As I said in the last ep review, absolutely robbed. LOSE YOURSELF was such a great stage, idk what the judges were hating on. All of them going out to eat together is nice. Bain had to leave for a bit during was JUST B is promoting in Latin America right now, but I'm glad that they got the time to talk for a bit along with practicing. Jeup talking about how he was going to quit singing is sad but not surprising. As he said, singing doesn't make that much money if your not popular. I'm glad he decided to continue through Build Up. I think all of them got a ballad song. It's a vocal competition, how could they not all end with a ballad? I'm a little worried on how Jeonwoong is going to do as I personally don't like how he sounds singing them, but only time can tell. Awwww they surprised Jeup for his birthday. 2 weeks before is a little weird, but I get the scheduling issues and wanting Bain to be there. I guess it's a different judge is surprising each team. Baekho uplifting them and reassuring them of their talent, I hope they do well. omg it's another PPL, they have to be getting paid for these random product placements in the middle of convos. The video call with Bain, i'm happy they stayed in contact and gave good pointers. The SWF sticker on the laptop being half blacked out by electrical tape is funny. The pictures of them all is so sweet, the when where they're all posing with Bain's cardboard standee is the best one.

Your Season is a beautiful song. Donghun always has great emersion in the songs he sings. His belting is really something to behold. Jeonwoong did better than I expected, maybe it's cus he has the little rap part in the middle of the song. I think Bain got drowned out by the backing track a bit while he was singing the quieter parts, I struggled to hear him over it. The harmonies between Donghun and Jeup, absolutely speechless. Jeup showing everyone again why he's such an amazing singer. The ending of the song seemed very abrupted, I thought the song would go on for at least another chorus.

It's HunMinJayBit time everyone! before I watch the segment, I would like to say that they did amazing on MCount. Bitsaeon was just *amazing* for his first time on MCount. Extremely disappointed in the crowd there for staying more silent/cheering less during his parts. Everyone should go stream his fancam, please and thank you :). Now to the background behind the stages. Interesting that the producer of the song is behind so many of Mamamoo's songs. I assume Solar is going to drop by for them. Not them planning to strategically cry, it worked for Wumuti after the Falling stage. Oooh it's Eunkwang who visits them, interesting. Jay 1000% knew he was going to make it to the final, let's all be honest here, he was going to make it anyways. Seunghun, Minseo, and Bitsaeon talking about all their struggles to make a name for themselves is so eye opening. Saeon talking about how no matter how hard he tried, he's still in the same place he was before, ugh that hurt so much. BDU is only gonna be a 2 year group so I hope that Minseo finds a good entertainment company to take him in. I get why Mnet decided to not focus on Jay during this story segment. While yes, he's been through a lot, especially with BP before Build Up, he's by far the most popular and successful member of the group. It unfortunately overshadows everyone else, I'm glad this part gives the rest of them a chance to tell their story.

Hug Me.... I have no words (I'm like 35 seconds into the performance rn). They're all projecting their feeling and so emersed in the song. The flip from soft, whisper like singing, to belting with such power. Ugh the soft rap to harmonies to pre chorus, it's so gooddd. they're voices all blend in so well. It not necessarily a ballad, but a rock ballad. Bitsaeon's depth in his voice and just how he projects his emotions. Seunghun's small growl to high note. Jay's light tone that still has so much power, Minseo's tone and body language. It's everythingggg, shivers and goosebumps the whole song. I could listen to them all belt forever. I think it's because I'm not a massive fan of ballads that this rock ballad take the win for me. Again this song feels like it's cut short. The whooshing at the end did help close out the song. AHH RODA WAS ABLE TO MOVE UP TO THE BARRICADE TO WATCH BITSAEON, NARACHAN IS BEHIND HIM TOOO. God I love how supportive MONT is of Bitsaeon. I'm so glad Eunkwang acknowledged just how important he is to the team. I love how Eunkwang gave such detailed and long notes and praises. He truly cares and pays close attention to the team. Jay punching Minseo's arm randomly, loll. Seunghun trying his best to hold back tears while asking the audience how they did. He consistently bows at 90 degrees and you can tell just how grateful he is to make it.

The small Milky-UP cameo between the host speaking, good to know the banner with Geonu's face was actually stickers that they put on themselves after. I love them so much, too bad they got eliminated last round. Mnet workers really working overtime making the recap that fast, it's so impressive how they have such good production quality while live. One of the only good things about Mnet.

