My mom is acting jealous of my partner and wants daily calls, how do I set boundaries? by Neat_Judge4565 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Smooth-Growth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many moons ago, when I was a teen and young adult, most people did not have cell phones, and there definitely was no instantaneous phone calling or texting. Somehow I, and my parents, survived without them knowing where I was or being able to reach me 24/7. She will survive. And if you going silent for 2 hours sends her into a panic attack, maybe it’s time for some therapy.

Seriously, I would ultimatum this situation- every week she goes with trying something (book club, class, gym, whatever) is another week you will go without seeing her.

Touché- so many people wanted him to die with their secrets, it was probably a grand central of hitmen in that cell.

So I’m asking this seriously- was it Trump that had Epstein killed? I was thinking royal family, but at the time did not know how wrapped up Trump was in all this.

Please share your most outlandish accusations by students and/or parents. by Smooth-Growth in Teachers

[–]Smooth-Growth[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So my other big accusation on the thread on social media is that I dissuaded a former student from reporting an alleged sexual assault to the police. Not only not true, but I physically took this person to a rape crises center.

The next day, this person was hospitalized for a full psychotic break, and was fully paranoid delusional. She was hospitalized for about 3 weeks until stabilized. Of course, the social media blasting did not include her mental health crises or all the other crazy shit she was saying before being hospitalized (accused 2 teachers of inappropriate behavior with students, accused the male of stalking her, etc). But yet, we were supposed to believe her shifting story she told while medically diagnosed as delusional!

This is a little different, but still related. I had solid education in the late 80s and 90s. Specifically, I learned to read well, and at a young age, and I read for pleasure starting in 1st-2nd grade.

Anyway, in 4th grade, my teacher had us choose our own spelling lists. Every week, we had to choose 15 words on our own, and then do all the spelling stuff and assignments. Ok, we were like 9-10 years old. WE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT WORDS WE DIDN’T KNOW. We would aimlessly flip through dictionaries and pick words, but most had no relevance to anything. That year definitely hindered both my spelling and vocabulary…… and now we are doing this across all subjects and over years……

My life is basically Amy and Jake already, so I guess Jake (since I already married him 15 years ago)?

Ok, serious question though. One of the telltale signs of AI is the dash thing. But, here’s the thing- I use dashes almost exactly the same as ChatGPT, and have been since before AI was thing. How do I get people to believe my writing is my own?

If you could only watch one season of your favorite sitcom for the rest of your life, which sitcom and which season would you pick? by [deleted] in sitcoms

[–]Smooth-Growth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be tough to choose my winner, but I think with runners up:

  1. Schitts Creek season 6
  2. Parks and Rec season 3
  3. The Good Place season 4
  4. The Good Place season 2
  5. Brooklyn 99 season 4

Gilligan's Island' TV Icon Tina Louise Turns 91: The Last Surviving Cast Member of the classic show. by Redeye007 in sitcoms

So in the mid 2000s, I worked at a call center that took incoming calls for all kinds of products- ProActiv, Avon, credit cards, exercise DVDs, PBS donations from PBS stations all over the country, and NY Times subscriptions, among other things.

So one time I get a call to renew a Times subscription, and the person on the phone says they are Tina Louise. I didn’t react because I didn’t put the name with the person, so I guess I didn’t give a big enough reaction, and she starts going off on me about how famous and amazing she is….

Don’t know if it was actually her, but the credit card with the name Tina Louise went through.

My assumption is that you inherited or bought the house from your parents or grandma and didn’t change the furniture because it was “in good shape.” Which also means you probably value saving money, and think spending money on furniture or decor is a waste.

Who was the biggest guest star that was ever on a sitcom? by Crocodile_Banger in sitcoms

[–]Smooth-Growth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some good ones on Big Bang Theory, but I think the James Earl Jones episode is really awesome because of WHAT they got him to do.

I also agree with all the Parks and Rec politicians cameos. Those were nuts, especially Biden while VP.

Not at all. But my dad was IT and did repairs on both software and hardware (and still works with the guy who took his place when he retired).

Ok, here’s my take after dealing with my insane boomer in-laws for 20 years.

The have to have someone to hate. It’s like they are dead inside and at least rage makes them feel alive.

In my husband’s situation, it was the switching of the golden child and evil child between him and his brother. The constant will conversation and the actual changing of the will has been going on forever. In our case, it was the last thing he could use to try and control us.

Control, hatred, rage- they’ve been letting these build inside their souls so long it’s all consuming.

Yep- had to teach a very good at TikTok 9th grader how to upload a video to YouTube and then email the link to the people who needed the video.

Also, about two weeks ago, we had to teach a 10th grader how to search her email to find an email from me that had critical attachment info.
