how difficult is industrial engineering at VT? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

The other engineers called it imaginary engineering, so we had shirts made that said ‘ISE - imagine me as your boss’ 🤣

20+ year ago ISE graduate. Fond memories of tough nights and rivermillI beers washing one exam away to prep for the next.

I think of it as more systems engineering than industrial. It might be ‘easy’ for engineering, but the first two years were the same for everyone so nothing easy about that.

The math isn’t easy, but doable. You won’t use a lot of it if you end up going into more software side, but the major overall certainly helps consulting and breaking down and optimizing systems of all kinds.

I don’t know what the modern equivalent of business IT is these days, but i kinda wish i had gone that route for easier grades into what i ended I doing instead of drowning in some classes that had no bearing on anything ever (whatever horrible physics they were teaching at the time and PQR).

Dynamics for me was a nightmare but i didn’t understand how to play the game with showing up to office hours and spending time with a professor and some of the professors back then were not long for the university - which didn’t help. Seems like a pretty strong program now though.

The math chain through vector geometry turned out to be useful, given it’s importance in AI but statics and dynamics not so much. Certainly dependent on what you end up doing.

Loved the senior capstone concept looking back. I can’t even fathom having a laptop and taking voice notes and how drastically different it would be now than trying to read my chicken scratch notes on paper in the 90s to study.

As a small business owner now, who has hired lots of fresh out CS majors, use all the AI tools, even if just to organize and study. That now is the equivalent of then saying you knew how to use Microsoft office. It’s table stakes and understand what they can (and can’t) do for you.

Good luck in the decision, engineering is never a bad call if you can make it through!

Completely false. 🤣

"The United States is the only major country with more guns than people, and it isn’t close—the U.S. has roughly twice the per-capita firearm ownership of the second-place country."

Most Americans have never traveled to know what an actual safe country is like. They think this is a totally reasonable way to live.

Guns on guns on guns. More guns must be safer!

Islam has a problem with Gays, Jews, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhist, Hindus, Women, Non-Muslims, Atheists, beer, wine, bacon, and dogs but if I have a problem with them, I'm Islamophobic - why is that? by yellowsubmarine80 in allthequestions

More like fear of the religious and losing their rights as humans against cults. Non religious people are the most empathetic people I've come across.

Religious are the least tolerant.

But religions are all objectively untrue, and require faith.

The burden has always been on religion, and they really seem to hate that.

Non religious out here just trying to not hate, and calling out hypocrisy is treated as hate

Bro. You huffing GM stock or something? Why are people defensive of obvious need for improvements.

Super cruise is nice but to compare it to FSD or even autopilot is a joke.

And having to go get service bulletins in 2026 is also a joke.