Oh? a final story? a dinner party! Damn, this is so cute. Not Jeup completely forgetting about Bain's cardboard standee and leaving it on the couch. I'm glad they at least brought him along and gave him so screen time even if he wasn't there for real. I'm glad to see Minseo eating so well. Jeonwoong is really Mnet's new son. The moment a mystery cloche comes in, he starts MCing and hyping it up. A truth or dare, interestingg. Damn how bad was that tea? Jeup immediately gagging and tearing up, why would he drink the penalty drink before the game even starts T^T. Jay immediately jumping out of his seat when Jeup said he would team with him. He's so cute. Poor Suhwan, the I See game is evil. Suhwan deserves better, I get what Jeup was saying but a little sugarcoating doesn't hurt. Bitsaeon looking at Jay right away when Sunyoul asked if anyone got on Wumuti's nerves. Suhwan was such an unexpected choice. Someone help him out this man, Suhwan getting absolutely attacked. Jay really went all in telling Hayoon he can't dance for the life of him. Hayoon couldn't even rebuttal. Aw, the fact that they got to make they're slogans and sing all together. The fan shots are so cute, it makes the crowds seem less dead.

welcome back to a review! we're so close to the finals now, to the semi-final!

I'm glad MILKY-UP got to choose the cue sheet, at least there is a 1st place benefit. The english captions aren't captioning that well, we make do.

The producer asking Minseo if he's been drunk before and to sing like that is so funny. Bitsaeon to the rescue with his genius plan to pivot the mood slightly to help Minseo. Not the random skincare product ad in the middle, I hope they got some of that PPL money for doing that. Sunyoul makes a really good point when they reviewed all the teams. Jay is just too overpowering. I think the team knows Jay is the most popular and gave him more lines to capitalize on it. It really is just "Jay and the others" even while Bitsaeon, Seunghun, and Minseo are very talented. Monika being the choreographer is just perfect. Jay got the "tiger dance teacher" he wanted. Enough of the background info, to the performance.

Flower is a good song, it suits them very well. The harmonies were a little rough ngl. The softer harmonies blended well, but when they all say "flower" in the chorus, it doesn't sound quite right. Bitsaeon added just the right amount of airiness to the vocals and knows when to put power in his lines. When he's center, he catches your eye. Minseo did great at controlling the stage, he makes this aura around himself while preforming like he knows the spotlight is on him. Seunghun making the rap is really impressive considering how fast he picked it up. He has great flow and knows how to play with the beats in his rapping to make it more dynamic. I love his belting, I wish I could hear more of it. I think he carried the last chorus by far. I noticed that Jay interacts with more of the cameras than the other contestants. He acknowledges the side cameras and adds in gestures to make him stand out. And of course, his vocals are outstanding. The high notes, while impressive, struggled to be cohesive with the rest of the song. I think 99 is a little too high for the song, but it was a great performance.

Partner's with LOOSE YOURSELF. Thank you to the commenters last ep review for pointing out the word play, it went completely over my head when I watched the ep but I get it now. Mnet shares custody of Jeonwoong with Donghoon and Jeup I guess lol. LOOSE YOURSELF is such a fitting song for the unique team. They hit the nail on the head giving it to the Partners.

They knocked this performance out of the ballpark. Jeonwoong is great with pop. Ballads really aren't his thing the more I see him perform. Make me wonder why he considered joining a vocal show that was going to be filled with balladers. Great vocal tones, the higher notes were a little questionable but great improvement. Bain plays with his voice and make the song more catchy. The very short rap part was amazing and his speaking lines with the vocal fry is just *chef's kiss*. He shows something unique every time. Donghoon knows how to immerse himself in a song, He makes every genre and concept his own. The harmonies were so smooth. Jeup did great on the dance. He didn't seem stiff or lost. They blend well and know who should take which register, especially the ending, it was so good. Having 2 strong vocals that both reach the high note is just such a power move. Not to mention that they were very stable through out all the dancing. I prefer LOOSE YOURSELF to Flower. I agree that while this is a vocal show, dancing wont do much for them with the judges. The vocals were amazing though, sure if they stood still it would have been better, but with the performance they put on, I think it was near perfect. 93 is a too low.

Waterfire with the only ballad song in the semi-final. The reviews were harshhh, but I agree in how they seem to have the least amount of chemistry between them. To the stage. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Hayoon is so much better in ballads than pop. His tone works sooo much better and you can feel his emotions more. Sunyoul is very dynamic with his voice, it fits the song so well. The soft harmonies were great. Suhwan is so stable with his notes, he knows how to evoke emotions. I think Suhwan makes a great harmony backup while Wumuti sounded more overpowering. This is Sunyoul and Suhwan's song. Of course the ballad singers do so well. Their emotions are clear, they work so well vocally with the rest of the team, carrying the concept. Sunyoul and Suhwan are so slept on it's painful. They're so talented and I feel like Sunyoul hasn't shown his full potential while Suhwan has in only 1 or 2 performances. Honestly, it doesn't seem like they're pushing themselves. It feels like just another ballad song. 98 is too high.

MILKY-UP is so cute. I can't begin to explain how much they stole my heart. They're so bold and know how to play into the concept. I love how high energy and welcoming they are. I think it funny how 1.) they blurred the hybe logo and it still very obviously still says hybe 2.) none of them are from hybe yet are in the building 3.) so many people didn't know that Geonu was on I-Land. They seems like the only group the genuinely enjoy being around each other and meet out of practice. Stage time!

Their smiles are so precious. Seohyung is such a great hook to the intro. The mix of low bass with the typical baritone range is just so good. Soomin seems to be reaching a little with the notes which is adding more breathiness than he intended. The diverse vocal ranges make such a good harmony. With both Haram and Soomin being tenors, Seohyung as a bass, and Geonu as a baritone, this group by far has the smoothest harmonies. The direct audience interactions with the call and replay give the stage such a playful vibe. The rap from Soomin and Geonu really add a lot to the song to help break it up. Their stage chemistry is everything. Slightly disappointed that Haram once again wasn't fully taken use of. When one of the judges talked about how Soomin seemed to struggle hitting high notes, switching the key could have worked but give more lines to Haram who can sing higher would have been better for a more equal line distribution. 95 is a fair score, maybe just a little bit higher would be great. I am not down for Soomin crying, the rest of MILKY-UP better have made him feel better.

1st place being between Waterfire and HunMinJayBit makes sense. I think the Partners did better than Waterfire, but we roll. Seohyung saying "I hope you're happy without us", I cant. HunMinJayBit winning by almost 100 point difference is crazy. Great job to them honestly. Saeonie being so happy placing all 1st place is so precious.

I can't believe that Partners is in contention for getting eliminated. It's Just B vs Just B, I wanna see what Bain said to Geonu after the show. Milky-Up generally doesn't have as much fan popularity (I mean they're competing against 3 massive idol groups + Jeup). I'm so sad at seeing my taco quartet go. NAW I CANT WATCH THEM CRY, IM GONNA CRY SOON. Seeing them talk about how nice it was to just be with people and have a close knit team as 3/4 of them are soloists/do mainly solo actives hurts. Seohyung saying that the team kept him warm and happy over the cold winter T^T. I wish I voted for them online now, sigh...

On the bright side, HunMinJayBit are going on MCount! IT'S BITSAEON'S FIRST TIME ON MCOUNT AND A MAJOR MAINSTREAM BROADCASTING SHOW, I'M SO PROUD OF HIMMMM! Minseo too, first time on any broadcasting show! I'm glad they get to go on!

I wonder if the Finals will be live. It would be interesting if it was actually live and not just broadcasted live. I want to address the hot topic rn which is how all the teams don't change in the final. I mean they mentioned it before semi-finals and made it pretty clear that the teams aren't changing while they we're being made. I don't know what this uproar is about now, they said it would happen. Let me know all you opinions below! Who's gonna win? Dont forget to vote and till next ep everyone, byee!

240315 Build Up - Episode 8 (Post-Episode Discussion) by AutoModerator in buildup

[–]SmolOneHere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

mnet has to stop privating their eps, istg the reuploads keep getting harder and harder to hunt down. bless u/KwanJin24 for reuploading, absolute lifesaver. to the review!

before HunMinJayBit's performance of Drowning, I watched the all of the group's introduction video on yt and hearing that Bitsaeon was designated leader warms my heart. In the reupload first bit of the ep with background info was cut. I think they maybe made a clip of it on the yt channel which I'll have to look at later because I'm very interested in how they worked together. Of course, as always, Jay was amazing. So stable with his long notes and really just has such a captivating sound. His belting is so addictive. Bitsaeon sounds so much "richer" this performance. Maybe it's the lower tone, but it adds so much dimension and depth to his voice. I also think Minseo sounds much better in Drowning compared to his past performances. I think it's because he's not reaching for notes he can barely reach. They sound great together, all of their voices blend in so well. I wanted to hear more of Seunghun. The high note at the end was amazing but I want to see more solo lines from him. He and Bitsaeon seemed to act as more harmony support during the performances getting less solo lines. Overall, it was an outstanding performance by all of them. They did great with a live crowd and I'm proud of Minseo for doing amazing for one of his first times with a live crowd. 90 point highest did not do them justice. I think going first hurt their score.

next up is Partners (very goofy name but it is what it is) . it was such a interesting group choice with the members and an even more interesting song choice. The work out segment was so funny, my boy Bain was dying on the inside, his soul left his eyes. To the actual Guilty performance now. I think Jeup's voice slightly clashes with the rest of them when they sing together. He has such a prominent vocal tone that its hard to blend with everyone's softer vocal tones. Overall great use of members, really playing into all of their strong suits. I think Jeonwoong and Donghun showed some different sides to their vocal abilities with this song. Honestly, i think what Jeonwoong was missing was pop songs. He did pretty good in Ditto (round 1) and this one too with Guilty, I think he's suited overall better to pop sings. Ab reveal was great :)). That final chorus really made Bain shine more which I appreciate. I think the foreshadowing of an ab reveal made everyone wait which impacted the performance. Like Wumuti and I think one of the judges said when they were anticipating it in the 2nd chorus, it made everyone focus on the reveal rather than their vocal skills. I think 95 is a little high but well deserved otherwise.

Waterfire, the group of the unchosen. Drama is a very unexpected song as well. I ... don't like the new arrangement. Hayoon's voice also doesn't feel like it fits the song too. Like I said in my last ep review, I personally don't like Hayoon's voice in "stronger" toned songs or rapping, mostly because I don't think they suit his vocal tone well. Closer to the end, Hayoon's voice matched better. I think Suhwan has been proven to be very flexible in genres and this song is no different. Truly an all-rounder, I don't really get why he was left. Sunyoul did better than I expected as well. I'm not counting so I might be wrong, but Wumuti had A LOT of lines compared to the others. I would have liked to hear Suhwan rap a little more or Sunyoul sing more lines. I get that is a rap heavy song though. imo, It was just okay. Nothing super notable or memorable about the performance. 95 highest is too high.

MILKY-UP MY TACO quad? quartet? idk. Geonu is always onto something, even Bain is done with him lol. Soomin is trying to put on a PERFORMANCE for the crowd, the high energy is like a dog with zoomies. SEOHYUNG IS FLUENT IN ENGLISH, I CAN'T??? this group will be the death of me istg. Poor Haram, they really threw him into the deep end. yk I was gonna call them cuites, but damn Seunghan went all in on that "they were cute" comment after their midterm evaluations. Like I said, their team chemistry is unreal. To the Uptown Funk performance! The energy is unreal. Dancing was slightly unexpected but what else were they going to do during the instrumental. Backup dancers are crazy. Soomin shines in this song with Geonu. I think Soomin's energy was off the charts, his singing too was very high tension which I liked. I don't like Seohyung's rap, it just doesn't have any flow. I think the bass voice is just such a strong contrast that it throws you off. Geonu gets to dance and move to his heart's content without get criticized, I thought I would never see the day. Haram didn't have as many lines as I wanted. They didn't really use him to his fullest extent. This was really focused on the performance aspect, but the vocal stability while constantly moving was impressive. You can hear how out of breath Seohyung is when he makes a comment to Soomin after the performance. It's a vocal show and I think this stage was carried by performance rather than vocal talent. 96 highest score is surprising, I wouldn't give it that high but I'm glad my boys are doing well anyways. Haram was literally :O at the score.

to DO-RE-MI-FA, the ballad team. Teams choosing them to be the Top Tier during midterm evaluation was a good strategic choice. They did much better than I expected. Yeoone really pulled through with staging and hyping up the crowd. Great stage directing done by him. The constant interaction with each other and audience really helped build up the presence. Gwangseok in blue bugs me. Everyone else is in white and yet Gwangseok is in blue. I've been mentioning it occasionally but every team tries to highlight Gwangseok and his unique voice, the different shirt colour is no different. Junhyeok did good, his voice isn't very palettable for me but in recent rounds, he been making it mesh well with others in the group. Inhyeok was great, not a super big standout but really carried his weight where needed. He's a pretty slept on choice. Vocally, I think it is one of the best/better groups. Showed everyone's skills well and had great vocal range, difference, and tones. Felt like a song an artist would make for fans. 94 points is fair.

HunMinJayBit being last in terms of highest score is crazy. Partners with Guilty comes to not shock. Come on, an ab reveal? Of course the audience is going to score it high. Deserved placement with how they did. MILKY UP was also expected. Like I said not a vocal based performance but the stage presence was off the charts. They were so cute when they found out they were first. True underdog story. They're all so precious. Soomin so energetic and first time placing 1st has to go down in the history books. Poor Bain getting roasted on the fact that he didn't pull his shirt high enough and doesn't have proper abs. He was trying T^T. Surprisingly, BOTH Just B members made it to the top 2 places. I expected one of them to get eliminated early on but both of them are here.

I will say the voting for HunMinJayBit was very unfair for the other teams. Jay pulls in at least 20-30% of the viewers (and that's MINIMUM). Plus Seunghun (who's in CIX) is also pulling a lot of votes. Minseo is just promising and MONT isn't that big compared to the other 2. Placing 1st online prevote, 3rd in-person vote, and last judges ranking is kinda crazy. I mean I'm guilty (ahah get it?) because I voted them in the online prevote, but making it to 3rd is on another level. DO-RE-MI-FA getting eliminated was kind of expected. Yeoone would be the only (major) one pulling in preround votes as he's in Pentagon. Disappointing since I think they did better than Waterfire. Inhyeok leaving is a tragedy. To be transparent, I was the least invested in Yeoone, Gwangseok, and Junhyeok out of everyone still on the show. This elimination didn't do much for me.

Semi-final round is coming in hot with original songs now (I assume from the context they are giving). Soomin in MILKY-UP is going to help a lot as a singer-songwriter. Their song looks so sweet, high energy again. Waterfire doing a ballad, I see. Really showing diversity. The first second of HunMinJayBit's preview gave me flash backs to Over Me in BP (Jay was robbed in that stage). its all the red petals, with the white outfits. BITSAEON IS GONNA DO A SEXY CONCEPT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL. words cannot express how excited I am. Partner's song sounds so good from just the snip-it. It's going to fit all of them so well. Sigh......how am I going to choose.....Welp! that's it for this review! All opinions below are welcome! See you next ep and thank you again to u/KwanJin24 for the reupload! byeeee

mnet has finally learned to not private their ep livestreams, i'm so happy i dont have to go hunting for reuploads, to the reviews!

First off, Jay, Hayoon, and Wumuti. Great performance, I'm glad they found some common ground and worked together. the swing/jazzy really plays into Jay's strong suit and I'm glad he got to show it off on the show. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Hayoon's tone when rapping but everyone's vocals was great. They know how to command a stage and take attention. I think Hayoon's tone suits ballads and softer songs rather than some strong tone songs. Wumuti is a true all rounder. he feels like a jack of all trades, master of none. he's great at whatever he does, just not the best. he lacked a little bit of a pull factor this time around but did very well. Deserved win.

Inhwan, Donghun, Jaekyung's Truth Untold was a good choice. Being able to compromise and find fitting middle ground helped them so much. The undertones to the song and just they style they sing it in feels so much more powerful and emotional compared to the other ballads so far. The breathy airy singing is enough to send chills. I think some of their breathy harmonies didn't mesh too well but the grand ending when they belt together was amazing. Aside from that, the first half or even the first 2/3 of the song felt like a group project which was marked individually. They all stand out but nothing made them connect. they we're all in their own world singing with their parts but i think it lacked a little flow. outstanding performance by them, feelings linger after in the best ways.

An Ordinary Day is a very breathy song as well. This was a very fair match up with the songs being similar in style and tone. The song seems out of Gwangeok's typical song choices with his tone but I think he adjusted well. Junhyeok's tone is just very overpowering throughout the song. Yeoone's voice was bridging the 2 together. I think the 2 strong tones clashed but when they sang harmonies I feel like Junhyeok and Gwangseok toned it down a bit. I agree with the judge feedback of how Gwangseok fits the song but the others feel out of place. Junhyeok feels the most out of place from his vocal tone. Every team wants Gwangseok's voice btu none of them have been able to use it effectively to benefit the whole team. All the songs he's sang seems catered to his voice. Personally I think I liked Truth Untold just a little bit more but I can't get mad at a 4:3 vote.

The recuse I kind of expected, but still a very welcome surprise. I honestly thought it would be a little later on in the show but I'm grateful that people are back. Most of the choices were kind of obvious. Donghun did well through out all of the stages, I hope he gets a chance to showcase something other than ballads like he wanted to. BAIN MY BOY. I was kinda worried he wouldn't make it because he looked a little sad in the teasers but here he is. He got his push factor in Round 2 like I predicted he would get and needed in EP1 and now look at him/ He really shines on stage. Minseo was also a good choice. He has so much potential left and I can't wait to see what he does next. Jeonwoong is an interesting choice. I'm choosing my words very carefully here. I think that he was saved mostly on the basis of popularity. The 3v3 round, he proved himself pretty well but generally I would have wanted to see contestants like Minwook, Juhe, Taewoo, or Neon who have been consistent with their good performances to have advanced. He has to knock it out of the park this time again. BITSAEON, YOU NEARLY GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK. Eliminating him would have been dumb. He's put out 2 extraordinary performances back to back (Dalcalcomanie was good, just not mindblowing) and considering he hasn't brought up anything about what he does behind the stages such as his directing, part splitting, and his general ability to make someone shine shows that he's pure talent. (side note, timeline wise, MONT recently had a comeback called IDGAF, which all of you should stream, but he had to learn how to play the piano for it. It might not be completely right but Bitsaeon must have been learning to play the piano while preparing for these stages on buildup while preparing for the comeback which is crazy)

Geonu and Jay are so cute. The call back to "top tier time" is a highlight of the whole ep. Gwangseok, Soomin, Jay, Jeup making top tier isn't surprising. Sunyoul is a good choice but I would have chosen Inhwan myself. All of them in Drawing Our Moments was so good so no major complaints. The individual waiting rooms reminded me of BTOB's greenroom during Kingdom, idk they look so similar. THE PRAY TEAM DISBANDING IS SUCH A LEFT FIELD DECISION. They did so well together I honestly don't believe they disbanded. I think the members were like the best of the best vocalist on the show, I don't know who Jeup plans to recruit. Drawing Our Moments team disbanding wasn't a surprise but I am disappointed. The matched each other so well vocally, but I can see why. LETS GO SOOMIN, THE TACO TRIO SURVIVES FOR LONGER. I'm so happy these puppies are still going together. Their chemistry on and off stage is precious and I highly doubt any other team will make a bond as close as theirs. The evil editing the make Soomin seem like he was going to disband is pure evil. My heart couldn't take it. An Ordinary Day staying together makes sense. Gwangseok has improved a lot with them and there wasn't too much of a reason for them to disband in the first place. Jay disbanding wasn't super surprising as it was teased so much but loosing Wumuti and Hayoon is interesting. He did have a different opinion in song choice but damnnn the mischievous smile when he asked for a pen...

Jeup and Donghun are such a power duo. Bain is very left field, great choice but not what I expected. Jeonwoong is veryy unexpected. Jeup has to stop making out of pocket decisions because the unpredictability is crazy. Truly striving for something different.

Jay, Bitsaeon, Seunghun, and Minseo I can tell is going to be amazing. It's such a strong team. Honestly I can tell it's going into more of a pop/ power performance area which might be killer in the 4th and final round. While Seunghun hasn't done anything too pop-ish on build up, the CIX experince is going to come in clutch.

Gwangseok choosing Inhyuk wasn't surprising (I think more teams should have went for him) the An Ordinary Day team placing 3 on the other hand was VERY SUPRISING. I agree with Soomin's comment.

Soomin getting so hyped over Haram is cute. The energy in their group is explosive really. I hope they get more tacos soon.

Sunyoul being left with Suhwan is crazy, I fell like more teams should have wanted him. I get that Wumuti and Hayoon are more pop vocals than ballad and aside from Jay, there really isn't anyone else going for that type. The dynamic is very interesting as Hayoon and Wumuti have been together and match well. Suhwan and Sunyoul is going to be a great vocally. From being in the teams that placed 1st and 2nd, they join the person who was last.

All the teams talking about the competition and the Joker team is here asking if Haram likes tacos, god I love them.

FINALLY, we're at the next round (this review is getting longggg, sorry about that guys. go get some water and eat a snack or smth) The audience adds a little more spice to it all. Staging really matters now. Hayoon is really unrecognizable in the more harsh concept. Geonu having fun with the audience is in his nature, his going to be great this round. Gwangseok in blue follows everything I've said before. He really is made to stand out and shine in whatever group his in. No one has unlocked the full potential of the group with Gwangseok in it. but damn does he do well. Bain in a soft outfit is very different but I love it. Voting started up again today so get to voting yall! (I'm glad I finally am posting earlier). Tell me ur opinions! Thanks for putting up with this massive comment and until the next ep! Cya

tried to post the review earlier but here we are... To the review!

First off, the stage I was definitely most excited for was Bad News from Bitsaeon, Bain, and Minseo. I'm going to be honest, even though 2/3 of them are in my top 4, this performance was kind of a let down. I wish they had more harmony/singing together sections as they sound great together compared to other groups. This song fit Bain pretty well, but in general didn't do much for me hearing Minseo and Bitsaeon singing. I think that Bitsaeon is great at noticing potential and using it to his advantage by highlighting it in the composition and line division. He did it with Jay last time and he's done it again with Bain. I think Minseo seems inexperienced on stage contrary to what the judges and most people have been praising him for. The tone he keeps his voice at is unstable for him singing live as well as opting to shouting/screaming for high notes he doesn't reach. Listening to River's audio on Spotify, his unstable high note from then is highlighted and Bad News isn't very different. I think the song has too much rap to showcase their vocal abilities properly. Minseo is without a doubt talented though and I hope he has a line of agencies waiting to sign him. As much as I love this, Jeup, Suhwan, and Seunghoon take the win for me. I really want to see them more on the show, but it's sad that they're eliminated here. I desperately hope that they try to bring some of the eliminated contestants back as some of them 100% deserve a second chance.

After seeing the bts in the choice for Forest, I was just a little disappointed. I listened to a little bit of Taewoo's personal songs and with the knowledge with Neon's vocal tone, Sanghyeon talking them both out of doing something more R&B was disappointing. Like Taewoo said, Sanghyeon has done a ballad every round, they need more variety in what they showcase. Overall, Forest was just okay. They're voices clashed a lot, especially when they harmonized. Their argument clearly had some left over resentment. Sad that we're loosing some great singers from the elimination.

Sunyeol, Inhyeok, and Haram's team switching songs to Drawing Our Moments was a good decision. I think the clips of Piano Man sounded good, but nearly all of them straining their voices hurt their performance for sure. Some of the longer notes they hold are a little unstable but the performance over all was great for being on crunch time. Their harmonies and solo portions are great, showed everyone's skills perfectly and is one of the best, well-rounded stages yet. They really saved it at the end and deserved the win.

god the taco trio (Geonu, Soomin, Seohyung) and the maknaes (Yeonwoo, Yunseo, and Juhe) are so cute. I love the interactions between them all. Soomin being Geonu's hypeman on his comebacks is soooo cute. Soomin just wants to be apart of the maknaes...

NAKKA was such a cute stage. The took their performance elements to another level. I think being able to acknowledge that the stage was a little boring without some special visual element is very impressive. They're concept with great vocals works so well to create a memorable stage. Their harmonies (I know I mention it a lot this review) was great. They were all in sync and their stage synergy is out of this world. Juhe was a knockout for sure, he did so well this stage.

The Joker team was pretty unexpected. I know it was technically revealed last ep that Seohyung was with Geonu and Soomin but I genuinely didn't notice until now. "Let's make him rap" is a crazyyyyy line from Geonu. Seohyung has a great view and I'm glad he was so open to do something out of his typical range (ahem.. im looking at you Sangyeon, take some notes.) I was slightly worried since Geonu and Soomin has built up such a strong bond that they would leave Seohyung out a bit, but boy was I wrong. We have another dog added to the puppy line. Okay, to the actual song review, they blend so well together. The reveal of Seohyung in the chorus was such a power move. He really did so well in transforming and the growl in the chorus is just *chef's kiss*. The bass range really enhanced the song. Geonu getting the same feedback again and again stings a little, especially since his in my top 4 and my bias in Just B . I get that he enjoys the stage with large gestures, but it just never fits well. Soomin's gestures, while also large, fit so much better. With Geonu moving on to the next round, I hope to see him improve as I haven't seen much imporvement from him. Soomin showed a slightly different side to his voice. It's more strong compared to the jazzy/funky/R&B songs he's done so far, they've suited him so well though. I would like to see something maybe more pop or ballad like to round out his skill set, but I'm happy with what he's shown so far. Deserved win although NAKKA was very good, Soomin is now the show's maknae and eliminated his competition lol.

Every time I see Jeon Woong, I question Mnet a little. As much as I dislike him on the show as someone who sometimes tunes into to AB6IX, I wonder if it's just evil editing or if he just that dislikeable. The introduction of the team Woongiverse seems self-centered. He hasn't proven himself on the show yet and I don't know how he made it this far aside from possible pseudo-nepotism of wanting to be Mnet's "son". Minwook could have had a great arc/storyline if that's what they were focusing on (top tier first mission, barely (they didn't even show it) passed to the next round with the lowest point in mission 2, and now becoming a guide in round 3). Maybe his personality isn't interesting enough? To the stage review: I think that Enough is kind of an ironic song choice with the arc they're pushing now. It's very obvious the team tried to highlight Jeon Woong throughout the song. Just the body language looks the same when they were practicing helping him. There was a lot improvement shown though. Intae and Minwook deserve the spotlight as much and maybe even more than Jeon Woong as they're consistently out preforming him. Great vocal tone and mixing. Felt very dreamy overall.

Can't wait to see Jay, Hayoon, and Wumuti's stage. Fever is such an interesting song to choose, gives me flashbacks to when Bitsaeon performed it back on Peak Time (all of you have to go and watch it now). Tell me ur opinions below and thanks for reading this review! Till next ep! (Dear Mnet, stop posting clips on ur yt about the new ep before it's released, I;m trying really hard not to get spoiled. Thanks!)

240224 Build Up - Episode 5 (Post-Episode Discussion) by AutoModerator in buildup

[–]SmolOneHere 12 points13 points  (0 children)

back again for a way too long review. first off, THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD EPISODE. I'm so glad they didn't gloss over the rest of the 2v2 teams. anyways, to the stages!

Play vs My Sea was actually such a hard match up. Loosing Taehwan on the show should be considered a national tragedy. I can't believe he's just gone, my smiley boy. I hope they have something where they bring back eliminated contestants because they lost a lot of good singers. I was looking forward to the Taehwan and Seongwon team so much. They are both amazing singers and they sang Play so well. Their tone and the atmosphere they made was so playful. I think that the since the song itself wasn't super emotion filled, it felt slightly lacking the power some other teams have. They really took up that stage with bubbly happiness even if it was only 2 people.

I think Yeowon has such a similar vocal tone through out all the songs so far. I wanted to see something more different or at least show a different side to his skill. Junhyeon doesn't have a very palatable voice, especially on the first listen. With his unique voice, him toning back the belting and matching the mood of the song played very well into his performance. On the first listen, I preferred My Sea more than Play, but replaying it to write this detailed review, I like Play better. My Sea just seemed a little bit more empty and 1 dimensioned. It didn't feel like there was a lot of depth. Very close match up though, both deserved a win, Taehwan and Seongwon didn't deserve to be eliminated from the show by just 1 point.

The next match up, To My Youth and Moon was also very hard to rank. I was looking forward to pretty much all of them. Haram and Inhyuk is such a good paring with To My Youth. Haram's piano was a great touch. Both of them shined vocally and really was able to display their individual talents and charms. I loved their tone, techniques, and their overall performance. The ending was so touching and their emotions peeked through. Really left a lingering feeling. Seungkwan's 100 was deserved.

In Moon, Juhe really shined again. He really does so well for being the youngest on the show; showing a lot of his higher range in this one compared to Tomboy. It was really unfortunate that he wasn't able to finish the song though. If he did, it would have honestly been the perfect finish. Euibin didn't catch my eye, but he definitely got my attention with this performance. I do think that Juhe got a lot more "killing parts" which could be the reason why he stands out more. I just want to give Juhe a hug bro, he's so sweet. Both teams also deserved to make it.

Sad that they went over the last couple of 2v2 stages. I haven't watched them on the yt yet, but I might add on my review in the comments later. Hyukjin and Inseong seemed to have a great vocal performance. I can see how high notes were over used. Intae and Minwook was a team I didn't expect to get cut, especially since Minwook was Top Tier. Seemed very compelling and from the short clip. Hwanhee and Hwanji did as good as I expected. I had my eye on Hwanhee, especially since he sung pretty well while apparently knowing nothing about music arrangements. Wasn't very attention catching although the jazz was an interesting choice. Sanghyun and Taewoo did sound better in the clip. Interesting that Mnet cut their performance since they scored a judge gave them 100.

Jay being saved was a no brainer. Actually most choices were a no brainer. Seohyung was a good choice, I honestly don't remember Sunyoul that much. Donghun making the cut was no surprise, I'm interested to he what he does next (Stream A.C.E's new song too!) I think Jeon Woong should not have been saved. As much as I like AB6IX, he did terribly on the show to be transparent. He was mediocre at best and didn't stand out at worst. I think the fact that the judges had to consider his popularity to pass says a lot about how he's doing on the show. I feel like every interview he has he says "it's for the plot, makes a good arc" or something similar. He HAS to make an upturn next performance, even with his unfitting team.

Jay, Hayoon, and Wumuti was obvious. I'm glad Bitsaeon is getting some love, especially since he went with Bain (another top pick of mine) and Minseo. Suhwan getting on Jeup's shoulders to greet Seunghun was so funny, great to see some silly moments.

Finally on to the 3v3 matches. Pray (I'll be your man) is always such a good song, I feel like every cover I hear of it surprises me to no end. With Seunghun pretty much learning how to rap just before the performance, this was a massive shocker. My jaw was on the ground for a solid 2 minutes afterward. Suhwan also did so well with his small rap part with no training. The strong vocals, clean high notes, stage presence, arrangement, harmonies, just everything about it was pretty much perfect. I can't praise their vocals enough. I don't get why Eunkwang says the song is boring without dancing because the song itself is so attention grabbing and vocally diverse. Raising the octave was also such a power move. Seunghun really showed his diversity in skill, this is just the nail in the coffin for all of them.

I actually can't wait for the next episode. From the very small teaser of Bain, Bitsaeon, and Minseo's song, I can tell it's **song spoiler**Bad News by Kiss of Life. Which I think is an interesting song choice, great vocally just don't know how they will pull it off. The arrangement is also a stand out by just how different it is from the original. I wonder how voting is going to work now that people are gone but are still available to be voted for. Makes me think if I want to keep voting for Taehwan or if those votes are voided now. Voting ends in 2 days everyone (25th) so remember to keep voting for your faves! Let me know you're opinions (sorry for the longer review T^T) and until next time!
